Homemade dump trailer with a winch.

This was a build I did a couple years ago before I could afford a fancy hydraulic dump truck. sorry it's mainly just a slide show, but I thought some people might get some ideas from it.

Thanks. It was a fun project. Unfortunately I ended up outgrowing it and had to upgrade. The poor thing was sitting around too much so I sold it.

how did you figure out how long to make the arms?

So that was one of the most difficult parts. I made them as long as I could so they would still fit inside the frame. My thought process was the longer it was the more leverage it would have. The initial lift was the hardest. I had to open up the sissor part alittle to get it to lift actual weight

Thats a cool light weight dump trailer. I wonder if you put some rollers where the cable runs against the front of the trailer frame to prevent wear on the cable. I see that once it gets to a certain height it no longer rubs.

Thanks, I actually ended up putting a plastic wear block on that point. It was one of my favorite builds and I learned alot about block and tackle setups and how much it actually takes to lift the weight of soil. I actually ended up selling it because I needed to be able to move more material.

@carlmottola5611 Thank you, it was a fun project l. I learned alot. I even made the hinges for the dump assembly because I couldn't find anything the right size

@@Carollascompactconstruction really cool little trailer. What would you guess is the max load it could lift? I see you made it more for a quad/side by side then a on the road vehicle

@carlmottola5611 I think the most I've ever had in it was about 1 yard of dirt so maybe a little over 2000 lbs. It could be pulled down the road but I didn't want to really push it for saftey. I had two different axle widths because that was what I had available. It was just safer to keep it on the property. It was really useful around the neighborhood also.

No I just used what I had available. It was a fun project. I had to make most things from scratch. Like I used steel pipe to make the hinges and the lift mechanism

What size winch and would this lift 2 yards of dirt?

I ended up using a 3500 lb winch and 2 yards was about the limit. Especially if the material was wet. It was consistently good for 1 yard no matter what
