Home From Hospital Vlog #3 | Constipation Relief, Leaving the House, Fever?

I vlog about my scoliosis journey and in this video, I talk about why you need more than one thermometer at home, how to get constipation relief post fusion surgery, and how I was able to leave the house 6 days post-op. The next vlog will show the real pain I was having and how I had trouble sleeping, as well as my Christmas experience.
If you have any questions or video suggestions, leave them in the comments or email me.

Sarah, thank you so much for doing your vlog. I'm an old lady of 55 and getting my thoracic fusion surgery done May 7, 2020. You have given me so many great ideas that I never would have thought of to help me through this. Unfortunately I am alone, so every little thing, like the neck pillow, is a huge help. Blessings to you & your family

Since you are alone you might want to get a grabber to help get things that are out of your reach. You won't be able to bend down for a while. Good luck to you!

Hey Sarah! I'm going for scoliosis surgery in November - my curves are at 70 and 79 degrees. I've been watching all the vlogs I can find because I'm pretty scared and I just want to know what kinds of things to expect. Your vlogs have helped a lot, especially because I think we are around a similar age - most other people whose vlogs I've watched are like 12-15 and I'm almost 23 which is kinda old for surgery, apparently.

Do you have kyphosis as well or just scoliosis? I find that with my kyphosis it makes the recovery process a lot more difficult and painful. I’m going to try to make a video addressing what to expect, but what I can shortly say here is to expect to be puffy in the face when you wake up, dry throat, lots of IV’s and wires in your hands, and hopefully you wont be in too much pain. The recovery is going to be long and there will be days you think you can’t do it, but you can! Be prepared with good constipation medicine. I recommend a smooth move tea or prune juice. Its going to be hard to sleep for awhile and I ended up taking melatonin to help me fall asleep. You’re also going to need help doing normal things around the house and help getting out of bed. The recovery also depends on how long your fusion is. Hope you’re doing well! Feel free to ask anymore questions and I’ll always be here after your surgery as well (:

I have PCOS, endometriosis and scoliosis too, and I’m scheduled for fusion surgery on June 1st! I track my periods and of course I’m supposed to start on my surgery date, did you find it really difficult to deal with that during recovery?

Twice I had to deal with it and I found that my flow was not as heavy as it would have been! Just be prepared and bring whatever supplies you would usually need. I hope you have a female guardian that will be there to help you. Sometimes it can be hard to look down or wipe yourself, so I had my mom outside the bathroom just in case. It also depends on how far your fusion is, but for the most part my period was the last thing I was worried about! Good luck and lmk if you have any more questions (:

Wow you’re young! Recovery is easier when you’re young (: . I have heard that your curve could worsen with puberty. I’m doing as well as I can! Almost a year post-op and haven’t had too many problems. I feel back to “normal” and my energy levels are way better now.
