What a sweet little creek. Looks like around 30mph. Bloody hard to control a jet boat in narrow conditions when your instinct says back off the throttle in a corner.

Ok. Just found this video. Super cool ride. Reminds me of when I had one of the Briggs & Stratton 5hp 4 stroke outboards they used to sell. It barely moved my boat and people would hear me coming long before I got there. They would be standing on their docks because it sounded just like a lawnmower engine except it was a boat motor. Every one of em said we didnt know what was going on.

That creek looks like it be a trapping gold mine! Also that jet drive Jhon boat is awesome man! One day id like to build one myself! However im gonna use a snowmobile engine or a 600cc 4 cylinder crotch rocket engine i personally like a lot more power! But hey thats just me! The predator engine is awesome too just not enough top end!

You have a pretty interesting installation, and you’re learning by doing. Great stuff! With all them very low bridges your going under I myself am not sure I want to go much faster on that creek than your going right now. Looks like you’re having some good time fun in some pretty skinny water.

You should take that engine off and use a 2 or 3 cylinder liquid cooled snowmobile engine with the jack shaft/clutch setup. You could utilize the water you’re running on to cool the engine. Also you would see rpm’s a lot closer to 8k or so depending on what gears you used. Cool project though. Look like fun.

I like the idea of using the predator motors.. I think you need to put on a comet style torque converter and then run a chain drive from that to your pump so you can change gear ratios.

the bottom of the boat in the rear needs to be more v shaped where the drive is. you should see less cavitation problems. the ramp should be shorter and steeper heading into the intake and long and shallow going from front to rear. earned a sub tho. love it also, spin the drive much faster. like 10,000 rpm

  • @JH1200A1

The pump intake will have to be a whole lot cleaner for 10,000 rpms and no cavitation. That engine will never spin it up that fast.

Ok, if you feel that the boat needs better handling in the corners, you can add a ruder. This would limit the depth you could run, so make a dagger board like ruder. You could hook it up to a lever control on the other side or tie it in to the one you already made to steer the jet. the ruder could allow for a faster and safer run.

@@noturfather1106 If you wanna keep it simple and low horse go air cooled so you can chew thru mud and debris Some around here put little automotive engines in and do a heat exchanger but it's way more complex basically they put the cooler inside the boat on floor with super large capacity of coolant and let the seawater run thru front pickup and dump out the back being fed just on gravity For the mud and log jumping I would go with air cooled

@@drifter9425 all great stuff man. I want to make a mud duck boat, small and light enough for me to drag up the banks from where I launch but with enough power to push me through the thick stuff and over dams without getting choked up with weeds. I was thinking my old 12 foot john boat would be a good candidate then maybe cannibalize the shaft and skeg from a longtail motor kit for my stern drive creation

Why are you running a clutch? No need, unless you have it set to only slip under a shock load as a safety for the engine. Also, I think that thing needs more gearing and I KNOW it needs a chain guard. Cool little boat though, would work great on the Tualatin near me

I have been slowly gathering parts for a simialar build. Have you considered a cvt style gokart cluch? They keep the engine in higher rpm range while allowing vairable gearing dependendent on load and would essentially give "neutral" while idling

To get better acceleration and torque you would need a bigger driven sprocket, small one on the engine and larger one on the propeller shaft. Unfortunately it looks as if there may not be enough room for a larger sprocket there.
