HONDA CB500X review: Long Distance trip with Pillion and Luggage - EP1
Ойын-сауық
HONDA CB500X review: Long Distance motorcycle trip fully loaded with Pillion and Luggage.
In this CB500X review video I'm riding around 700km with fully loaded motorcycle and 2 up. Our plan this time is to test how Honda CB500X is behaving under such a load and see if motorcycle is capable of decently driving rider and a passenger on a long motorcycle trip with around 10kg of luggage.
I will share all my impressions and thoughts as we go along and in next episode I will give you my final opinion about how CB500X is handling 2 up.
Take a look at the CB500X 2up review and see how things are standing with 2 up on a 8-10h motorcycle trip.

Yeah, now I know that I want this bike. Thanks for review. It has enough power. I am 80Kg + 52Kg with my wife. Finally one new bike per life...and it seems it will be Honda 500X.
Beautiful day for a Ride and Beautiful scenery/ countryside! I have been considering the Honda cb500x as a touring bike to carry myself 100kg 187cm and my wife 55kg 155cm after watching your journey the Honda has moved a few places higher on the list !! Thanks and keep the shiny side up !! Stay safe !!!!
Thank you. What a beautiful ride. I never would have thought this bike would manage that much weight so well. Also, your English is excellent. Thank you again.
Nice video! I also have CB500X 2021 and ride in Berlin with a passenger as well. In 13:35 you've said that the bike sagged with the passenger and luggage. You've also mentioned that you've only increased tire pressure for this trip. In the manual, there's a table that shows the correct preload for the rear suspension. The default value is 2 and it is for riding alone. If you ride with a passenger and luggage it should be set to a maximum value, which is 5. Changing the preload of the suspension takes only a minute, although it may not be easy from the first try. This can be done using a special key that comes with the bike. The key is made of two parts. After you set the correct preload you will feel that the bike handles better with the added load and it won't sag. There won't be any bouncing in the corners. Also, this is better for your safety, because when the rear suspension sags, it changes the geometry of the bike in a way that the front tire gets less loaded, which can result in a higher chance of wobbling at higher speeds. P.S. thanks to your videos I got myself a higher Givi windshield which I will install today. Hopefully, it will help with the wind buffeting issue. Take care and ride safe! Cudos from Berlin.

That may also be the reason why you felt the front end of the bike "out of control" at 14:20.

Thanks, yeah that makes sense. I wanted to see how bike behaves on stock settings, but I'll have to try stiffening the suspension next time as it would make a difference. Cheers 👍👋

Great real review and well done to your son for going the distance with you. Long trip to sit pillion. I would be bored silly. Amazing scenery.
A really good real world review.
Great review thank you tim from uk brilliant review the best on here
Thank you for a fantastic review with your pillion passenger. You covered many things about the CB500X that I wanted to know. You have helped me decide to aim for the 2024 Honda NC500X (former 2023 CB500X). Best wishes 👍👍
Great review. Thank you. I noticed that you increased the tyre pressures from standard rather than increasing the suspension preload. That would likely make the front end feel lighter and more 'skittish' in bends.
Dad, I'm of Croatian heritage. My grandma is from there. I've wanted to make a trip to that Homeland of my heritage and see where my family comes from. Also, the motorcycle is one I'm thinking to purchase for myself to ride daily. The countryside is georgeous! It makes me want to come home so much!❤️👍🏍️. It, also, makes me "homesick" for there. Doug
In Thailand they ride with family of 5 + cargo on a 110cc scooter. So why would this one not be enough for pillion?
Never mind I was able get screen shot of it when you stopped!

Fare un viaggio con il figlio è un'avventura da ricordare. Bravi entrambi (Taking a trip with your son is an adventure to remember. Good both. I also have the CB500X, from 2016, I keep it in perfect shape .... it is a fantastic bike and well manageable in every respect. Good trip)
Only thing I can add to this is that the pillion might feel tired after a couple of hours of hanging on tight to the bike. A top case with pillion cushion will most likely make it more confortable and relaxed to ride pillion in, without the need to always actively grab onto the bike.
@shiftupadventure
2 жыл бұрын
I'd agree with that. Additional weight is the only reason why I avoid having a top case. But it surely would help if riding with pillion is common scenario. 👍
Really nice video! I'm thinking of buying this bike to travel with my son. I'm a bit heavier (99kg) and taller (190cm) than you, and my boy is 167 and 63kg (11 years old), so I was really nice to see you pack everything and take the honda for a ride and give us this review.

