HONDA BIG RED BUYER'S GUIDE - What to look for when you're buying an ATC200E, ATC200ES, or ATC250ES
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
So you want to buy a Big Red... ok, well, what kind? How nice? What exactly are you after??
In this video we talk about all the variations, 1982 to 1988, plus the odd ball 84 200E and the 85 200ES. This is mainly a "things to consider" video more than a true buyer's guide I suppose. Prices will fluctuate year to year, so I don't mention those, but I do mention rarity with regard to various model years.
I'm sure I forgot some things, so feel free to comment with what you see that I missed!

It is great to see how well you take care of these bikes. I loved mine and I hope to get back into collecting at some point. I believe that a yours are the best I have seen in a very long time. I absolutely think it is because of the love that you have for the bikes as well as the sport. Thank you so much for sharing with us.

I thank you so much for watching my video man! Glad you liked it and thank you for the kind words sir! Have you see other videos of mine?
Thank you for the over view of all the Big Reds, it has helped me figure out what parts and pieces that I have while restoring an 87 250es Big Red. I just got a replacement front end for this 250es that I'm working on and noticed that your 86 250 Big Reds are the only year that Honda put the helmet holder sticker on the left side of the bike, and my replacement front end has that sticker on the left fork. I guess I have an 86 front end. Also I was lucky to find an original Carburetor QA07 which supposed to be for 86-87 250 Big Reds. My bike came with two china Carbs, and I didn't like that I couldn't use the original throttle, and choke cables, and wasn't comfortable with wondering if they would run to lean, especially after doing a complete overhaul replacing the rod and piston. Keep the great videos coming👍
Loved this video and all the ones you crank out! FANTASTIC info right here. The ‘86 250ES Big Red is the very first ATC I ever rode at the age of 6. It is the reason I love Honda ATVs to this day. I told Binky if he ever decides to sell one… to let me know! :D I live close to his place so if you’re ever back at his museum visiting, I’ll be sure to say hello!

Going back and watching this for the 3rd time! I have a suggestion for a future video. DO a video highlighting all your hondaline acc's!
Preston, in one of your videos you said there was a better vendor than others for reproduction seat covers. I have a near mint 1987 atc250es. It's current seat cover is perfect and aligned perfectly and is the correct color but it is missing the Honda screen print. It doesn't need one but it is the only thing missing that would make it perfect.
Great informative video! Don’t forget you can also install a Hondaline Trip Meter!
Cool video! So much good info. Always wanted a Big Red....

@This Old Trike you can't talk about big reds without comparing the two generations. New viewers might get confused, and new buyers. I thought it was good 👍
I have an '85 Big Red , not museum quality but still very nice . I suggest checking the downtube for cracking and also the backbone under the gas tank for cracks .
Love the big red’s. Can’t wait to see the 88 get some love. Did I miss the link for the guy making the exhaust and heel guards?

Thanks brother! You and me both! I told my powder coater yesterday, when I was picking up my 84 200E frame, that the next frame for him is the 88 Big Red. He said he's ready when I am. Regarding the guy making the exhausts, I put a screen shot of his store in the video but forgot to put it in the description. I'll do that now. I didn't see any of the heel guards posted on his site though.

The 85 200es is super cool
I was given a 1985 Big Red from my father in law (We gave them a New Buick for Christmas the year before as their car was shot). i guess he just felt I should have it as it sat in my Garage anyway. I never had the key to start it, so it just got pushed around from one spot to the other. Once he gave it to me(speedo said 97 miles on it and he did have that installed from the Honda dealer and many other items AKA feet protector, rifle scabbard, speedo meter. probably more then I can think of). As of now it has less then 200 mile on it. I did not know that they were cold blooded for this year, any way I can fix that? I get tired of killing the battery all the time to get it running after it sits to long. Like the bike. Just starting to use it more now as we bought some land to hunt work on. The wife likes the stable 4 wheeler LOL. Back to the bike the tires are dry rotting from just sitting all the time, no real ply on them so have to get newer ones at some time. Thank for showing all the Big Reds I never knew that there was that many models of the Honda. My father in law used it a couple of deer seasons. Learned a lot from him through the years he was around. Have a good one.

The 85's were known to be cold starters... they fixed that in 86 with some carburetor modifications. I'd reach out to my buddy Curtie @223cycles2 or www.223cycles.net/ and he can help you out with that. Terrific guy and three wheeler enthusiast. And within the next few months, there will be reproduction OEM tires available for Big Reds if you want that original look. D&A Restorations / Serwa Tires are coming out with them.

Were there any road legal three wheelers? Guess not in the USA but do you know if they had them in other countries?
@ThisOldTrike
Жыл бұрын
That would depend on the laws in the places they're used. Some towns allow for on road ATV use. Some states allow you to register them for on road use if you get the proper safety features (turn signals and break lights...) There weren't any that were just road legal "out of the box" so to speak...

@@ThisOldTrike the people need an AMSR video of a good sounding engine versus a bad sounding engine. Probably at idle, and under load.
