Thank you for this video. Im a mother to 7. 11, 9, 8, 7, 6, 3 and 5 months old. I always enjoy seeing/hearing the details of a big family's daily routines. Good ideas to glean from. Your attitude and honesty is so refreshing. Im encouraged anew that its not all about t the academics, there is SO much more that is being taught. So refreshing! And to know it can get easier as they get older and become more independent. So far its been a bit of a marathon for me with all of them so close together. But i know it WILL be so worth it. Thanks for the reminder.

Great glimpse into your day! I feel like we're struggling every single day.... My high schooler is doing fine but it's more me with my five, three and one year old. The house is constantly a mess, I never know what to make for lunch, I feel overwhelmed with school for the five and three year old, doing memoria press for the five and my father's world for the three. The one year old is still up nursing and constantly wants to be held.

Can I just encourage you that what you are doing can be right and good while at the same time incredibly hard? I can think of many days, especially when my kids were all young, that looked very much like you describe above. Homeschooling is not easy, but having homeschooled a child all the way through to graduation, I can see days like these with a different perspective. I have been able to see the rewards (kids becoming independent, good readers and writers, showing character, having interests of their own, succeeding in real world problems) of the hard days. You are probably doing much better than you give yourself credit for...and honestly, sometimes homeschooling does look a little messy. In. my experience, it gets so much easier as your kids get older. Also, not sure how much you are doing with your three year old, but other than reading to them, I don't do any formal lessons with kids that age. If you trying to do too much, that could lead to overwhelm sometimes. Please be encouraged to know that you are doing work that is incredibly influential and I challenge you to keep your head held high and stay the course!

Great video. It's so good to see it start to finish. Can you do a video or comment on how you deal with the sibling fights and when they don't want to sit down. Do you have any children who are less enthusiastic or maybe rebellious in some cases?

Thank you! Yes, we absolutely have all those struggles you mentioned! It's not easy or smooth with some of the normal challenges that come with kids (and parenting in general!) That's one reason I though it was important to say that there are things happening throughout the day that aren't necessarily in the video, but are a part of it. I will definitely put that on my list of future videos to do! For a short answer, I would say that for the most part I really do try to stop our school work to address the issues. Ignoring them doesn't make them go away, in my experience. Although in the short term, it really interrupts your day to address it, it pays off more in the long run bc you are able to make more progress. I always tell my kids that I'm more interested in their character than in the school work we are trying to get done for the day. So, yes, sometimes that means half the school day is side tracked dealing with issues, but again, their character and the atmosphere in our home is a priority to me.

Do the kids do all there own lessons through reading and written narration

I'm not sure I completely understand your question. They do some of their lessons through reading and narration, but they also do other things as well. Some of the work they do independently and some they do with me.

Can I ask what are the kids writing / drawing while you read? Does it have to be related?

They are probably drawing. I let them draw anything they want while I read. It doesn't have to be related. I don't like them to write, however, because I think it would be hard to write and focus on what I'm reading at the same time.
