Homemade Floating Sluice Experiment | Finding Gold

Ойын-сауық

Today we headed back up to the creek to give our homemade floating sluice a test run and find gold. After trying to solve the problem of low water flow in this section of the creek we experimented with a design to float a sluice that was operated with a hand pump.
The sluice ran really well but an issue arose that put an end to the days sluicing operations. For the small time we got to run the floating sluice the results were very good and now we have solved the issue it's ready to head back and suck up some more Australian gold.
Cheers for watching and hope you enjoy from the team at Groty Gold.

Bro, 100% mad. Suggestion is to get rid of that riffled pipe, they cause headaches. $30 from Bunnings you can buy a smooth bore kit.

Thankyou Chris we really appreciate your comment. We walked around Bunnings trying to find the right hose but had no luck, having to deal with imperial measurements in a land of metric measurements is painful sometimes, LOL. Might search Bunnnings online as our local one just may not stock it. Thankyou for the tip. Cheers for watching, happy hunting Alicia & Steve

Cheers from gold country in Northern California. This is great! Super lightweight, cost effective and it works. I did something similar but I 3D printed the whole thing. I hated pumping into the bucket and having to tote the bucket around. I also used the flotation noodles for buoyancy. I originally used a corrugated hose. I switched to a smooth hose and maintenance/clog issues were greatly reduced. Great job! Thanks for posting.

G'day Alicia & Steve. Love your design, straight forward in its approach with a good layout. To be honest I was expecting it to go arse over once the pan at the end filled up with waste. I'm guessing that for most of us, we would have to wait till the end of summer to be able to steal the kids pool noodles and get away with it 😆😆. If you can replace your existing hose with an internally smooth hose you'll find its easier to work with because you'll obtain higher suction pressure and water velocity with less pumping effort simply because an internally Smooth hose has about 30% less restriction to flow than an internally Corrugated hose. It's the same with airflow through corrugated duct versus smooth duct, pipe or tube. Thank-you for another top original video 👍.

This is a great idea good job!!! You guys should try it with a larger hand pump and smooth hose supplying the sluice! you will probably be able to pump the Material with less effort do to less friction with a smooth hose

Hey guys, very inovative of u both it's an awesome idea. Can i make 1 suggestion, u should try using a smooth wall hose so as 2 eliminate having cleaning out aswell thus shorter clean up time. Top work guy's.

It was very recently I found your channel, very fun and informative. Also like the design you have, two things I was thinking about, one that someone mentioned with smooth hose between pump and sluice. And two maybe use a rectagular tube as s,luice instead, I think due to the curvature of the bottom that it is not as effective as a straight bottom. Here in Sweden we have type rectagular ventilation ducts in plastic that are 4x2 inches and very light which could work. Maybe worth a try and I would like to see how it does! Haha. Keep up the nice work!

WOW THAT FLOATING SLUICE IS AWESOME YOU SHOULD PUT A PATENT ON THAT SLUICE or kickstarter cuz this is brilliant I know a few gold prospectors that can't run a regular sluice in some parts of like Canada Australia or whatever Pioneer Pauly would probably love that thing cuz I know in B.C CANADA he is not allowed to run a regular sluice there SO GET THIS THING GOING ASAP LOL any who till next time 🇨🇦😎👍🇨🇦😎👍🇨🇦😎👍

I have one of those pumps, after trying it a few times I put some stainless steel wire across the intake to filter rocks above 1/2" which were always plugging the valves. Works much better now, except for leaves which still plug it up occasionally.

The only thing I can see that might be a problem is every time you pump you are sending a surge of water across riffles which might cause gold loss. It is better to have a consistent flow of water with the sluice being at the appropriate angle. Good job on the design it is more than I have done.
