Homemade Deer Mineral Lick

Спорт

Will a homemade deer mineral mix perform as well as a commercial product? For a fraction of the cost I bought the ingredients and mixed my own minerals and placed them in the same 3 locations as I placed the commercial product last year. The results were every bit as good in terms of how often the deer visited the mineral licks. It's very easy and anyone can be just as successful. You just have to find the ingredients and you are going to make quite a volume, but you can save money compared to buying the commercial brand.
ingredients:
trace mineral salt: championschoicesalt.com/produ...

dicalcium phosphate: found at local co-op, I can't find exact one online
dried molasses: found at local co-op, I can't find exact one online

I am seeing more and better deer for this time of year compared to previous years. I hope that translates to season. You're getting primed for an Iowa trip this year I hear.

There is a multitude of ingredients to try. 1 way is to benefit the deer. That's what you're doing. The other way is to make an attractant / with some health benefits to it, such as a homemade block. You can make those yourself. A little research plus some experience will tell you what works best in your area. It's the cheapest way, plus it's the best way when it comes to observing deer. You're doing good, though. Just my 2 cents!

A co-op is a group of landowners or land stewards that cooperate together in deer hunting to some degree. Sometimes it’s just sharing information but more often it’s agreeing to hunt by specific guidelines. For example, in our case, we have agreed that we will only shoot 4.5 year old deer or older and there is a large fine to be paid if that is broken. It’s a legal document. There are a lot of other guidelines we’ve all agreed to with the purpose of growing and harvesting larger deer and maintaining a healthy herd. But not all co-ops are that structured or rigid. It’s called a co-op just because it’s a cooperation between people with adjacent or close proximity properties so that common management principles can be applied over a larger piece of property than an individual’s parcel. It allows for more effective management when it’s applied over a larger area. I hope this helps but you can probably find better info by googling it or going to national deer association’s website where there are many articles.
