    Best bet would be to contact a local jet boat service/building shop to ask them for their opinion on what options you have available.

    Could you theoretically use universal joints in the shaft before you get to the housing?

  • @ripptydevibes2581

    Sure probably, although I suppose the reason they do not is because per each U-Joint comes with a power loss, as well as they try to build them a basically as possible. If you look at these straight shaft ski setups, the drive shaft is actually egged on both ends. This allows for forgiveness, they dont have to match up perfectly, there is room for 1/4" off on both ends, allowing the setup to be tuned and stay within specs that do not cause any wear over time.

    @@ripptydevibes2581 thank you, the reason I ask, is because I got a Mercury inboard v6 that fits, but the crankshaft is way to high for the drive shaft. I'm just trying to come up with a solution. If there is some other solutions, elaborate for me.

    @@roybabin924 I have heard of U-joint systems, but am not familiar with them. I would imagine though, if yours are WAY off then you may have an issue. They can tolerate difference, but im not sure how much. You would be better looking into the proper forum website for better information on your system

    Nice job !! What size dowl is that? Whered you buy it?

    I don't remember the dowel size. Measure the width of the teeth on your driveshaft, buy a dowel that's larger than the shaft teeth. Sand it down by hand in a circular pattern until it fits into the jet pump.

    @@ripptydevibes2581 did you have to sand and fit the one you had.. was hoping i could just get it from lowes or home depot.. my engine uses the same size shaft yours has.. dont want to have to buy the 300 dollar alignment tool

    @@djmjr77 I have since, made my own steel shaft alignment tool. I ordered a solid drill steel and a plastic slip bushing from Mcmaster free shipping about $35 total. Google (787 shaft alignment) and click the link for the forum of the homemade alignment tool and you will see it. YES, I sanded that wooden dowel because I had to buy the size up so that I was able to get it to fit properly.

    So how did you make the hole after marking it out on the inside of the intake?

  • @ripptydevibes2581

    @ripptydevibes2581

    The hole in the hull was cut using a cut off wheel. The hole in the intake was cut on aluminum plate using a jig saw and smoothed out with a grinder.

    Thanks for replying. I just wondered you know, after you marked out where to cut the hole with the dowel, how you got the jigsaw inside there to cut around your mark (the white paint). I guess you cut from the opposite side to where you marked out? I am going to try fabricating an intake myself, and I am curious about methods. Thanks again for your time to answer.

    Oh the hole for the driveshaft thru intake! Yes, I used the dowel covered in paint to transfer an accurate "rough" mark. Then I first started by drilling a small hole. Then I used a dye grinder with a burr bit to egg out the hole into the diameter that I needed.