🆒 ass 🎥💨! I love this little 🏍️💨 glad u guys got to really use the bike
Thanks to you and your son for the video. I have a CB500x and my wife regularly rides pillion and finds the bike very comfortable. I increased the suspension preload F&R when I first got the bike and it improved the handling considerably and also resulted in much less fork dive during braking. I agree with you about the linear power delivery and it is a surprisingly good bike to do a long trip on, even loaded up. Those were great roads to be riding on together! Cheers from the UK.

In July 2019, I rode 500x 2237 miles in 7 days from Oregon to Texas. (First day only 120 miles) averaging 350 miles a day for the next six days. The longest mileage was 410 miles for one day. I ran over truck scales in Colorado, weighing exactly 700lbs (3 hard boxes and big dry bag on passenger seat). I was cruising mostly 70-75mph with relentless wind the whole trip and on the edge of couple rather big storms. I thought heat would be the problem but wind was hard, especially with tall screen. X can do it but, you really feel the wind, the road conditions and riding long time over 75 takes the toll on the machine. At the end of each day, I was completely flushed.

Yeah I agree, if I had to point out one single thing that Honda should improve on a CB500X that would be wind protection. Cheers 👍👋

@@shiftupadventure I didn't have issue with me being protected from wind. In the Summer heat, it is actually good to have some air flow. In East Oregon, wind picked me up at 75mph and moved me from cener line to the edge if shoulder. My stomach churned. The cure was to slow dow to 65. I had another similar but not as severe event. On 600lbs Super Tenere I was doing bursts to 85mph in much worse weather. One just needs to be aware of machine limits. And personal limits too.

Good information. In 2014 I bought a Suzuki GSX 1250 FA. Sight unseen because I used to ride Bandits. It is a beast and sometimes I think it is probably overkill for me. I could get by with a smaller (800cc or less Sport Tourer). Not that I am getting rid of it yet as it has miles to go but the next ST I get will be smaller.
Really good job on this video. Lots of good information. A big thumbs up. ;-)

Finally u told us what tyres u were on, kind of important, I'd defo change them for a GT tyre if u know ur sticking to smooth tarmac. Would have been handy to know the overall weight of your luggage, or you and your boy's weight becomes irrelevant. Was this later model with 19" wheel or pre-2019 with 17"? What range of km were you getting between fuel stops?

Like some have already mentioned, you NEED to set harder preload on the back with pillion, otherwise you get that out of control feeling and it can cause you to crash, as the bike is off balance. Other than that, 500 CC bike seems to perform better than I thought with luggage and pillion. I currently have a 900 CC bike, but have been thinking of going lower CC. Honda has done a good job, I will go for a test ride of the CB500X, when I'll be testing bikes.

@@ThePlatonius just sold off my Triumph Tiger 800 XCX and also the 1200 CC Speed Twin. Personal reasons and all that and both were beautiful machines but now am seriously considering the 2022 Honda CB500X. Ticks all the right boxes for me. MI need a daily commuting machine that doesn't heat up, is nimble and one that can be taken on the occasional long distance ride. Can't see the Mrs joining me anytime soon. Just waiting for the updated model to be launched in India.
I have read many comments / videos regarding vibrations at speed on the CB500X. I can't help but wonder if the vibes experienced by some might be related to the tires that are fitted and not the engine. I see quite a variety of tires and tread lug being used. I'm running AVON Trailriders which are primarily a street tire and my 2015 model seems very smooth for a small motorcycle.

if you are going to use the bike for touring as i do, on the road, you will find that the dunlop trailmax are not up to the job, i found them awfull for road work but then, i only ride road bikes. i bought a 2018 model last year with only 2k miles on it and found the stock tyres to be a let down, once i changed them for road tyres, in my case, maxxis 6029's the handling improved and it was like riding one of my road bikes, you may get better miles per litre as well, ? nice video ride safe.
