I went to market comparing Karoq, CX-5, CRV and Tucson and settled on the CRV. As a taller guy (6'3") I found the drive position in the CRV the most satisfying. I didn't have to lower the seat all the way down and can really enjoy the high ride position. 5 seat model has fantastic legroom in second row. I can actually sit another 6ft passenger behind me without them being crippled! The drive and handling of this car is just beautiful though, and that was the clencher for me. And don't be put off by the noisy engine review. It is a bit noisy under acceleration when it is brand new, sort of like a light weight diesel (odd sound for petrol engine). But after the first service, whether Honda reprogrammed it or something, it's much much quieter. I do run it on 98 fuel too which might influence it. Motorway driving it's returning 5.7l/100km letting the cruise control do the work, which is a better score than the advertised consumption by more than a litre. City rush hour stop/start driving is averaging around 8.4/100km. Overall I'm loving this car, very happy with the choice.

This isn't your best review, you come off as a biased reviewer leading a person to suspect that you're paid by the competition. You're even criticising Honda for having an electric tailgate but I've never seen you criticise other top brands for having an electric tailgate. Then you had that guy with the glasses supposedly to prove that the people are pushed towards the sides with the head, but few seconds ago all three of you were sitting just fine at the back (5:10-11) You also put two child seats with you in the middle in order to trash Honda but I've never seen you put other cars through the same test. And why you keep referring to the competitors so much? A bit of consistency goes a long way towards credibility.

Mat always refers a lot to the competition. And not a person (in general), but you is suspecting he is being paid. I personally trust Mat's car reviews and never had the impression of him being paid by anybody. As far as I remember, he doesn't criticize for having an electric tailgate, just mentions it is not necessary. I think Mat is very right with arguing there are better alternatives in the price range out there (Skoda Kodiaq for example, probably Kia Sorento). Like it or not, but it is probably not a very good car in comparison. That being said, I personally really like the Civic - just mentioning that to show that I'm not being paid by the competition ;-)

However I do do think his review on this car is poor, rushed and picked the wrong variant. The hybrid is out, it had a few new concepts and technology for the market and Matt should have gone for that one, especially knowing that he likes to try new stuff. Missed opportunity.

Ok CRV fanboy. Let's go through your statements one by one. "This isn't your best review, you come off as a biased reviewer leading a person to suspect that you're paid by the competition." Biased toward what? If we're playing the making-statements-out-of-my-ass-without-providing-source(s) game, I might as well have this one for you: "you are a moron". "You're even criticising Honda for having an electric tailgate but I've never seen you criticise other top brands for having an electric tailgate. " This one actually turned out to support my vague statement made above about you. Matt did not criticise Honda for having an electric tailgate, he made fun about the fact that no one actually need that feature. Let me actually quote him: "2:53 - and the top of the range is the EX and it adds some things you don't really need, like a HUD, a panoramic glass roof and an automated tailgate". So basically, no criticism, only sarcasm. "Then you had that guy with the glasses supposedly to prove that the people are pushed towards the sides with the head, but few seconds ago all three of you were sitting just fine at the back (5:10-11) " From this one, I concluded my first statement about you, "CRV fanboy". Because to me, the two outer guys did look like they had their head pushed to the side by sitting 3 abreast. "And why you keep referring to the competitors so much? " As a car reviewer/motoring journalist, it is his job to provide people with as many available options as possible. Don't you moron actually compare similar things that you're planning to buy? "You also put two child seats with you in the middle in order to trash Honda but I've never seen you put other cars through the same test." kzread.info/dash/bejne/n2iD1LGcj9a-org.html "A bit of consistency goes a long way towards credibility. " Yeah.

However, for sheer build, including the hard plastics and flexible centre console, I bet this car will provide more than a decade of reliable, enjoyable ownership, which I doubt The Peugeot equivalent will ever do. Let's be honest, CRV s are not fashionable, never get outstanding reviews, the type of those that puts them on the map. Yet still people buy them in pallets (bad exaggeration joke inserted) , being one of the big sellers in the world, no need to figure out why. Yes, infotainment is rubbish (when did you ever seen a good one on a Honda) some plastics around the place, wobbly centre console etc. However 85 years and a million miles later down the line (another bad exaggeration joke inserted) this will still be around driving with little to no issues at all, compared to the almighty and pricier Germans which might have had a few issues by then.

