Exactly! He must have had a good track record as a problem solver (=less complaints=less financial output from the company). It also gave the company an excuse not to give him the raise he probably (regularly) thought he deserved. As a business owner, it is sometimes easier to deal with the cost effective problems, rather than lose the person who helps the bottom line, even if it affects those who are not as good and just complain about their co-workers.

The lady who complained about everyone wasting her time because SHE said she needed oxygen infuriated me. Nobody came up to her, singled her out and TOLD her that she "looked" like she would be the type to need oxygen. She said she needed oxygen because she has asthma. The airline would have been in serious trouble if she had experienced an asthma attack mid-flight. Then she left all her money with her daughter. Finally, she complained about the cost of the taxi and doctor visit. She's lucky everyone helped her. Even the doctor didn't charge her but she certainly 'pitched-a-fit' and not once did she express any gratitude for a problem she created

She got a rough lesson about how America works. Don’t look for attention because America sees dollar signs and you will not get on the plane. If everything was fine why did she complain in the first place! That probably cost her a couple hundred dollars for a little attention she felt she needed.

@@r_l_o6324 it really isn't about money in this instance. She was trying to board an international flight... the last thing anyone wants on a flight like that is a medical emergency. If she truly did need oxygen mid flight and they did not have it, she would be dead by the time they were able to divert somewhere to make an emergency landing for medical treatment. Imagine being another passenger on that flight and having to watch someone slowly suffocate to death like that. Imagine being cabin crew on that flight while one of the passengers in your care dies a slow death and you're completely helpless. I'm not normally one to defend big companies and corporations but like... sometimes the rules are just the rules for a good reason.

Quite true. I worked in a customer related field for over 10 years. I had a few times where I was late but the managers always forgot about it the next day because I did whatever I could to please the customers in the store. I guess part of the reason is the OTHER employees were like Phil: they couldn't care as long as they got their paychecks every other week. And every time my boss was replaced by a new one, the new manager was always shocked how many e-mails the store got from customers saying I put out the most effort at my job...

What are these people thinking bringing all those BIG stuffed animals to check-in? Did they really think these things would pass as hand luggage? Like the lady said: it's almost as tall as her! And of course no one has any money left to pay excess luggage...

That's because Hurricane Floyd hit North Carolina & flooded the entire state. We lost people in the storm & flood waters. We lost farm animals & crops. It was not a little storm. We lost roads & towns were under water for weeks I hope to never see another storm like it again. I worked during & after the Hurricane with my military unit. We saw things that no one should have to see, like helping to identify deceased people in their caskets so they could be reburied in their proper graves. Or pulling bodies out of vehicles that were sweeped off of the road due to raising floodwaters. It was horrible!!!

I understand what it's like. I lived in Oklahoma when MULTIPLE tornadoes swept through the town. Dozens were killed and that's not a number a weather reporter wants to hear but advance warning just isn't enough when you're being hit by one tornado after another. It was so bad that debris tragically slowed search and rescue parties. The fire department and police K-9 units had to slowly walk behind a bulldozer followed by the fire truck because the debris was pile SIX feet high in some neighborhoods. Even six months later, driving down I-35S, I passed through one neighborhood and it still looked like Hiroshima after the bomb was dropped.
