2020 Honda CR-V vs. 2019 Honda CR-V | Here's What's Different With Each Trim!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Honda refreshed the 2020 CR-V even though it's already a top selling crossover. Changes include a new front fascia, changes to the rear taillights and bumper, center console changes inside, and a change in powertrain for the base CRV LX. These two are the 2020 CRV Touring and 2019 CRV Touring. I try to cover the differences with the CRV EX and EX-L as well even though the most changes come with the LX and Touring.

I got to review the CR-V hybrid here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y6inybOLfcu7gto.html Did they do a good enough job refreshing the 2020 CR-V? Let me know below! I haven’t heard anything new about the oil dilution on the 1.5T if you want to fill me in! *Thanks for watching and have a great day!*👍

We had our 2018 CRV EX in for oil dilution, approx. 8- 12 oz. of fuel in the oil in less than 2000 miles. Dealer says Honda Tech Line stated they still working on a fix. This is our fifth new Honda since 2008, we love them, this 18 CRV is a great vehicle until the engine dies an early death. I would buy a 2020 in a heart beat if they had the old naturally aspirated engine still available.

@@xxlxpman We also don't know how the direct fuel injection is going to work out long term, plenty of manufactures are having intake valve issues with that too. It seems if I go with a Honda, the Passport for another $4k or so has a lot going for it long term. A proven larger capacity simpler engine set up, no direct injection, no CVT transmission and a towing capacity that would allow towing 1100 lbs or so without feeling you are pushing the limit specified. While the mpg on the CRV was attracting me, you can buy a lot of fuel for the cost of an engine, turbo, or a replacement CVT. If you lease your vehicle, or buy a new one every few years, they are likely not issues, but if you are looking for longevity and 150k miles these issues are all pertinent to your buying decision and probably grounds for a RAV4, which I'm currently having trouble warming to.

@@fiveowaf454 I'd hate to break it to you but the passport also has direct injection. And the injectors like the clogged up and it's not cheap to replace them. The upside is it does not have the oil fuel dilution problem

It looks identical with just a few very small changes that’s not even huge! Plus a little more affordable considering the global chip shortage amid pandemic 😷. Keep researching for a good deal around dealers. Buying new seems better because used seem pricier than a new car very weird.. but keep in mind markups on new vehicles 😬

the 2019 ex-l had HD Radio only if you got the Navi Option. By moving the USB Ports to the front makes it more convenient however, when you unplug your phone and leave the wires sticking out people can see them and possibly try to break into your car, where as the old version, you keep everything hidden inside the console already, without having to unplug phone and wires and then stick the wires back into the console hole. Heated steering wheel is a nice touch but not a big deal as you can warm up your car before hand with remote start. 3D parking is not needed if you know how to drive properly. If you use AA or Apple Carplay you're going to have to plug the phone (charging) anyway so wireless becomes almost useless. Good review, thanx

@@AlexandarHullRichter Many people who know how to 'drive properly' have anxieties about low speed parking situations for many reasons, often they have complex orientation issues or have an injured/weak back or neck. In those cases and even for drivers with no issues, a 3D system (birds eye view) is very helpful and may save lives of children in some cases. It seems to take pride in knowing how to 'drive properly' but so what? A technology that helps people not make mistakes, and saves lives potentially --- it's a great concept and feature to offer.

@@jgizzy i agree. It is a great feature to offer, and I won't offer criticism to people who need those features. The thing that bugs me is that since features like that have become common, car design has evolved to make them necessary. 30 years ago, any person who could turn in the driver's seat could see 90% or more of the space around the car. Now you can't back up without that camera, even in many sedans. Or top of that, it's a the newer features that break, so now with these two trends, we've gone from having a great feature to help less agile people, to crap I can't even back out of a parking space because the camera has a software issue and I can't see out of the back of the car without it.

For me the 1.5 engine is the weak link in the CRV package, I feel it's used to get the best on paper mpg, which doesn't always translate to real world driving. A 2.0 with less boost needed would appeal to me much more and so far the 2.0 seems to have less known issues. Also a bigger engine might give a better towing capacity (or is the CVT the limiting factor?) While I have a diesel pickup, I'd like to be able to pull my motorcycle trailer and smaller boat once in a while, but when I see a limit of 1500 lbs I start to feel even 1,000 lbs is closer to the limit than I care for, my truck can pull 17k pounds, but I'm rarely over 8000 lbs, I like a good margin for safety with hot weather and long steep inclines.

From Honda, " A degree of oil dilution is normal in vehicles with the 1.5-liter turbo engine, and in most cases there won't be drivability issues, or unusual engine wear, the automaker said.Jun 4, 2019" Am I the only one who finds that statement less than reassuring? "in most cases there won't be drivability issues or unusual engine wear" sounds like a recipe for a "they all do that" response from dealer when you do have issues and a worn out engine outside of warranty. With fuel injection, I see no reason for excess fuel going in to the cylinders, other than an engine design flaw, Why is fuel only condensing on the cylinder walls to excess in this engine? Certainly a concern and if oil washed of bores and diluted does cause wear, you are likely not going to find out until its too late for it to be fixed at Honda's expense.

I just bought a 2020 Honda CRV EX. I had been driving a 2021 Toyota Highlander LE. I previously owned a 2017 Honda CRV, although I feel like most people would think this is a step back, the touches Honda added for 2020 make it as good as my 2021 Highlander. At first I thought center console tray design was an excellent idea, however, it leaves far less space to put stuff. Additionally, Honda decided to remove 12V power points for USB, smart move for most. Not me. Everything that bugged me about my 2017 has been changed for the 2020. Honda made some really nice touches to the 2020. I do not regret mt decision.

