The guys chose to sing this in its original key--as sung by Cam. Just proves their lack of having a female in the group is no detriment--they just let their profundo BASS handle it! 🤣 LOVE the versatility of our amazingly talented fellas!! 🥰. (The addition of Chance and his lower range to the group has freed Tim up to showcase his amazing 5-octave range a lot more!) Every member of Home Free could absolutely be a solo ⭐ star ⭐ but their harmonies together are MAGIC!! ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️

We'll never lead you astray on HF videos/ songs. Thanks for waiting! (Still snickering at the comment that you couldn't wait to hear Tim's bass! 😂) Yes, watch the guys' hand movements. Tim self-directs; you can tell how low he's singing by how low his hand is. (He held his hand above his waist for Mayday. In Brothers In Arms, his arm is almost fully extended down.) Adam is usually animated, playing his invisible drum kit. Austin is a bundle of energy!

Tim can sing in a beautiful higher tenor voice along with Austin & Rob. And Chance can hit the lower bass notes when needed. And Adam did a fabulous job as always with his vocal percussion. This song is sung by a woman Cam, so they sung it in a higher key to match the original.

They did this in the same key as Cam did. You may have heard Tim's high range in the past without knowing it. Often when there is a harmony/background line higher than Austin's, Tim sings it. Other times it might be Adam. Love me Like That is one where Tim has the high(est) line in the background. in How Great Thou Art, every one of them, with the possible exception of Chance, contribute to the high BV tone. Bringing Chance in really opened up the doors for a variety of things - it freed Tim up to sing higher parts because Chance can easily cover the bass, it gives tremendous power when they BOTH are 'being basses", and he might not have quite as high an upper limit as Tim does, but he is a respectable tenor, too.

  • @gbryers

Home Free defies labels and this song lays it all out there. Almost as if they responded to people who think they only sing country by making this pop sounding song. And to those who think the guys can only sing in their set ranges...let's turn that idea on its head! So many switch ups in here. I know what you mean though about watching Adam. This is one you have to watch him because he does something I never noticed at first. It's the clap sounds. You hear claps but no one is clapping. But if you watch Adam, he is doing something at those moments when you hear the "claps". He is making that sound! It's funny but when Adam sings, he stands still but when he does his thing, he moves. It's the movements of his hands you have to watch to catch what he is doing.

Their From the Vault Episode 19 covers the making of this video. If you haven't seen any of that series it's what I call the camera behind the camera. At time you do see the director and Jimmy, their cameraman at work. You also see the goofy stuff that goes on while making another fabulous video. These videos are scheduled to be released one on the first Monday of the month but that don't always work. (Number 23 was supposed to drop last Tuesday, with Monday being a holiday, but no-go. Booooo!) If you haven't see their video for Crosby Stills & Nash's Helplessly Hoping yet please put in on your list. There's no beatboxing. Adam joins in on their wonderful harmonies. Avicii's Wake Me Up is another one of my favorites. You get kind of a closeup of Adam's mouth, jaw, and throat while he's doing his thing. And that's one video that you don't cut off when the song is over. They add a little funny thing at the end, something they're known for. Sometimes is a message for us, sometimes it's a little bit of their outtakes (like in Butts Remix/Medley). Always assume there's something there, with Home Free, Austin Brown, Time Foust, and VoicePlay.

When Chance left Steet Corner Symphony to replace Chris Rupp, the advantage was that Chance could take over the bass while Tim sang lead or joined in three part harmony with Austin and Rob. As you watch more Home Free you can tell when Chance or Tim joins in the tenor baritone trio, and the other does the lyric or rhythm bass. Tim and Chance will often switch within a song. Both Tim and Chance have relatively high ranges that blend well with the tenors. Also, while Chance only did bass with his former group, it also allows him to do lead. Neither bass does bass the same way. You can tell Chance sounds different from Tim. In addition, high level accapella bass singers tend to have large ranges, just like Avi Kaplan and Geoff Castellucci. About this performance. Home Free did it in the same key as Cam.

Chance carries the bass line for the whole song, as for Adam, there is a video of him doing a beatbox solo if you look hard enough

I don't know if you know but Chance is a actually a bass singer. But he usually sings baritone for Home Free. He was the bass for his last group Street Corner Symphony. Tim has a 5 octave range. Austin's has a 4 octave range. You should definitely check out Adam's drum solo. Enjoyed watching your reaction to this song. I loved the surprise on your face with the swap between Tim and Chance.

Glad you know enough about them now to be able to understand the switchup of hearing Tim's high notes and Chance's low bass notes. Before joining Home Free Chance was the bass in his old group "Street Corner Symphony" so he can sing bass and often does background bass and does the bass when Tim is singing lead. I love how they are so versatile, it's just amazing to me. When Tim and Chance sing harmony bass together, it seriously sounds like a church organ to me. A good example would be the Hymn song "How Great Thou Art" Also Adam does a few words of solo singing in the song.

Most people haven't heard Tim telling the story that in high school he was a tenor!!!! Adam Chance is doing the bass. In fact, he auditioned with Pentatonix when their original bass, Avi Kaplan, left in 2017. If you react to Home Free's 'Ring of Fire', Avi is featured in it. And usually people find Home Free from watching Pentatonix. Looking at your song lists, you may be going against the normal path. You need to watch Pentatonix. Most people start with their version of Hallelujah. But all of their songs are amazing. And both groups won different season of The Sing Off.

Thank you so much for your support! As for the ads, I get none of that even though I am "officially monetized". I only have two videos (not Home Free) up that have a revenue share agreement. But, the money does go to the band/ producer, so that's good. Again, thanks so much!

Perfect reaction!! HF at their finest!! I always smile and giggle before the song begins when the reactor says how much they're looking forward to hearing Tim's bass, when I know what's coming. 😄 Don't we all! And then there's Chance! Even though I was already familiar with his bass because I loved him in Street Corner Symphony, I was still shook! 😄 I'm so glad you waited until you were more familiar with the group so you could really enjoy the song in every way possible! Many don't and I always feel they cheat themselves. Cam gave them a shout-out for this. She saw them at the CMA's and knew it was coming so she was looking forward to it. A lot of the original artists have given them shout-outs for their covers which I think is very cool! - You're right about their videos being so engaging. I always have to watch the video twice when released. Once for the video, then another just to listen. LOL! One of their hardest to watch is "Brother". It's a beau~tiful song and they sing it so well, but the video is sooo fun!! You really need to play that one and turn away from the video to actually focus on the song - if you can!! 😄 Loved this reaction!!

I think your next Home Free video should be “When a Man Loves a Woman.” I listen to mostly Americana, but I think the most extraordinary performance I’ve ever heard is Tom Jones singing “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again” live on the Ed Sullivan Show. Long before auto tune and it’s perfect!

So glad you knew their voices as we’ve had new people check this out and they think Tim is the tenor and we have to say no, he’s the bass! It’s the old switcheroo with Tim singing tenor and Chance singing bass (although he can sing bass too). Chance can sing low but just not as low as Tim. This showcases everyone and it’s a good one. Yeah Tim was just showing some of his 5 octave range for ya. There’s a fun one called Snowglobe that Tim wrote where he sings high and it’s very good - maybe more appropriate for the Christmas season. Good reaction Ginger!!! Love your reactions! 🥰
