I've got 3 girls and 1 boy. This video is so timely for me. Trying to get my 5 year old boy to focus like my girls do for their school and I was literally wondering today if he's just lazy. Now I realize, I haven't given him enough breaks to run and be wild. So far I can only motivate hin with chocolate. 😂 Starting tomorrow we will take more breaks to jump around. Thanks for tips!

Some other things I've learned homeschooling boys, they also thrive on verbal affirmation and being built up in their male ness. At least mine are very affected by my words. If I say 'wow buddy, you are so strong' they want to showcase that strength and we can then encouragingly direct them on how to use that strength, and they want to try it. And when we see it in action, notice and say oh yeah, good job being a gentlemen... They feel so seen and manly. It carries over with school stuff too. Looking for ways to build them up.

Hello! I have been loving your videos! I have five boys ranging from 19 to 3. We also have 3 girls and a baby on the way. During the winter months, when we can't get outside as much, we have made sure the garage was cleaned up for them to do physical activity in. Rip sticks, dart board, stilts, unicycle, and many other fun activities have been a welcome energy expender. Another thing that has been helpful with our boys is playing Legos or doing models while listening to audio books. This has been a wonderful way to get hours of books into their lives.

Boys are physical….when my daughter was in public school, the teacher said she would have the two “rowdy” boys with her in her group during a field trip. It was apparent they had a hard time listening throughout class. The teacher then commented how well behaved both boys were during the field trip. It was a no brainer! they were extremely smart, but needed to move around, they were the most interested during the field trip cause they got to see and touch. I never forgot that.

This video came at the right time for me! Yay the KZread algorithm did something right 😅 I am homeschooling my two older boys (I have four kids). At about the 5 min mark you started to say how you could see the difference with boys/girls when your daughter was about a year old. And with my daughter being my third baby, I totally related to that! She is just so different compared to my three boys. Everything you said about young boys could describe my oldest daughter! Very physical, needing a challenge especially a physical one, sending them (my two girls) to run or doing jumping jacks while learning math facts, easily distracted just a lot of energy. More the temperament of their dad so I ask him for suggestions. My son is only 4 but he loves to cuddle and chat (my oldest also talks plenty). In our family one of the differences is that my son seems to be more interested in pleasing mom than the girls are. They are all three plenty competitive lol. Oh but one thing I relate to my son definitely breaks more things. Our oldest was destructive too as a preschooler but the boy seems to really love smashing things. Like build with duplo and then smash it 😂

I need to encourage my husband to integrate my son into more of his "manly" endeavors. Thank you for sharing this! homeschooling two boys 12 and 9. We recently joined Boy Scouts and there is a parkour gym not far from us. We have many flexible seating choices, because sometimes sitting in a chair or at a desk just isn't working. Our current struggle is having them wake up at a decent time to start school work.

I have 3 boys ages 12, 8 and 6. Yes, they are SO different from me and it takes awhile to see all the differences. And yes, my boys love getting good grades and they have also done shuttle runs to get their energy out. 😂I really appreciated your thoughts on the importance of sons being with their father especially as they get older. My 12 year old does his school work in his Dad’s office and can learn a lot about my husbands’s work while he’s there with him. 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Great video! Thank you!

I really appreciate this. 💙 I only have one boy, my third child. He is so different from my two older girls. It can be frustrating because I’m used to my girls, they are excited to sit down and read with me. My son who is 5 now, doesn’t sit down for too long. He loves being chased, jumping on the trampoline (we have small one where I hold on to him), he loves when I’m more animated and tickle him throughout our lessons. But yea I found it funny when you said they break things, because that’s what he does 😭 we got him some bubble wrap for him to pop recently and that seems to calm him down. But yea he has lots more energy compared to my girls. 😅 I’m amazed at moms that have more than one boy, I have to learn lots from them so I’ll hopefully check out the people you mentioned.

Thank you so much for this helpful video!! These are all things that will benefit me and my son. If there is one thing that I've learned about raising boys (6 kids, two of whom are boys), is that when I need to have a serious conversation or give them constructive criticism, it's best to do it when we are side-by-side doing something physical, rather than face to face. So like going for a walk, doing the dishes together, even driving in the front seat of the car together. It really makes them feel less confronted.

