No need to disconnect the battery, removing and re-inserting the 10 amp fuse in the bottom row (no 21 I think) also resets the mechanism. It worked for me the first time it happened. The second time, a few months later, resetting wouldn’t work. I stripped the whole trim, all the electric tape, went through all the wires cm by cm. found a broken wire in the bunch right near the left hinge. Put the effin thing together using a piece of wire from an old plug, and it works! According to many people on all different fora, this fault - and other simple things like dirty connection - would give you the CPU error if plugged into the diagnostic, and most workshops - including Honda dealers - would charge you well over £500 to replace the unit. The job cost me nothing, took just over 2 hours, and all I know about car electrics, is that if a wire is broken, than it probably won’t conduct electricity. Good luck peeps!

mine was an issue with battery drain also but solved that after main dealer couldn't..(I am ex REME)..was o/c offside rear boot light, having 6 volts and completely draining main battery, this then triggered the alarm horn etc, so once i had found the open circuit, the boot was next. All connections and wring was ok, possibly, because it had been stood at dealership for 2 months (long story, father in laws car, he passed away suddenly, heart attack) so car was forgotten about. Mother in law gave it to me..but, few months after it needed new clutch and dmf, so i just paid garage to replace it as its a strong car..currently off the road now for winter (wifes car has full snow tyres). Anyway, hope this helps, another issue could be, condensation in the roof space where the boot ecu is located, strip headline off or prop it down, then let air circulate (summer warm air!)_ spray the connections with acf 50 NOT wd40..) or electrical contact spray..leave it for say an hour, wipe dry and pray..mine worked..all buttons work, remote and near steering wheel...jobs a good un..(I used to work on big stuff in the military btw..) ;)

Hi Chasinsunsets, I have a similar problem, my boot will open electrically, but gets to the top, gives one beep, and immediately closes again. I too had a battery drain causing the alarm to go off and once, the car was dead and would not start. Now I keep it trickle charged all the time when not in use, but I wish I could get the boot to stay open. I will try checking the voltage to the rear interior boot lights, so thanks for the idea to try this. i am also ex-RN engineer :-)

Even honda dont know how to fix this.

I unplugged the ecu, and checked all sensor plugs (the green plugs, 2 per side), i did have a ptg fault but boot is now working, i also sprayed all cntacts and multiplugs with acf 50 (NOT WD40)! , now i have an issue with open tailgate warning light, it does lock however and operate on all three buttons, key fob, driver button and tailgate button so definitley not a ptg fault. I shall continue tomorrow as its dark now in the UK.

You hear same stories on the CRX transtop roof/boot, lots of people say they unreliable, dealerships cant fix them, yet it just has one ecu and 4 motors, when first trying to diagnose fault with error code on ecu it leads you down wrong path, its good they have error codes but dont always help you, specially when it has a broken off wire and not failure. Many dealerships never see them to work on either. Thought it was a great feature on these cool looking accords, 1st estate cars i remember seeing with auto tailgate, wish i could fit one on my HRV

@@joseph9107 It sounds like a bad connection in one of the plugs somewhere. But DON'T use WD40 to spray the contacts in the plugs. Use electrical contact spray.

family spent over 1100 pounds on mine, 2008 (57 plate) 2.2 diesel tourer, ( inherited it from late father in law), been to Honda today and am booking it in for a code read just to see what the code says, as the tailgate mechanism and all sensors were changed in March 2018. I've disconnected the battery, waited 30 mins, reconnected battery, works once then either wont re open or wont lock closed. its hut and latched for the time being, Honda want roughly 900 pounds as the foreman in workshop said its the control unit in the headlining, common problem..for now ill send the kids in to unlock it when shopping!
