Soat Mon, I sure would like to see a video if you can on how this works in your situation. We have something similar but just very hard clay.

I do plan to get a video of using it. I hope in the next few weeks, I've had to work extra and I'm getting behind in things around the place. Anyway, these down pressure units are usually used in situations like you describe, hard clay. I'm hoping it will help with the shale, I'm sure it would work well in clay but I still have some doubt about shale. The only other option I can think of is a rock auger like the utility companies around here use. Unfortunately the start at about $900. www.everythingattachments.com/McMillen-Rock-Ripper-Auger-Bits-2-Hex-Drive-p/mc-rock-auger-bits-mcrock.htm Hopefully I'll get a video of it in action soon. I also still need to video using the 3 point hitch winch that I made. Good to hear from you.

That is an interesting concept you are using. Have never thought about that idea before. Wouldn't it be nice if the three point hitch arms had down pressure. None of my tractors have that and I have never seen it, but likely it does exist. That would solve the problem too, it seems. I did answer your question on the foam filled tires last week in the comments.

I did read your reply, thank you for the additional information. Foam is something I would like to try in the future, the cost has always held me back. They do make down pressure kits for 3 point hitches like this one crossimplement.com/news-and-updates/article/2014/12/3-point-hitch-downforce-kit That would work for an auger, grader blades etc. It's probably the better way to go if you have the funds and it fits your needs.

If the armas actually pushed down... in a brush hog case thru a gully.... the brush hog would try to hold the tractor rear end up off ground and end up buckling it... some situations yes but some no

Ih fast arms push down you can lift the back of the tractor with them. If you take a bolt out it will float like any other three point

Interesting. Timely. A post hole digger was delivered here yesterday (going to replace the posts in one of the barns (the first one was sent to Macedon, Texas (we are in Macedon N Y), The second one got lost somewhere, the third arrived yesterday)), the metal crate it was in was crushed (something VERY heavy was set on it), pictures and claim files taken and sent). Looked closely at it after the driver left and there are two three point hitch post hole diggers in the one smashed create, I have not told the company yet, will assemble it this weekend and use the best parts (they are all scratched), then call the company to come get the extra one. I feel a video coming on. We have rocky soil (rocks 3 inches in diameter). My fear is it will screw itself into the grouind and not be able to lift it back out. I will drill and lift many times to try and keep that from happening. I do not have the third function (A thumb was offered with the backhoe that is on the tractor, but it is no plumbed). I do need to hook up a third function as I also have a flail mower coming which has a hydraulic slide. To move that I thought of using the bucket lines, move the mower to where I want and then disconnect and reconnect the bucket circurit. Will that work, how would I add a third function? I do have rear hydraulics, but no controls (they are on the back hoe). Glenn

It was nice of them to send you a complete set of spare parts. ;) Not sure about your hydraulics and would hesitate to give you too much advice as I messed mine up the first time. I do know that you need attach to a valve to send pressurized oil to the cylinder and then the pressure relief valve has to go directly to the tank not to another valve. Since you have rear hydraulics to the rear for a backhoe it's likely that one is pressure and the other leads to the tank. You could just buy a valve from Surplus Center or even a hydraulic solenoid and you would be set if that's the case. Good luck with your new auger. Glad you and your place survived the storm!

@@SoatMon Thanks, I think that is what I have on the rear, One hose is the supply and the other is the return. I will investigate and when I make a move will post it.
