Well built, and practical too, Honda's Civic has been credited with revolutionising Honda's image here in the UK. There are three- and five-door versions of the futuristically styled Honda Civic family hatchback, but both look very similar because the five-door has cleverly placed rear door handles 'hidden' in the window frames. Interior and boot space remains the same across the range. Honda reserves the three-door style for the sportier Type S and the high-performance Type R; the most economical 1.4-litre diesel versions are only available with five doors.
When Honda launched the current Civic family hatchback, its futuristic styling caused quite a stir. The three-door version is only available in sporty Type S trim or in Type R guise - the latter a hugely exciting high performance hatchback with a loud and powerful 2.0-litre petrol engine. Type S models have similar looks, but are available with more economical engines, including a 2.2-litre diesel.

FrightfulAccountant yeah, people keep asking me if its a brand new model, i told them, nope 2006 (mine is) and they look surprised because they thought it was from 2012 to 2014 xD , Honda did a very good job with this model :D

ah the Americans, they are so stuck in the 70s with their big 4 door sedans. Same story as when Ford tried to sell he Sierra Cosworth overthere in the 80s. Such a great drivers car, but the Americans called it cramped laught with the 4 cilinder engine. You can't just get much sense in them.

I drove this Civic model for about 10 years. I never paid anything but regular service, not once. Only the following were changed: light bulbs, oil, tires, filters. The first was a Civic 2008 1.4 VTEC, I drove it for a couple of years and replaced it with the same model, the same color, only 2011 and 1.8 VTEC .. The engine is the only thing missing from that 1.4 model .. I switched to SUV for practical reasons because I was tired of just looking at the holes in the road: D According to Honda, I have deep respect, especially for this 2005-2011 Civic model. I enjoyed driving that car so much, literally the only car you can buy for "little money" and have a real sports car. Acceleration in first / second gear with the sound of a 1.8 VTEC engine is invaluable. The most interesting thing for me was to "run in" from a side street on the main road in front of someone. (Within safe limits of course) I don't think anyone in front when I "flew in" even managed to squeeze the brake, I think it was more in their heads - Jbt this car has rocket propulsion. : D In the first gear, it goes up to 60, even 70 km / h, within a few seconds. Really priceless feeling. Stability is equal to a karting car, it never "betrayed" me in 10 years. Braking, ie. the braking path surprised and saved me a couple of times, it brakes like a cat, believe me. Just don't skimp on pimples. There are places inside for everyone, it's spacious, the trunk is huge, I don't believe that any car in that class has that. I'm telling you, the only "flaw" is a very very hard sports suspension, which is to be expected because this is a very very good sports car: D Rating 10/10, you won't go wrong.

Awsome car to own, still looks stunning, and still puts a grin on my face. I have the 2011 1.8 VXI Automatic and hardly any trouble with it. Only issue ever experienced was the faulty USB port on the radio that bombed out just after the warranty expired - i never bothered fixing it, I just use the AUX line directly into my ipod now. The review is correct in that it does have a firm ride and poor rear visibability, but those are easy to live with compared to what the rest of the package offers. Cargo space is huge, I manage to fit more cargo into this than my Jeep Cherokee I had before this. The automatic gearbox is perfectly matched with the 1.8l engine and is smooth and responsive. I highly recomend this car.

Have and love this car, has only 100,000 miles and runs like a dream! Super reliable and honestly so much fun to drive around. Considering its age it holds up very well against newer cars and is honestly verrrrry powerful, still more power than a lot of other newer cars on the road. Only down side is the tough suspension, other than that, i have to say this car is very very capable and soooo spacious! It has done 250 miles + per week (at least 12 hours on the road in traffic) in the last 18 months. MOT pass in January advisory of tires and brakes getting worn which is just normal wear and tear otherwise they said it was in very good shape. Nothing has gone wrong at all, which is exactly what I was hoping for in my first Japanese car. I got it with 12K on the clock, so will see over the next few years how it does with higher mileage, I think it will be ok. I think the 8th generation Civics are a safe bet if in fairly decent condition and of course they looking stunning (in my opinion). Hope this helps!

Several years ago, I owned a very well used 2000(W) Peugeot 406 HDI. Then one day an acquaintance gave me a lift in a Honda Civic like this. The difference was like day and night. The bumping and crashing from that Civic on the rural A roads of Somerset. The Peugeot just kind of acknowledged they were there, but not a problem. I rather concluded, that after all the years that have passed, the French are the people that know how to make cars that can both handle, and ride well. My current 2006 Yaris Mk2 is like that Civic. You fell every little bump, jarring up through the thing.

Not so much the cars fault as it is the councils that are in charge of the roads. I've heard of people buying SUVs just because of the speed bumps and potholes. I thought we were trying to reduce pollution?

@@peter7582 They likely are well aware that SUV's are big, fat, inefficient and unnecessary. The 'state of the roads' is most probably just the excuse for them to do what they want to do... follow fashion. As for the Civic..., almost every review that I've read about that generation of Civic is very positive, except when they describe the ride. It's not the roads, it's the car.
