Excellent vehicle. It may not be the sportiest of the bunch , but it most certainly is one of the most practical vehicles I have driven. Comfortable , fuel efficient , spacious, stylish, a clean interior and relatively affordable.

Great review! I am looking to buy a CRV very soon. It's the overall winner in family practicalities.

Full size spare is a winner. Bought one today Goes much better than the 2L 2014 to 18 model.

Hey Malcom, great review. from your experience with the car, do you think a fully loaded crv would be underpowered with a 1.5 turbo?

Zifei Li, Great question. Honda Australia assures us this issue is limited to climates below -20 degrees Celsius. Hope that gives you peace of mind, Mal Flynn

This is totally untrue and Honda has been lying the oil dilution issue the whole time. Please look up on the CRV forum and you will find that the oil dilution is everywhere for this 1.5t engine.

deviantone, Sorry to do that to you, but I reckon you'll be happier in the long run. I've just plugged my family into the Tucson this week and you've made the right choice. Enjoy, Mal Flynn

I heard Honda Crv got the engine problem with oil dilution, has anyone in Australia experienced this? I still cannot make up my mind between Crv or Mazda Cx5. Cheers.

this would have been better than my accord. its good to see that you fit in the rear seat with 2 car seats in the rear, my wife would fit perfect back there. only downsode is that you cant carry other people.

It seems common practice amongst car reviews to look only at the cosmetic elements of the car they are testing . And they conduct these in a video lasting usually only a few minutes. What I would like is an in depth look at the car including mechanical aspects, durability of components etc. Will Australian delivered CRVs suffer the oil dilution problems found in American and Chinese delivered CRVs. Is this likely to be a long term problem or are Honda fixing it? I buy a car for use over a longer term than 3 months. A proper review would consider the longer term buyer of all cars they test. Short term reviews are useless in this regard.

K Howe, Thanks for the feedback and I can understand where you're coming from. We try to delve as deep as possible within our typical launch or week-long tests, but the manufacturers generally won't allow access over longer periods. This three-month test is a step in the right direction, but we acknowledge its unlikely to reveal all warts. Thankfully any longer term issues will likely pop up on our CR-V problems page (link below). As for the 1.5 turbo oil dilution issue, Honda Australia assures us it's limited to climates below -20 degrees Celsius. Cheers, Mal Flynn www.carsguide.com.au/honda/cr-v/problems

Having followed the 2017/18 North American CRV Owners Facebook group for 6 months, the oil dilution problem does appear to manifest itself only in climates well below 0°C. Reports about the issue in China support this too. It simply doesn't get cold enough here.

Heres my unpaid review of a 2018 crv after 6 months of my wife owning the coke can! There cheap and nasty! The water based crap paint scratches very easily, bat crap eats the paint even with ceramic paint pro, drivers window screams at you when you power it down, the tailgate doesnt line up with the striker plate, the tailgate hinges are sloppy, doors never shut properly, loose gear selector, centre console armrest rattles along with all the other rattles, last week my wife rear ended another car travelling at 20km and the crv needed to be towed away, very unstable on the highway in windy conditions, can never get a comfortable position for the passenger seat, the engine oil always looks like its done a million miles and the dreadful cvt trannie and headlights! Big mistake buying a crv!
