My senior year in high school, my teacher at our small Christian private school, taught us to meal plan. How to budget. She gave us an amount of what the average college students makes a month and told us to budget. That life skill was so valuable because she taught us how to live within our means. She taught us to meal plan and how to make basic dorm meals.

Denison Algebra is also the best-it takes traditional math and actually makes it useful-cannot say enough goods things about it, changed our math homeschooling life.

We are coming to the end of our 3rd year of homeschool and it is such a cool thing learning alongside my kids!! Being able to witness the “lightbulb” moments and having a few of those myself ;-) It truly is one of the best things about getting to school my kiddos at home 💕

Haha I want that consumerism math book for myself and I’m 31 with a Bachelors degree 😂 Not sure if this is a touchy subject, but I just learned that a homeschooler diploma sometimes gets a bad rep and people op for GED, what are your thoughts on that from your personal experience? My daughter is only 3 and I plan to homeschool and I was public schooled so that’s all new to me ❤

This looks like an amazing math program. My daughter is a bit young still (going into grade 7) but I'm wondering how young you think you could start then on this. I might do it twice. Middle school and then again in high school but I'm concerned it'll be boring for her the second time around

If college bound, would this count as a math post Algebra 2? My junior needs 2 and so far he only has one that qualifies (Geometry). He's not a math person except for practical real life math so I was thinking about consumer math or statistics.

Homeschool grad with an advanced degree here, look at the SOLs for your state. If a public school student can take it in Jr. or Sr. year, then you should be fine. But I would also consult the schools your child plans on applying to.

Hello! Do you have any advice for husbands who are concerned about the burnout that can come with homeschooling? My husband is almost 100% on board but is worried about the lack of “me time” for me and doesn’t want to add more things to my plate, I’m very aware of the pros and cons of homeschooling, how do I help him understand that this would be best for our family long run?

  • @caitlinmenger8716

Show him! :) Ask for a trial run for you to show him what you’re made of. That’s what I did and now my husband is 1000% on board. You can always change things up as needed. But it’s certainly worth a try.

My question is, so what? (And I don’t mean that rudely). Parenting burns us out at times. Burn out while doing something doesn’t make it bad or not desirable. I’m not saying we shouldn’t take steps to avoid it… but there are many seasons in our lives when burn out is inevitable and we hit that “wall”. I’m 14+ years homeschooling and have had seasons of burn out. I wouldn’t change one thing. I would do it all over again. The nice thing is that your husband realizes it’s a very real reality for many homeschool moms, so maybe he can take steps to help alleviate your workload, see the signs of it coming, etc. You got this!

As fantastic and useful as this information is and as bad as we all wish we knew this stuff going into adulthood, is it really wise to have an entire year of math dedicated to things kids don't care about? This curriculum is necessary information for every young adult, and all good parents, of course, want their kids learning this stuff the easy way. However, might this be better spaced out over 3 or 4 years? Or maybe given as a graduation present?

I cannot imagine a student finishing with high school and then wanting to do a math curriculum for their graduation gift. Spreading it out over a longer timeframe sounds reasonable, and that's the beauty of homeschool. You don't have to follow a specific routine or formula!

Kids don’t care about what? Explain? Kids don’t care about a lot of things but we still teach it and expose it to them. I would argue my teens would find this math very interesting and would care about it very much. Also have you met a graduating teen? Please don’t give them another course for graduation. lol