Its almost as if YT could read my mind. I was talking to my husband recently about how different it'll be for me once our son is here. We have 2 daughters, 8 and 3 YO. Im due with our son in June. Its definitely going to change things. My girls love to write and read books (my toddler is already starting to read). I fully expect my son to not want to read or write until he's at closer to 7. I have no idea what to expect for homeschooling my son. Thanks for some insight! I enjoyed this video.

Thanks for the video. I have a two year old son who is very active, won't sit on my lap for long, and does not like coloring. He is also a late talker but recently became very interested in numbers and will count from 1-10 in order. He started talking more after he learned his numbers. I kept worrying there was something wrong but I see now I need to meet him where he is at! He's also very wary of people who arent family and will scream in fear if people try to reach out and touch him. Does anyone have any advice on this?

Holy cow, yes they are different. My girls are content for hours and hours of play and my son is younger then them and just acts like a caged animal. He gets super angry and destructive. I've noticed he does this when he is bored. I'm always trying to make sure he has a chore or two and then goes outside. The outside saves my sanity!

Thank you for this video. Have you read the book: “Mother & Son, The Respect Effect” by Emerson Eggerichs? It’s very insightful regarding how boys thrive in their relationships with their moms when they feel respect by her in how she speaks and relates to him. It’s an AWESOME book and I recommend it to all mothers of boys.

I don't measure my kids by what everyone else in school is learning. Our goal is a little progress every day. I prioritize teaching them to read, write, and do basic math. After that gets going, we add the other things. I touch on this a lot in my videos. I love to see more and more dads homeschooling!! I hope that some dads can benefit from what I have to share, but my content is geared toward moms because that's what I know. :)

This video is so good. You brought up independent math. We have been doing saxon math, which we have been really happy with. Our kids can work fairly independently by grade four. In gr. 4 there are the Dive videos and so they get the lesson through that or simply by reading the lesson in their books. My son is in gr. 2 so he still has to wait to get his lesson from me. Lately he has been talking about how he is wanting to do math the way his older sister who is in gr. 4 does it. This method doesn't start until grade four. I think you do Singapore math. Do you find that in gr. 3 they are able to do the math on their own? I'm wondering if it would be a good option for him as he likes to work quickly through his work. It might be beneficial if he doesnt have to wait for me. Thank you!

If your son is a somewhat strong reader, Christian Light has easy-to-follow structured math lessons that are made to be child-led. I started my kids on that curriculum for 1&2 grade math and they excelled with it. After they did the bulk of their review work in those individual lessons, I would just go over any new info (but the majority of the time they knew what to do from reading the lesson). They are now naturally self-starters when it comes to math.

CTC math is great for the upper grades as well. My middle schoolers use it. Straight to the point, independent, flexible, etc.

Thank you so much! Yes, we do Singapore Math (except for my daughter who is doing Saxon for Algebra I). Yes! For the most part, they can work on their own, in Level 3, although, I did find that they weren't able to get all the way through both books in Level 3 by the end of the year because it gets a little more challenging at that level. But I am ok with them learning at their own pace, as long as they are working hard.

Maybe you address this elsewhere but, how do you balance teaching boys AND girls on the daily basis? I have 1 girl and 3 boys and it's easy for me to do what the boys need because they're the majority, but hard to know how to do both with my daughter in mind. Thoughts?

Lots of free play and reading aloud. Outside play, puzzles, lego's, blocks, card and board games. Cooking and housework alongside mom and dad. If he's developmentally ready, start reading and writing, but I'd keep it very low key. 15-45 minutes a day. Reading: Bob Books Writing: Handwriting Without Tears Math: RightStart Math or Singapore I love Ambleside Online Year 0. Five in a Row is also good.

Good video but my son is not a typical boy. He's not active or connected to his dad.

Oh my, six months! Do you have a gym nearby you can join? That would be great if it's an option for you. Otherwise, I say invest in some good outdoor gear and outdoor hobbies.

My Grandson will tell me to pretend that I don't believe that he can do something. I guess it makes him motivated to prove me wrong. He knows I believe in him, I just have to pretend. 😂🤷🏼‍♀️
