Derrick I just wanna say thank you! This is the only youtube channel I watch consistently with videos that average over an hour long, what you do reminds me so much of watching horsepower TV on spike every Saturday morning with my dad, thank you for all that you post and keeping hotrod alive!

I used to watch those same shows on spike as a teenager. My uncle's introduced me to the gearhead lifestyle as a young man and they were what I looked forward to every week. Most of my family was a GM only household but one uncle in particular was a mustang guy who pretty much set in motion the rest of my car obsession. As a teenager in the late 90's the 5 liter mustang was the top dog in my area. I never understood it until a friend of mine had an 85 GT that waxed all the local guys on the street. Track numbers didn't matter, it's what you could do at a stop light that set you apart.

Little tip I learned when installing patch panels is to overlay the new panel over the old and cut them both at once. This gives you a nice clean line and makes it easy to tack in place. Learned that from one of the guys on power block a few decades ago 😅

Sometimes you get too much of a gap when you do that. If you keep trimming little by little you get the desired gap you want for a good weld

Hey Derek I painted my 1950 Ford shoebox with a 50 dollar gallon of John Deere Blitz Black flat paint and my cheap Hobo Freight spray gun, came out great, well, pretty good. Made me feel better to see you do the same. Great channel, great family, great American, 79 year old hot rodder still learning, appreciate what you do...

My dad passed in 2018 but he was like you in so many ways about vehicles! All the questions I had for him, I find answers to in your videos! Single mom at 24 with 2 kids I want to teach about this one day when they’re older! Learning as much as I can but also, they might up and surprise me and start teaching me themselves lol Love what you do! Thank you for bringing us along ❤

I'm a real perfectionist both on and off the job, and it's always helpful and instructive to see a great example of getting 80% there with 20% of the labor. Sometimes that's really the difference between getting something decent done and getting nothing done at all.

Sorry to hear about your grandma but so glad you had all the time you had to spend with her and now this truck will be a daily reminder of all the great times you have had with them.

Just about the right amount of lipstick on the ol' girl. Nice enough to look at, rough enough to work. I love the tribute to your grandparents too, and Browder's work is triple-A plus plus.

$120 paint job on that white truck for your brother was what first brought me to this channel. This kind of thing is right up my alley.

I don't know how this is for people not in the field but as trained metal worker and industrial mechanic that completely switched fields it is cathartic to watch someones process that clearly has years of experience and a feel for what they are doing. There are loads of people that do good metal work but the ones that have a connection to the metal that goes beyond just numbers and measurements, that can feel what is right and what isn't are on another level and a joy to watch and work with. That body work segment scratched an itch that I didn't even realize I had. Thanks Derek!

Loved the video as always. My only minor request is that I’d like to see you protect your eyes and lungs a little bit better. Safety glasses or that Peterbuilt windshield visor and maybe a 3m half face P100 mask when painting or sanding. Once that crap gets in your lungs it doesn’t come back out. I know you love your family above all else like a man should, I’d like to see you stick around for them for as long as possible!! I’m not talking hazmat suit and gloves and hearing protection and hard hat, just safety glasses and a small respirator type mask like I use for airbrushing. Otherwise, Keep up the great work brother!!

I’ve made a “paint booth” out of pvc pipe and drop cloth plastic. Couple filters in one end and exhaust fans (Walmart box fans) in the other with shop lights inside the booth. Works great! You can disassemble it for storage when done.

I had done a similar setup about 30+ years ago only I used an old house furnace blower that I salvaged from the dump. Worked great.

I’m 57 years old ! Class of 84 I’ve owned my share of square body Chevys through the years… yours looks awesome!!!! I love the turbo Fan wheels!!!

In the early ‘70s , the auto painting franchise,Earl Shiebs , would paint any car for $19.95 . The color selection was limited and just enamel, but if you did your own trim removal and masking job, the results were actually pretty good.

This truck restoration was amazing. We love the paint on the doors to commemorate Dereks grandparents its beautiful! Remington will run for many moons and do its job around the Lodge. Derek better watch out Jessica may snatch this baby up for getting her groceries! Always good to see Bentley helping his dad on these vehicles. Good video, nice wheels, now to replace that seat and do the inside cab?!