Wanna buy it ? Cause i have 10 years of experience owning it. You can never go wrong with this car. I had the 2.4/2.5 petrol auto it was quick as hell. Also I did service regularly at Honda so during the 10 years there was absolutely no problems. Never had shown a code (after coming to UK in 2022 only i learned about codes in cars lol) .Handling was mwahh. I was in Oman so, the top spec didn't have leather seats or the sat nav, but rest were same. I did 269,000 km on it and had to sell it only because we were moving to the U.K. Also before selling it we went to Honda and had them check the car. They said it had no probs and the suspension felt like it was actually new (we didn't change anything). And now we bought a vauxhall insignia 09, but thinking back I miss the CR-V.

I have tested a 2019 CR-V hybrid SR against a 2019 Hybrid RAV4 Excel. I thought the 5 seat CR-V was superb, agree about the wood trim but Matt didn't mention you can specify metal trim instead in the UK or on an SR you can have a light colour (Beige) interior which suits the wood a lot better, I agree the ride really is very good, exceptional! but I also agree it was a fair bit noisier than I expected, a usual Honda shortcoming in my experience. The driver aids, adaptive cruise and lane keep were the best I have ever tried in ANY brand, very powerful, even at night due to brilliant LED headlights. The hybrid was also a lot quicker than on paper (I timed it at 0-60 at 7.9 seconds AWD model). There has been a lot of moaning about the infotainment in it, but to me it was fine, set it up once then it let me make phone calls and I could listen to the radio.. job done for me. I averaged 43mpg over a day of mixed driving. The RAV4 gives it a very good fight, exactly the same size and virtually the same price SR vs Excel AWD. The RAV4 was very close in comfort and possibly a bit quieter in normal use. The specs are almost identical too. The RAV felt a shade faster and more responsive (some have clocked it 0-60 well below 8 seconds). Both offer comfortable seats and lots of rear cabin space. I would say the RAV interior had the edge in quality. The driver technology, the adaptive cruise was effective but the lane Trace noticeably weaker than the Honda's. Again the RAV has a lot of criticism for its infotainment, especially for not having android/apple but again, it makes handsfree calls and lets you listen to the radio so its zero problem for me. On my test I averaged over 50mpg. In summary I would be very happy to own either, both superb cars but here is the crunch, as a company car the CR-V is 126g/km, the RAV4 103g/km emissions and no diesel extra 3% on top so a higher rate tax payer will pay £700 a year less tax in a RAV4. But here is the crunch, after 2 years the Toyota will be worth £3700 more than the Honda despite costing the same to buy. This has a MASSIVE effect on the lease cost, combined with the tax saving makes the RAV4 considerably cheaper to own as a company car. Which is why I have a RAV4 on order!

getting all this stuff for a 26k car is actually amazing, you're too spoiled by overpriced audis and bmws mat, not to mention you would give audis 100/100 even if they have fake vents and trimmings everywhere

You can get a Mazda cx-5 for that money even the premium model. I think pointing out all the crappy designs in this car is how reviews should be done.

nikolai moeller a Mazda CX-5 isn’t even half of this car, not only is it a smaller vehicle, but Mazda’s in GENERAL are terribly made cars, after 3-4 years they literally fall apart, they are cheaply made cars with one of the worst records when it comes to reliability. Honda is the opposite in this department, something that Carwow NEVER address.

@@Chris24_ That's my experience with Mazda as well. Including family. They usually end up falling apart after 5 years of ownership. Either the body starts rusting to shit. Or the engine starts going to shit or both of them at the same time go to shit.

Cannot believe this car does not at least get shortlisted. Why pick the 1.5 turbo? For very little extra you can have the hybrid in the same trim levels. Best bit, its not diesel, still has all wheel drive, far superior fuel economy, and is virtually silent to drive in all but extreme circumstances. The peugeot 5008, Kodiaq and Santa fe do not offer that. Pick the worse engine/gearbox combo in the range and trash it. Classy.

Honestly, I avoid the 7 seater version. The 5 seater has much more boot and more room. The infotainment is not the best.
