In the comic book this show is based upon, the hijackers were planning on crashing the plane into the Brooklyn Bridge. (I think the incident was intended to be referential to the 9/11 attacks.) The passengers were doomed anyway.

The most scary thing is how he doesn’t care at all, he doesn’t even try.

Homelander did the right thing. He gave the entire plane load of passengers hope that the jet could be landed. He did not separate mother and child. The passengers thought they were all going to be saved when he went outside. They thought the plane was going to be landed. I would not separate a mother and child.

They really didn't. Homelander had the option to ferry them one by one down to the water where they could wait for a naval rescue but he was too lazy to do that and Maeve was powerless to stop him (but also complicit cuz she didn't put up a bigger fight)

The wings, ailerons, flaps, rudder, and elevator are all fine, he’s fast enough to apply force incrementally. Planes have landed without engine thrust and didn’t need to be caught midair. Plus he could’ve just tied the seatbelts together and taken everyone in one trip.

The part you add to it, usually 'blah blah and I love you', is meant by comparison to the former phrase to be a fact just as obviously true. It's like saying I love you as surely as the sun comes up every day.

Love coming back to watch this video from time to time to see Homelander save every single one on the plane, shows what a real hero he is.

The moment he fried the controls, he had no intention of saving them. Even if he tried to think of a way, the risk of not saving all of them would be too high. And even if he succeeded, it would be seen that he put them all in danger by recklessly destroying the controls in the first place. Either way, it would be a PR disaster. And that's all he cares about really

My favorite moment in this scene is when Homelander says: "Hey, Maeve, let's I will move those people to the ground by flying for 123 times". True hero Earth deserved.

Honestly, Homelander has got to be one of the greatest antagonists conceived of in recent history. The brilliant thing is, he isn't even evil. He's just... Lazy. He doesn't want to kill those people, he just doesn't give two shits about saving them if not doing so wouldn't affect him. You give a real person power like that, that's probably how they'll turn out. Not evil scheming power hungry maniacs. Just self serving arseholes.

For me, he is evil, not lazy. He doesn't save people because he wants to save them but because of his image, PR, because he was told to do that. Look how he didn't bother to try to think what to do. That wasn't lazy, that was being unbothered, lack of feelings.

He left the jet on a high note so the people could feel hopeful.

This was one of the most uncomfortable parts in any comic book show I’ve ever seen. The prgressive 180 when the pilot was shot and the two slowly walked past all them passengers... I can’t believe it all happened within a span of five minutes!

Its hard to say becuz of the physics of trying to glide a plane from a fixed point is very complicated. You have to think about how massive the size of the plane is plus the weight and velocity. But you make a fair point, they were over water so it was worth a try

Homelander is better than Omni-Man in some ways but worse in others. Omni-Man does what he does because he believes it's the right thing to do. Homelander, on the other hand, knows full well that the choices he makes are wrong; he just doesn't care. Personal power is more important to him than helping people or making the world a better place. And selfish, absolute apathy can be just as harmful as ruthless fanaticism.

No one: Homelander to the terrorists: "You guys are the real heroes"

Love how this scene kinda criticises the logistics of all those old superhero comics where the hero would casually life an airplane. Homelander actually scientifically explains why that doesn’t work 😅

4:12 I love how some of the Passages thought Homelander was gonna carry them to the ground safely and followed Maeve when she tried to take the little girl and her mother. Lol

This scene was hard to watch, but Antony Starr's (Homelander) performance was sadistically amazing. This guy deserves a golden globe.

They sure did a great job showing off if Superman was a lazy sociopath.

Some are calling him lazy, but imo he's got his game right: 1. Plane can't be lifted because the hull can't support all the weight on a single point 2. Rescuing a few people by landing them one by one after the absolute mess they created will only ruin the reputation of the Seven. The fatal mistake was lasering the cockpit and he admitted "Meave... we're done here."

the issue here is that most viewers are used to Marvel/DC, so having a comic book world where the creator specifically had more "grounded/realistic" physics in this specific regard confuses people

Of course. One is supposed to stay calm in a tragedy and give hope to others. What a guy! I would love to be in Homelander's hands if I were in dire danger. Please note, he did save the passengers from the terrorists and the passengers lived the rest of their lives free.

I've never felt so much dread and heartbreak for characters that only have a few minutes of screen time that we don't know anything about. The tension and the way Homelander just doesn't care. You fell every little bit of this scene and I can't believe it's only five and half minutes long.

I feel like the extras acting is SEVERELY underrated in this, as ridiculous as that statement sounds. The passengers sound so genuine when they realize the situation and I think that makes this scene much more tense and depressing. In other news, the sound effect and how his neck snapped got a chuckle out of me 0:33

This is the reason why a child needs a mother and father. Kal-El had Johnathan and Martha Kent. They taught him truth, justice, and love. Homelander was raised by scientists who taught him how to use his powers with apathy.

Homelander resigned to doing absolutely nothing shows just how far gone he is from being a superhero. He is not interested in helping, he’s interested in lording over the helpless humans that he is more powerful than. There’s many ways he could have at least tried to help (in example opening a hole and pulling the plane up/keeping it airborne in other ways) but he is completely flippant.
