Homeless man from Edinburgh speaks on street life hardship - London Street Interview

In this video, we introduce Tam, a resilient individual from Scotland bravely navigating the challenges of homelessness on the bustling streets of London. Tam reflects on his staggering 15 to 20 years spent enduring the harsh realities of life without a stable home. Initially drawn to London by the promise of love and marriage, Tam's journey took an unexpected turn when his relationship faltered, leaving him with no choice but to face the streets alone. Throughout his tumultuous journey, Tam shares profound insights and wisdom gained from his lived experiences, offering viewers a poignant glimpse into the often overlooked world of homelessness.

Homeless does not necessarily mean low IQ and low standards as this man obviously proves. He has a wisdom about him that belies his social status as of this moment in time. He will probably never get to read our comments, which is a pity , but I wish him well and to know that he has a voice and one that’s worth listening too.

Sounds like a very intelligent man with a lot of sensible things to say such a shame you’re on the streets my friend I think if someone if gave you a chance even at your age now you would take it and grasp it and make something of yourself because you have definitely got what it takes. I have just retired recently from my roofing business. I employed several people working with me on site and I would have no hesitation to employ you my friend. By the way great Head of hair I’m jealous😊👍 God bless you and good luck to you in everything you do. I’ve got a feeling things are gonna turn for you in the right way❤.

I think age concern should get in contact, he is 66 he cannot live like this another 10 years, ive know a guy who choose to be homeless until he was 67, he did keep clean and lived in a village, he now has a flat and works there is hope he spent 40 years living in sheds, and taken food and showers with local people helping out.

This is going to be a very unpopular recollection, I know, but I am old enough to remember when the average man in the street (as it were then, and pardon the pun!) rightly or wrongly viewed homeless people in general as a group (or vagabonds & beggars as they were called by ordinary people back then) as feckless and having brought about their own situation. It was a deeply held view. It's really interesting to see more than half a century later how attitudes and signposts to responsibility have changed. I suppose seeing and hearing individuals' stories told in their own words makes a big difference and stops people othering them as part of a faceless group.

I have lived on the streets myself for 5 years many years ago after I got out of the Army,I met many people and most were on the street because they wanted to be on the street for various reasons. Its a way of life and this old fella knows his street craft by now. People have this strange idea that people living on the streets are some kind of victims, actually nothing could be further from the truth,if you know your skills you work them and you will get through life and survive.

I can't imagine being able to endure this way of life long term, the weather conditions & the constant hyper vigilance. I have watched docs where people who've been on the street long term have been given a home but struggled to stay in it & left to return to the streets

@@MissOrchid12 I can understand you're point of view but I've been through situations, conditions and environments that the average person has not. The human body and mind is just truly amazing at adapting and surviving until one pushes oneself you will never realise one's own mental and physical strengths, for example our bodies don't need food each day, everyone I see eats too much and too often and sugar and carbohydrates that's what destroys peoples health.
