Cool build...treated lumber will rot aluminum though...you may want to change it to non treated & seal it up with fiberglass resin...waterproofs the wood & won't fill the boat with pinholes...

Thanks man! Yeah my buddy and I had the ski motor, pump, and controls mounted in about 4 hours. I've since spent more time tweaking and buttoning up everything. I definitely suggest trying to find a ski with an aluminum pump not the fiberglass ones but plenty of guys have made those work too. If you are on facebook, check out the Franken jet page. Plenty of builds and information on that page. Wish it was a thing when I built this! Totally worth the work. I live on the river and this boat opened up a whole new world to me because I'm near the shallow areas.

Not really the best boat to fish off of because of the seating situation. I just wanted something that went fast in low water . The layout of this boat is more suited for drug smuggling or the jungle rivers of Vietnam.

Hey I just recently got a free jet ski that doesn’t run and it’s got the same exact motor and electrical box. I’ve fixed quite a few things with it so far. My main issue is I can’t find any wiring diagrams of the electrical stuff. Would you happen to have any pictures or be willing to take pictures of the wiring? Not all the wiring but just the wiring that’s coming out of the electrical box and the inside of the electrical box. Someone had done some electrical work in there and I thinks some wires got mixed up.

Do u have problems with the drains getting plugged that you covered with boards?. I use in flats in salt water and seaweed from cast net etc get all in boat and can easily clog the drain channels and if they're covered you cannot clear them easily. Wonder if you have had that issue or found a way to combat it?

The drain on mine is the back of the boat "Transom" , so no I haven't had that problem. I did install two bilge pumps on either side of the pump though because i cant always get it to fully drain because of the jet pump splitting the back of the boat. Or did you mean the did mean between the support ribs? I usually just go half throttle and the bow sticks up high and water makes its way back there then i pump it usually. also I bought a small pump for 5 bucks off amazon that you hook hose ends up to and run it off a battery powered drill. U can then put it anywhere you need to get rid of water. Hope any of what I mentioned helps. haha. And thanks for watching.

Very cool project I would love to see how it’s turned out in the long run so far my two main interest would be with your motor mount design was there any structural failure and stress over time? As well as leaks with the aluminum sandwich and then I hear the pressure treated wood and aluminum is a bad combination how has that turned out? Is your aluminum starting to corrode unexplainably?
@mycoolkeno
Жыл бұрын
Motor mount design held up fine. The front piston not so much. I do have another engine though going in over winter. No corrosion yet but I will be replacing the wood too, now that I have access to a spool gun.

@@zacharywinters9413 If you are on facebook. join the jet jon conversion group, mini jet group, franken jet jon group. Fiberglass is an easier conversion but not good for low water/ rocks. There are a few I've seen though that went with the fiberglass route. When running right, the runabout jets are a hoot. Mine cut in the water like a jet ski and when on plane I don't have any worries about the v hull in shallow water. The big thing is to just get you're pump back as far as you can. Good luck and don't be too scared. I had this boat 90% together in about 4 hours with help from a drunk friend. Another 10 hours had all the little stuff figured out. most of the stuff usually converts over easily. Throttle and steering is the only thing you usually got to spend too much time on. Plenty of companies offer different size cables and steering setups. Also look into how you're ski's fueling system works some are designed to have the tanks higher than the engine and other little things that might mess with you after the conversion. 3/4 throttle is probably worse for mpg, it was significantly slower compared to full throttle . I would say I got around 4 mpg at full throttle. I plan on finishing it up this winter and rebuilding the engine so i'll calculate the actual mpgs in the spring.
