HOLD ON TO GOD'S WORDS

The story is told about a farmer who was worried about his cow who would not feed on the grass that had turned dry and brown because of the heat and the drought. What did he do? He put green sunglasses on the cow, and just like that, the cow ate the brown grass again!

In today’s Gospel (John 15:9-17), the Lord gave His disciples precious words from His heart to their hearts, to remind them of His commandment to love and to give them strength when they face difficulties and trials. He gave them the “green sunglasses” so that they would be able to see everything with faith, hope, and love. Let the Lord remind us today of His words that can make us survive any drought in our lives.

“I LOVE YOU.” This is the cornerstone; this is the pillar on which our faith is built. We are loved by God! “As the Father loves me, so I love you” (John 15:9). Different religions speak of God as Supreme intelligence, Supreme power, Supreme bliss, but only Christianity speaks of God as a Father, a loving Father with a heart.

“REMAIN IN MY LOVE.” Stay in God’s love. Stay good, and stay beautiful! “If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in His love” (John 15:10). Let us hold on to God’s love, keep going to the Light, and keep doing what is right.

“BE JOYFUL.” It is not a perfect world, and people around us can be mean and uncaring, but we can be joyful through it all if we have the Lord, our strength! The joy of the Lord is a joy that the world cannot give or take away, a joy so secure that you can speak your truth quietly and clearly. “I have told you this so that your joy might be complete” (John 15:11).

“LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I LOVE YOU.” The Lord loves us as His friends, not as His slaves. And He loves us until death. “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13). And the Lord has confided to and revealed to us everything because He considers us as His friends! “I have called you friends because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father” (John 15:15).

“I CHOSE YOU.” We have been chosen to follow and to serve. We are chosen, not so much because of us, but in spite of us. He chose us to be close to Him, and to serve His people, not so much as a somebody, but as a someone. Chosen, with His heart, we, too, must serve, with His heart. “It was not you who chose me but I who chose you” (John 15:16).

“AND BEAR FRUIT.” We have a mission for the Lord. May we live not just successful lives, but meaningful lives filled with God, sharing, and love. All our so-called “worldly achievements” are empty and vain and add up to nothing if the Lord is not in our hearts. We are missionaries, not just mercenaries, and we are disciples with a Master.

“ASK THE FATHER ANYTHING IN MY NAME.” Let us not forget to call on God, ask for His help and guidance. Let us not do it alone, relying on our own wisdom, strength, and connections. “Trust the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5). More and more I know, I realize that without God, I am nothing, and with God, I can do more, than I can hope or imagine. Just ask. Ask like a child. Ask in Jesus name!

Lord our God, we are not worthy of all the mercy and faithfulness you show to us. We thank you for your love and ask you to keep our hearts united in the hope we have together for all things. Keep our hearts united, that again and again we can receive something new from your mighty hand. Keep us true to the calling you have given us. Let light shine out into the world, right into the dark places. Remember those all over the world who are sighing to you, longing that in your great and wonderful goodness light may come to the peoples and to the nations through some deed from your hand. Amen.

This 6th SUNDAY of Easter, we rejoice in God's grace. Thank you for your homily, prayers, and blessings, Rev. Fr. Jerry Orbos. I thank you for my healing from my accidental fall last Jan.24; continuously praying to the Lord, for You to take away the pain on my left shoulder and upper arm, especially at night. For my husband, Bonifacio Jr., LORD, do bless him with good health, productive preoccupations, and many earning opportunities for our family: help us in his management and sale of our other Abra properties, specifically the Karayan Corn Field, and grant to us his completion of the sale of our neighbor's property. We ask the Lord's guidance in his planned endoscopy and colonoscopy, heal all his current health afflictions, including his enlarged prostate; keep him safe in his birthday vacation in Hanoi, Vietnam this May 7-11. Raising my children's health and work to Your grace and mercy. Protect them and grant them immunity. Give them a safe and healthy atmosphere and success in their endeavors. Praying for their on-going individual projects to do well esp.Ivan's. Grant him (if it is Your will) an opportunity for a career change and advancement, dear God... Make the children manage their finances well and allow them to contribute to our household expenses. Lord, we lift up to Your healing hands ALL their sicknesses and afflictions. In particular, dear God, send Your Holy Spirit to touch and guide Ivan to the correct MD's management and healing of his psoriasis and high blood, let him slim down; ... also, Thank you for Juancho, Ilsa's special someone; ...Praying fervently that Ilsa and soon, Ivan would have finally found their God's best, their life partners. Lord, praying for a healthy, COVID free, and trustworthy househelper. Thank you for our trusted stay-out helper, Carla. May she continue to be understanding, patient, honest, and continue to be industrious and help us organize our household. We continue to pray ... ...for each and every member of my family 👨👩👧 we ask for more listening, understanding, patience and respect for each other; for better communication, for a more united front; HEAL us of all our sicknesses, keep us all healthy and safe; dear Lord; help us in our financial sustenance, provide for each and all of us sources of income 🙏🏡⛅ ... my community 🏡🏠🏘, our country 🇵🇭 for political righteousness; Lord, continue to protect us from the pandemic of COVID-19 and it's variants; we lift our country to Your guidance of our nation's leadership, touch their hearts and souls to lead our country in the path of righteousness, free of corruption and personal greed; with genuine concern to all Filipinos and to our country, the Philippines 🇵🇭 , please STOP the Cha-Cha shenanigans; have mercy on us all; ... and the world's peace with the Israel-Palestine war, and in Ukraine 🌏 ; and also in various countries devastated with natural calamities, including the Philippines with threatening volcanic eruptions, current typhoons and peaceful settlement on the current West Philippines Sea conflict; keep everyone safe with Your God's grace, mercy, and Divine protection.
