Home made wooden camper shell

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

FOR SALE!!! Listed on Facebook, instagram, Craigslist and offer up.
This shell took me roughly a few months and is constructed entirely of lumber. The biggest time constraint is planning! Storage, material cost, accessibility and schematics are all easily overlooked so plan ahead the best you can or just solve it as you go like I did.
Stay on top of my mini series where I go into greater depth on questions asked, provide links and I break down specific steps of the campershell build.
I don’t own the rights to this song:
The doors - riders on the storm

I AM a carpenter by trade and I could come up with some critiques, but ill just say, its totally strong enough, the workmanship is great, its unique and it looks killer! What more could you want! Great job!

@Slippery Storm Why? what exactly can he or anyone say, this is a SUBJECTIVE thing, the guy built it and it functions as he designed it to.. If he was building it for you and you want to critique than by all means there are Literally thousands of ways to make these things the ONLY thing it needs to do is be safe not to come enough while going down the road.. If the guy asks for critique than by all means have at it.. but cmon "A reasonable person" really lol

@@TM-bd7nf professionals will tell you dont do it because you are taking work away from them there is ONE WAY to do ANYTHING, weather its build an engine a topper or house.. The RIGHT WAY and the thing that determines this is safety reliability.. once i build it I dont need someone saying "I would have done this or i would have done that.. I have been doing my own things for 40 plus yrs lol so i guess in not a reasonable person

Critique it for my sake. I love the way it LOOKS but think it could be built better in HIND SIGHT. I'm planning on building one for the top of my utility trailer and this design looks great but I'm stuck on methodology

I personally think it looks sweet and considering I built mine with a standard height truck cap, I am jealous of your head space. But making and using your own capper is a blast at camp after you personalize the inside for your needs. Kudos

As the son of carpenters and having experience myself the framing of the camper looked good a few more layers of materials than would typically be used. That being said the over all result looks nice especially for someone not used to building with wood. Nice job

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice! For a non-carpenter, you're a pretty good one! The ONLY THING that I would recommend is to add some drainage holes on top so H2O doesn't pool up & damage the wood. Great job

You people whining about weight bother to listen to the young man when he said the topper was around 300 pounds? Most fiberglass toppers are close to 200. That truck will handle it just fine. Excellent job, Ayrton! Nice looking as well as a great place to spend some time in out in the woods.

It’s beautiful bro! I’d recommend to anyone when doing exterior trim, try to always make the TOP horizontal pieces run the full length with the vertical pieces capped off by the top trim, than run the sides all the way down with the bottom trim framed in by the sides... this is for water drainage

I have a 02 3/4 ton Dodge diesel long bed and I really want to do something like this. Right now I have a extra tall fiberglass canopy but it is made for the 1st gen bed which is a bit different sized than mine. Seal leaks between canopy and truck and I just can't get it to stop no matter the material or how tight my clamps. Next summer I build one similar to yours. Looks great.
