    Been there, way more exhausting than it looks, especially in winter. And nobody cares..just scream about when water will be on. That's a hard man there, salute

    Thats how you get it done. I do the same thing for work and love every minute of those situations. Most of the time the job is boring, but its that stuff there that keeps me doing it. 👍

    Great job, you did it hot, kept the customers in water, didn't need to take samples, you might want to take that sand bag and put it on top of your leak while digging it out

    The hole would fill with water in a heartbeat if he did that. In this case, the water spraying outside of the hole was the right decision.

    They couldn't shut it off for an hour? Wtf, that's a failure of infrastructure and management to be unable to shut off the water flow for repairs. I know everyone here is clapping for the dude and rightfully so but the customers should be able to go without water for an hour and the jobs shouldn't be this needlesly difficult for the workers involved.

    Granted these guys look like neophytes. A simple repair like this doesn’t require the water to be shut off. If you shut off the main you’re running the risk of back siphonage and contamination to the public drinking water

    That truck and machine shouldn't be anywhere near that hole. Saturated soil will let loose and that guy will have a lot more in that hole than just that leak.

    Why would you not turn some valves and shut the main down???

  • @parkerbirch1635

    @parkerbirch1635

    6 жыл бұрын

    Great question!! Most all times when repairing water pipes, turning off valves is the smart thing to do. In this case, if there's anyway to fix the pipe without tuning the water off completely, do it. With valves off the backflow of dirt and mud back into the pipe could contaminate it. Also people would now be completely without water. Valves can be left open just enough to keep positive pressure in the pipe. Occasionally it's better getting soaked for a short time, if the end justifies the means.

    Dan Keller I do understand what you are saying because I also work in the water utility industry... But from the looks of it that guy is probably like 5 foot in the ground with no ladder and no shoring to protect him if the walls collapse in burying him in the ground... as the water is spraying out it is eroding the dirt away which is very dangerous... anyways your right it's better to keep the customers with water and sometimes if you do completely shut a main down if it is not vented properly and turned on to fast it will probably break again up the street...

    I think I would be looking for some valves and y’all really need a vac truck because that leak would have taken us about 2 hours to fix. That’s dug out, sucked out, cleaned, clamped, sand, tamped, and then gravel and tamped.

    @@sonacphotos I work for a water company. If those businesses or house owners are to selfish that they can't be without water for a short amount of time and they don't care about the workers safety then hell with them. I have not and will not put my crew in danger because of hurt feelings. That's how you dont go home at the end of the day because of stupid work habits
