Home made wooden camper shell

FOR SALE!!! Listed on Facebook, instagram, Craigslist and offer up.
This shell took me roughly a few months and is constructed entirely of lumber. The biggest time constraint is planning! Storage, material cost, accessibility and schematics are all easily overlooked so plan ahead the best you can or just solve it as you go like I did.
Stay on top of my mini series where I go into greater depth on questions asked, provide links and I break down specific steps of the campershell build.

I AM a carpenter by trade and I could come up with some critiques, but ill just say, its totally strong enough, the workmanship is great, its unique and it looks killer! What more could you want! Great job!

When I build my first one, I will absolutely welcome critiques. That is how you learn. By listening to professionals in the trade.

@Slippery Storm Why? what exactly can he or anyone say, this is a SUBJECTIVE thing, the guy built it and it functions as he designed it to.. If he was building it for you and you want to critique than by all means there are Literally thousands of ways to make these things the ONLY thing it needs to do is be safe not to come enough while going down the road.. If the guy asks for critique than by all means have at it.. but cmon "A reasonable person" really lol

@@TM-bd7nf professionals will tell you dont do it because you are taking work away from them there is ONE WAY to do ANYTHING, weather its build an engine a topper or house.. The RIGHT WAY and the thing that determines this is safety reliability.. once i build it I dont need someone saying "I would have done this or i would have done that.. I have been doing my own things for 40 plus yrs lol so i guess in not a reasonable person

Critique it for my sake. I love the way it LOOKS but think it could be built better in HIND SIGHT. I'm planning on building one for the top of my utility trailer and this design looks great but I'm stuck on methodology
You had stated that you are not a carpenter. This video proves you are a very good carpenter. Excellent build! A+
One of the most attractive and individual campers I've ever seen! By doing this you will have learnt quite a bit, mostly about yourself.
I've spent months looking for just this very buildout. It looks great. Bravo!
That's actually one of the best ones I have seen. I'd put it in my list of the top ten.. awesome job.
Good job young man, it's nice to see that the younger generation working on projects like this , thank you for your video !
Amazing. Great explanations and direct to the point. Tasteful choice of color and material.
I never imagined building my own truck cap. Fantastic. You should be proud of your work. I know I’d be sitting in my garage staring at that all day admiring my work if I built it. Great job. Inspirational.

Glad to hear!
"I did not heed my father's advise"!!! ????? Yeah! Unfortunately that's the way it goes! Some of our hardest lesson in life, have to be learned the hard way to get the point! Enjoy your build😁
I personally think it looks sweet and considering I built mine with a standard height truck cap, I am jealous of your head space. But making and using your own capper is a blast at camp after you personalize the inside for your needs. Kudos
Nice job man! Great to see other craftsmen out there still getting it done..
I love watching diy truck toppers!
Looks so cozy. I love that strained shiplap
I can tell you put a lot of thought into this project. Thanks for the video.
Fantastic work. Any one would be proud to claim that job. Good work. Don't let anyone sell your skills short.
Fabulous truck topper man! Great water proofing, wood working and hardware choices! Y’all are Very talented
fantastic job for winging it. very well thought out.
That’s pretty badass. Nice MGM Taco. The best part is , it’s the work you put into it and it looks great IMO.
That is one of the prettiest shells I've ever seen!
Absolutely beautiful job. It looks great.
Outstanding and beautiful build, great job!
As the son of carpenters and having experience myself the framing of the camper looked good a few more layers of materials than would typically be used. That being said the over all result looks nice especially for someone not used to building with wood. Nice job

Thank you for the insight, much appreciated!
I've been looking for some kind of camper or extended cap to put on a half ton p/u. I've been thinking about building something but this is really the only vid I've seen of someone doing it, you've given me some food for thought, thanks for posting. I'm leaning heavier to the build something.
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice! For a non-carpenter, you're a pretty good one! The ONLY THING that I would recommend is to add some drainage holes on top so H2O doesn't pool up & damage the wood. Great job

Thank you, I had done this but forgot to mention it, however it’s shown in my new video. Cheers!
You people whining about weight bother to listen to the young man when he said the topper was around 300 pounds? Most fiberglass toppers are close to 200. That truck will handle it just fine. Excellent job, Ayrton! Nice looking as well as a great place to spend some time in out in the woods.

That's what I was thinking about the weight. I was wondering how the wood frame would hold up from the vibration of driving. This build is perfect for my needs.

Thank you for the support brotha! I show how I lift the camper (by hand and via jacks) in a new video of mine. But I talk about the handling of my truck in my most recent video, cheers!

A good simple design. Thanks for doing that. I am just starting to investigate the possibilities of building my own topper. Excellent job!

Best of luck sir! Possibilities are dependent on your desires
That is beautiful, well thought out and still very lightweight...if it ever gets leaky from expansion mebbe you could fiberglass it over...
You did excellent & very professional on that build, GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!! Hard to find quality home-made topper video like yours, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
Love the background music. THE DOORS!!!!
You did a great job on the camper and the video! Really great!!!
Wow !!!! That’s beautiful!!
This is my favourite camper shell build! I’ve been getting ideas to build my own and found your video-perfect!!
Dude this thing is rad!!!!
I’m not a carpenter either but I’m pretty sure mine would look like something the Beverly Hillbillies might travel in! Great job, impressed for sure.
that is a beautiful topper! well done.
Considering the cost of a truck campers has gone crazy this is a pretty cost effective way to stay cozy when your camping . Nicely done

Your build looks awesome! I want to do something very similar on my 1961 Chevrolet Apache’s bed. Thank You for sharing your video!
I have found that not heeding my father's advice has always led to a significant part of my learning as well, ha-ha!
It's beautiful
Really a beautiful job👍
Looks awesome!
You make it look so simple.
Really like the build. Going to do something similar in a smaller scale. Length and height. Thanks for the vid. Very helpful!
Nice job!
Legit! Good job man. Good song!
Excellent build
Beautiful work
Very cool!
Wonderful job 😀
Great job,fantastic
Great job.
Great job. Excellent.
It’s beautiful bro! I’d recommend to anyone when doing exterior trim, try to always make the TOP horizontal pieces run the full length with the vertical pieces capped off by the top trim, than run the sides all the way down with the bottom trim framed in by the sides... this is for water drainage

Never too late to start your own build and sell the glass once it’s complete
That’s awesome!!
That is super nice
Good job ! I liked the burned look on the inside before it was finished ,wonder how that would have look throughout :)
looks great
I like it and it is functional and looks great.
I have a 02 3/4 ton Dodge diesel long bed and I really want to do something like this. Right now I have a extra tall fiberglass canopy but it is made for the 1st gen bed which is a bit different sized than mine. Seal leaks between canopy and truck and I just can't get it to stop no matter the material or how tight my clamps. Next summer I build one similar to yours. Looks great.

Saw a video where someone used a garage door bottom seal between the cap and rails. Seemed like reasonable solution to me.
Looks awesome.
Very nice!
Very well done for "not" being a carpenter. I am ...we'll used to be ...old age haha, and I am using many parts of your design. Very well done! Looks incredible!
Very nice job.
Nice work. Cool music.
Did I hear Riders on the Storm by The Doors playing in the background....great song from a great band...oh and btw nice build for "not a carpenter"
