Homeschool Day in the Life 2024 and Curriculum
Welcome to a glimpse of our homeschooling journey! My role as a homeschooling mom and work-from-home mom is a combination of love, learning, and multitasking.
We had to homeschool our son, Koda, because his school wasn’t a good fit for him. Right now we’re focusing on filling in any gaps and reviewing. He gets to choose the order of what subjects to choose during the day.
Today I even make an Easy Chicken Parmesan Pasta.
Every day we do reading, math, and language arts. Then Science and Social Studies alternate every other day. He usually finishes school in under two hours.
For Math, we use Teaching Textbooks. For Language Arts, we use Bravewriter and The Well Trained Mind Grammar Workbook. For Science and Social Studies, we use 180 days of workbooks supplementing with BrainPop/KZread Videos and KiwiCo projects.
Balancing homeschooling with work requires careful planning and flexibility. It's about prioritizing tasks and moments to provide guidance and support to Koda.
Of course, no day is without its challenges. But through it all, the bonding and one-on-one time with Koda has been priceless.

Great job Koda, and good job Jen too. Finding a good school and student combination can be hard, but this is a good solution until next year.

You could’ve gotten him tutoring. Don’t take this the wrong way, but you can’t hold his hand forever. He can’t leave school every time things don’t work out. Next year, he should go to a different school. But make sure to check out the state exam scores and student to teacher ratio. Also, go on a tour of the school.

It wasn’t about him needing tutoring. It wasn’t challenging. It was many things too and it was too late to transfer him anywhere.
