The Aliens power loader is my fav piece in the whole room...great job!

I did the adjustable desk conversion last year and really like it. My desk has three saved heights. I set the lowest for sitting, a height for standing, and a height for sitting on a stool. I recommend going back and rounding off the edges of the desk with a router. I have squared off corners on my desk and they bother my forearms when I lean on it. I would round mine off, but it is hollow. When I saw the end of the desk box I thought you made a custom computer case, maybe next time. What kind of chair does Carissa (?) have? Great job on the room.

Can we talk about the carpet squares?? Gah! Love! They are perfect!

There are lots of colors to choose from out there. We like this because it's a small room and it helps to not make the space close in around you and reflects light really well, additionally it's a warm color that helps the space feel comfortable. Yep, we like it!

Duuuude I was going crazy trying to diffuse the led strip on the motorcycle flux engine and never thought of the foam in the saber that clip was a super useful piece of the puzzle, I sent you vids of the bike on ig as always thanx for being the inspiration and guide for my builds!!

I've scoured the KZreads looking for videos on DIY desk builds that just aren't up to par or, on the opposite end of the spectrum, are just impossible to be done without special tools.

Just wanted to let you know - firstly this is a GREAT video, building stuff doesn't just have to be about greeblies and LED (although there IS a place for both of those in pretty much everything...). Secondly, Watching this I realised that over the last couple of years I've spent most of my waking hours seated.. time for a change. FlexiSpot EQ5 frame is now fitted to my desk top and I'm standing as I type this. Thanks for the information and the prompt to actually DO something!

Did I see you using magnets as hold downs? I love that idea. I’ve been using masking tape all these years (wasteful). Now to find out if the honeycomb bed of the Trotec is magnetic. Probably aluminum though. Also, the badly rusted/corroded shelf/tray on your side of the office. Did you rust it? Or did you find it that way? If you bought it, any chance of a vendor? If you made it, show us how! Pleeeeeze?

This is awesome , Its what I was hoping to do but now my office / collection room is now being converted again to be a baby's room , but it was starting look a little like this . Loved it , and so what if it " wasn't a traditional geek build " its still great to see. 😁😁👍👍

When I think of "The Smugglers Room" making a desk. I honestly think of a flight sim rig based on a Star Wars cockpit lol. Like a Star Wars version of Afterimage Flight's simpit. But I know that's more of a gaming battlestation type thing, rather than an office build.

@@TheSmugglersRoom Well if you ever decide to make a gaming setup, I think it would suit the basement and could be an awesome project. You should look up Afterimage Flight, his simpit is such an inspiration. But he went for more of a near future real world military aesthetic for his rig. I imagine a Star Wars simpit built by you, would be amazing.

I really enjoyed watching you build this room out.

Thank you much! We love how it turned out. No, we still have our Glowforge. We had an opportunity to get a larger laser and picked up an OmTech laser. I still love my Glowforge, and the ease of use is still the clear winner. The OmTech is still a learning curve for me. Definitely more powerful, i just need to get my head around it more.

“Not a traditional geek build”? This oozes geek! Everything from the greeblie(hiding) box, to Carissa laying out every shelf and element in AutoCAD. I have to admit I was a little disappointed in the missed opportunity to make the greeblie(hiding) box into a really cool pc case. Still super cool though. I love every aspect of this “not Star Warsy” office. No the real question is: when did y’all upgrade to the omtech laser? That is a seriously cool addition.

@@TheSmugglersRoom I used to be PC. But, I converted to Mac more than 25 years ago. Never looking back. That said, the cabinet looked about the right size to hold at least a couple of Mac Minis. Along with tons of extra room. Although the notion of tearing down a Mac Pro and incorporate the components seems a bit intriguing. Sacrilegious, but, intriguing nonetheless.

Amazing desk you've put together! Will say I'm surprised on two fronts though.. you didn't use the upper portion of the light box to display a "hidden" lightsaber, and that you didn't sink a wireless charger pad/puck into the desktop somewhere lol Jokes aside, another fantastic build taking a great idea to an impressive final buildout!

Yeah, I just wanted a cool greeblie reveal, otherwise you don’t get to see the lightsaber often enough. The wireless charging station on the other hand is a great idea. I think I’ll add that!

@@TheSmugglersRoom a border around the room ceiling of the same color rgb light on the desk end would look great and give you both a little more light ( just an idea). I had at one time about thirty two feet of multicolor rope light around the perimeter of the room look pretty good and gave more light at night but the crappy screws it came with couldn't hold the length up forever and came down and hit me on my head as I was going from one side of the apartment to the other right above the door frame dang those rope lights hurt when falling down from above , but you could make a short shelf and put the rgb on that to keep it in place

we didn't replace the Glowforge. It's still an incredible machine. We needed a 2nd for some bigger projects as well as products we want to provide on our website this summer. Not sure how I feel about the OMTech just yet, but we will certainly plan to put up a video on it.

Quick question for EVERYONE, I recently painted my "Man Cave" wall in a dark brown. I can see "roller" marks EVERYWHERE? I've added 3 coats, what am I doing wrong? The paint is from Home Depot and it's upper mid grade paint. One coat coverage etc. Thank you all!!!