I stopped working on my vehicles almost 40 years ago, but enjoy the heck outta watching you do what you do, Derek. Oh man I laughed when you said you were going to paint the rear bumper red. My grandpa would paint the rear bumpers neon orange when the tail lights quit working on the farm trucks. lol

I have a 1986 M1008, which is the military version of the Chevy K30. I sprayed it with Behr Flat Exterior House Paint from home depot. Mixed to my color code specs. Which for a military paint look/feel, worked perfectly. 12 years later, and there are a rust few spots, few chips, little fading in places. But heck, it has lasted for 12 years. That's pretty good for house paint driving at 55mph down the road, and sitting outside in the driveway. I will repaint it at some point, would like to do it this summer. But have so much other work to do, I doubt I get to it.

Derrick , Great Job on the upgrade and restoration of the old Chevy Farm Truck . You've definitely breathed new life into it. Honoring your grandparents with the Bieri Farms Artwork is fantastic . I really admire the mechanical ability that Bentley has and your working along with him as young lad which has really developed his talent and confidence. All of my grandparents are gone. (Papa Ogle & Daggie….and Nanny and Papa Boone) I was a very, very lucky man. I had all 4 of them til I was 33 years old. Most people don’t even get to meet 4!

LOL, you saved me 60 dollars. I was considering this paint for my 83 Wagoneer. Man, I would’ve painted the wheels with the same color paint as the rear bumper.

Watching old school pinstripers and sign painters is simply amazing. Another great build!

Great insight on cabin corner repairs and both rear fender bottom metal repairs behind the rear tires. First time where I have practical approach to setup, bending,trimming, and finalization. Great approach to repairs.

Thanks Derek for showing us a practical respray of a work truck. I think a lot of projects stall at bodywork chasing perfection. Newsflash its a worktruck and was never straight even off the factory floor.

looove that you're getting into some concrete bodywork with a build. always hoped you would do that more. it means that there's some real roadworthy-ness on the horizon for a lot of your rescues. would be nice to see the big old LeSabre brought back and being done - if you still have it. Love that car

There are many words to describe you, but LAZY is definitely NOT one of them. Love all the work you put in for all of us Fellas and Fellettes just to entertain us.

Get some aluminum duct tape - It works great for making reflectors in tail lights and turn signals reflective again. I've fixed up a bunch of lights like this. The tape isn't cheap - but a little goes a long way! It would likely make your tail lights twice as bright. For colorblind guys like me, this is a big help. I can't see red lights very well.

A guy is about to tractor paint backyard rebuild a $600 98 mustang now. Just the video I needed for that little push to doing it 😂

This video is JUST what I needed. I have the same rust holes behind the rear tires on my square body. I bought the same replacement metal. I have been wondering what the best way to tackle the project would be, and for me, this is SPOT ON. Thanks! Just for that, I'll be buying another sweatshirt and or shirt once I'm done watching. Edit: BOOM, just got myself and my son new hoodies 😁👍

What year is your square body? I just love these older trucks.

Just did a similar level of paint job with a friend's son. He brought himself his first hotrod pickup and wanted to shine'r up a little bit.let him do most of the dirty work sanding and prepping. Done up in the dusty old shop. Turned out decent enough with some single stage paint that a guy can stand back 20' and squint one eye and feel pretty good about himself. The young feller was so thrilled and proud of himself for the work he put into his pride and joy. After a couple months of nights and weekends, ended up having a great time working with him. I think he learned a lot and I ended enjoy a project again just for the sake of doing a project. Can't wait to see him cruising around town this summer!

The hardener makes ALL the difference with the Tractor Supply paint. I painted my framerails on my 89 Mazda pick with a brush and the hardener made it smoother and stronger.

Great job! I’ve used the same paint on a few different trucks. The hardener is worth the extra$. it seems to lay down a little better, and gets harder quicker, and. Awesome video as always.

Beautiful truck! The style, paint color, wheels, and signage, all top notch.

The best 2 hour and 22 minute video I’ve watched. In fact, the ONLY one I’ve watched. But had to watch the whole thing. Great truck and should be a real work-horse on the property for you and the boys. IMO you need a proper pipe rack on her. Overall you’ll be glad you did.

Sending love from my family to yours, thank you for everything you do for your fans, and I'm sorry for your loss but glad you were able to express your love for your grandparents with that beautiful painting.
