    I just saw this I'm sorry. I like to use Pravana Intensive leave in spray on my scalp only directly after washing my hair. Never again till next wash but that helps to balance out the moisture on your scalp after being washed and tricks your scalp into not making excess oil at the same time.

    Is this just a regular a latch hook or do you have a link for this tool? Thanks Also I stumbled on your channel and am so glad I did! I’ve had dreads for almost 10 years, they’re free form. But I’m wanting to tame some of the unruliness so the top of my head isn’t so wild. I also brushed bangs out towards the beginning of my journey and now am having a hard time getting them to dread like the rest. I’ve got little dreads forming but they are squiggly and bumpy. any suggestions or content on something like that? Thanks! I wish I lived in Virginia I would so love to make an appt at your salon

    In terms of creating new luxe out of your bangs or other areas, I would just take your section, that come down to the route about 2 inches off of the route very dense Lee, and then braid the rest of the hair and put a rubber band on it and every day, do the route rubbing technique, which I have a video for. Eventually, everything that grows out of the route will become a Dreadlock and you'll be able to undo the braid and may be back comb the rest to finish it off. If this doesn't make sense, I will make a video for you

    Strangely enough, no. The hair is spongy and structurally the matting is like a basket weave meaning that it's both forgiving and also has spaces. The tool is flat and pointy so it goes through smoothly and the loc repairs itself. Locs are organic and always moving. I have heads that I started 10 years ago so I've gotten to learn what works and what doesn't in those heads that I created in the beginning. My techniques really do work so well to both control the shape and also allow the hair to do what it wants naturally. Thank you for your question. 🥰

  • @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy

    @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy

    I w o old recommend watching my video about root rubbing to rough up the roots and encourage them to lock faster. However, if you have grown out several inches and don't have loose hairs, I worry that your dreads are too tight. Are you using locking pepper or something? (I don't recommend ever using this) What you need is to loosen the transition area so that it can speak to the new growth. If it's too tight, it won't transition from locked hair to straight hair. Like they can't talk to each other. You have to soften that area then root rub. Or a loctician needs to soften it with a crochet hook for you. I don't recommend crochet on yourself if you aren't properly trained.

  • @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy

    @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy

    I will say that there are definitely methods to softening them and I can usually always get my tool through just about anything. Unless it's 10 years old or put that tightening stuff in them. That stuff will ruin a perfectly good dreadlock. You may just need to start conditioning a lot to help soften them up And let someone else get their hands on them

  • @xl4rk

    @xl4rk

    Жыл бұрын

    @Briana McGowan ok that actually makes more sense. I have fairly straight hair, and all the research I did prior said to never condition them or they would unlock as baby dreads, so even though I have sparingly (about once a month) used conditioner it's obviously not been enough since they fully locked. Also my hair was waist length bleached blonde before I locked it, so that may also be a factor to why they locked so tight based on what you said. Thanks so much for the advice to condition.

    @@briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy okay, my other question. i heard on a video that it was better to start at a shorter length like 6-12" but i feel like the process would shorten the hair even more and it may look silly. but since it takes so long to lock up that it may be better to go ahead and start short and just get routine maintenance, what is your opinion on this? 1 other question.. my hair on the top/middle is really thin, like im not bald, but i am scared im getting there. can you still work with that? there's still hair its just thinning pretty badly, i was thinking maybe it could just be put maybe into some of the side locs. the thing is, i used to keep my hair really short, but always wanted dreads and for some reason id always put it off "ill get em later" and then id cut my hair again. because when id try to grow it out at a medium length you get tyat awkward in-between phase of hair growth so id just say "maybe later" "SOMEday" then id buzz it off.. then i started noticing it thinning on top and was like crap, its now or never.. im going to end up bald amd i want to live out my loc dream before i get to that point so i started growing my hair out about a year ago. its now about probably 7-8" long is tyat something you could work with? do i need to wait till my hair gets longer, like past the shoulders or do some people start like this and just let them grow then maintain them? how much of a problem would the hair thinning ontop pose? would it he any cheaper for super short hair? typically id just come in for consultation and see you in person but id be driving almost 12hours to get it done, i just want to make sure everything is straight before i leave & figure out what id need to bring. also what method do you typically use on your clients? crochet, rip & twist, or backcomb? thank you for taking the time to read this & for answering my questions.

  • @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy

    @briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy

    3 жыл бұрын

    Locs should shrink from the root to the end therefore the ends are the last to lock up. The hair pulls up toward the root as it shrinks so eventually, the ends will pull up into the dread until there is very little hair left out. This can take anywhere from 4-12 months. When there is a small strand left out, you can pull it up into the dread and it should stay. If you pull in too soon, you will lose more length than necessary or it will just keep popping out. If you wait years to pull in, which is too long to wait, it will be too locked to accept new hairs and will probably stay out. Mine started out blunted and over time, they have come out because I was lightening my locs a lot so the hair is not healthy enough to stay in anymore.

    i have very dry very curly caucasian hair that has been loc'd now for 7 years, freeform but I need maintenance and my friend who does dreads for a living has been interlocking my hair. so far so good, but I saw your vid about your client with straight hair and now I want to maintain my own. I also don't like how tight she makes my locs and also, I like the sort of messy loose roots look, but too much root can make my hair knit together, especially during the summer. would you recommend this method of me? this is me a few years ago..... now my hair is almost completely locked up, just some very small clumps of curls, kzread.info/dash/bejne/f4Rmta2fZJm2gNo.html

    Dry curly hair does have that common problem of loose hairs getting connected. They've got a lot of tooth so they're basically like sticky. You have to separate nightly. I have a little video on that. It's hard to stop interlocking if that's been the consistent method it's been done. It'll create a weak spot. Not sure if that's the video you're saying you watched. The one about the interlocking. It's really not a great method for anyone unless it's the only method you use ever. That's the issue with it. You can start trying out this method. Loose hairs will always happen regardless whether you pull them in or not. It's a a lifetime maintenance program. We have switch people over from interlocking May times at our salon. Most of the time it's not an issue if it's consistently monitored but sometimes they break off like my client. I just think she did them too tight also.

    @@briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy I think my issue is tryin to do it all backwards in the mirror lol. Im just now figuring out the crochet to tighten them up a bit but mine are natural and some are pretty fat so been having a hard time getting through without bending the needle might have to give in and find someone like you and just pay to do it right but I'm cheap so was tryin to do it myself. Thanks for the vid tho.

    @@JohnSmith-fq7hj when you say you are bending the crochet needle are you talking about the little one or the pointy latch hook? Yeah, this is one of those things that needs a professional look every now and then at least to get them straight.

    @@briana_coolbreeze_gahipsy whichever your using in the beginning of this vid crochet hook maybe Also if mine are natural will they eventually round up more a couple are round now but a few are still kinda flat towards the top

    @@JohnSmith-fq7hj it is normal for them to lay flat against the scalp because that's the natural shape of your head. The swirl method will help to fluff them up and then rolling them after washing them. Self maintenance at the root in a safe way is the most difficult because you can't hold the dreadlock on your hand and go around it to create the tube shape as easily as when you're standing above someone and doing it. But if you hold it straight off the head and make sure to use the smaller tool (not directly at the root but 2" away from it holding the tool pointed AWAY FROM THE ROOT SO YOU ARE PULLING HAIR TOWARD IT AND NOT PULLING HAIR OUT OF THE SCALP) and then you can twist your dread around while you pinch the sides in, it will make it more like a cylinder