Next, an Aero Package (RM5.700), which introduces a front aero bumper, running boards and a rear aero bumper. The Aero Package is also available for the 2.0L, but adds on an exhaust pipe finisher and RM200 to the price (RM5,900). @fiveowaf454

    4 жыл бұрын

@@rolandrhoward9361 Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder, but I beg to differ about whether the CX5 actually needs more space and utility. I applaud Mazda for building a car without trying to have the most passenger room and luggage space within a certain footprint for a sector and focusing on other factors like handling, driver enjoyment and style. The constant pressure to achieve maximum interior space, which often seems the be all, and end all, in so many vehicle reviews, is responsible for so many vehicles looking virtually identical, as there is only one shape that can reasonably achieve these goals. What is lost in this quest is style, individuality and often desirability. Not everyone needs the ultimate amount of interior space etc. as long as it's adequate. There has to room in the marketplace for more individual vehicles otherwise a Porshe 911, or a Mazda MX5, would all end up looking like and SUV/minivan hybrid to maximize all measurable data for the vehicle. Whether doing what Mazda has done with the CX5 is good business in terms of how many don't buy it for its accommodation, versus those who do for style and driver satisfaction is probably question even Mazda doesn't completely know the answer too. Just my opinion, but for someone currently struggling to get my check book out to buy a car due to their lack of appeal, I'm certainly open to more vehicles that combine some practicality with some flare.

I've been asking this question and haven't gotten an answer, with the CVT transmission can a driver downshift to a lower gear and take advantage of compression braking (or engine braking as some call it)? I currently use this feature while braking on icy roadways. Thanks.

  • @PrimeAutotainment

    @PrimeAutotainment

    4 жыл бұрын

Good question, some vehicles with a CVT will allow you to actually mimic downshifts to compression engine brake and raise RPMs...but the CRV doesn’t have paddle shifters or manual shifting capability. It does, however, have the “s” sport mode with the gear shifter which keeps RPMs higher and ultimately can slightly help engine brake at some speeds. It also has an “L” setting below that which I believe is technically “low” and should downshift quite a bit but I’m not sure what speeds you could actually use that. So do slower speeds I think L would work for what you want and S could slightly at higher speeds. Unfortunately it doesn’t have full shifting control like some though. Hope this helps.

  • @2flyabove

Going through brake pads will be a far cheaper way to slow down than wearing down a CVT. The CVT drivetrain is not durable. It'll be very expensive to repair. If you wish to use the engine's compression to brake, stick with a manual transmission.

The cases documented like most situations are the extremes, everyone else is covered by the "they all do that excuse" and as Honda claims it to be "normal" for the 1.5 engine that means there will have to be a threshold you cross in severity before it qualifies for repairs. If Honda says it's normal then they all do it to greater or lesser degrees by definition.

Given the oil dilution problems with the 1.5 turbo, Honda has eliminated the CR-V as a buying choice for me. I have a 2009 CR-V with the 2.4L and 172,000 miles that I’ll keep for now.

Did they narrow down the console where the shifter is? I didn't purchase a CRV specifically because of this, as it was uncomfortable for my right leg to lean on all the time.

I don't know what look Toyota was going for with the RAV4, but personally I cannot warm to it, the square wheel arches are part of it and then the rear somehow looks like it came from another vehicle. I realize that's totally subjective, but for me its an issue as I just cannot bring myself to buy one even though the proven engine with no turbo and no CVT trans, it should be the obvious buy. I've found the 8 and 9 sped autos I've experienced in various vehicles are wonderful, you barely can tell when it shifts and they also make the car feel more powerful as you always have the right gear and rpm in any situation. I haven't been able to drive a RAV4 far yet and not on open freeway with steep gradients etc. but I expect the 8 speed Auto makes it feel like it has enough power even though I hear many RAV4 owners bemoaning the loss of the V6 unit.

I bought the 2019 model and shopped specifically for the 2.4. I am getting 28 in mixed city driving and much higher on the highway.. The 1.5 has been an issue for Honda and I just don't trust that motor. I drove both and the 2.4 is much more pleasant, refined, and dependable. The LX in my opinion is a much better value. If Honda wants to offer a turbo they should do it in a diesel.

While many say the 1.5 motor only has a problem for a minority of buyers, that's not a risk I'd take, especially as Honda do not seem to be kindly disposed when it comes to helping those who do. It makes purchasing a lottery and then as I've found with all makes of cars, when something goes awry good luck arguing with your dealer and the manufacturer who always seem to want to fob everyone off with excuses and claiming things are normal. The 2.4 is a much safer bet, yes you could still have an issue, but its just far less likely as there is no history of problems and it also appears that from a warranty position you will be treated better with a fault that's out of the ordinary, as opposed to when a vehicle has an issue on a wider scale and the manufacturer is actively not admitting its a fault to avoid the expense of fixing all the vehicles having that issue.

@@fiveowaf454 exactly. So far I have put 14k on mine with no major issues except the service is very poor at my dealerships here in Florida. I have had one recall over a wiring harness on the column. When they gave it back to me the cover around the steering wheel column was off. Also had a full service oil change and they didn't bother to reset the oil minder. Service here in Florida is lacking or at least it seems that way. I've had issues at 2 different dealers getting the correct service.

@@aerodicus I feel the 1.5 turbo engine and CVT transmission were used in the CRV primarily for the European markets where high fuel prices put such an emphasis on fuel economy, for the US market surely a 2.0 motor with a lighter pressure turbo and torque much lower down would have been a superior option in every way. Even a small turbo added to the existing 2.4. If they'd use the 2.0 from the accord then they could lose the CVT transmission as well in favor of the 10 speed unit. I notice Hyundai went away from the 1.6 turbo in the Tuscon, so I wonder if manufacturers are getting wary of using turbo units, for the same reason some customers prefer to avoid them, namely longer term reliability concerns?
