HOLE MORE PUTTS | The best putting drills to practice at home & what putters have been in my bag

Фильм және анимация

CHRONICLES OF A NOT YET CHAMPION GOLFER #92: MY PUTTING STROKE // How to practice putting at home to improve set up, check start line and strike.
This week, is all about putting. It's become one of the strongest areas of my game. These are my favourite practice drills to work on at home and cover what I think are the most important areas of the putting stroke; consistency of set up, strike and start line.
I've collected a few putters over the years too including Scotty Cameron and Odyssey putters so I'll do a kind of what's in my bag, PUTTER EDITION! I'll finish it up with a putting challenge just to make sure I can do what I'm talking about. This is the most important part of my practice and will help you build confidence to hole more putts, more often.
Thanks for watching. See You Next Tuesday.

    Putting is surely the quickest way to drop shots off your Handicap. I think I saw a quote from Phil Kenyon that said something along the lines of “can your normal golfer swing it like a tour pro, probably not, could they putt like one, definitely” it’s easier to work on moving a putter 2 foot rather than swinging a club full.

    Definitely Chris, makes so much sense and doesn't need massive changes to take shots off.

    Alex, Great putting tips, it motivated me to buy Visio Golf T-Line Putting Start Line Trainer on Ebay. I already have the Visio matt and that has helped a lot. I like the Circle T Tour Cameron Buttonback., several years ago I picked up a set of TaylorMade 320 irons at a boot sale for £20 in mint condition and put them on Ebay and got a message from a guy in the States that I bought a few Tour Issue items from. He is friends with Joey Sindelar who was looking for a set so I sent them to him and he won I think it was around $1.5 Million that year playing with them and he sent me a fantastic Circle T Bullseye putter as a thank you. That is a really nice putter you have there but I not so sure about the green paint infill. Are you going to get it refurbished?

    For me, watching you during this lockdown has highlighted one major thing. I need a garage with a high enough roof for a full swing set up and net! Unfortunately around Warrington, there's not much on the market at a price I'm happy with! 🙈 Might have to buy a new house and build my own garage, to my specs 😂😂😂

    Nice collection of putters. It took me a long time to find my current putter - Odyssey - as I felt like I was cheating on em if I didn't give it a chance! Ha! But comfort and belief over the putt is essential. A good putter feels "right" whether thats alignment weight path contact off face length. I now practice on a steel metre ruler. Great tips. Cheers

    Good stuff, Al. If nothing else, this lockdown has finally settled the debate in my head about using a line on the ball or not. For whatever reason I can't line the line up with the hole. As I'm holing tons of four and five foot putts, I should be going on to the course full of optimism, but as I'm 'pessimistic Del' rather than positive Al, I have my doubts,😁

  • @alexevansgolf9348

    @alexevansgolf9348

    Yea the line has to match up with how you see it otherwise it will only confuse the issue. Got to know you hole those putts consistently and just trust it. easier said than done at times though Derek

    I used to find lining the ball up with the line difficult but there is a cool ball marker that I found which has helped a ton. It's called the Deadaim ball marker if you are interested. You might find it useful.

    hey mate, brillliant video, once again! just with regards to the mat you're using. do you have enough of an opinion on other mats / training aids to say that the puttout one is the best, or is it simply the one you've got? I been using a 6ft piece of flat steel that's about 1 inch wide to practice putting on, but i think it's kinda soul crushingly hard tho. lol especially just on the hallway carpet that i'm not 100% convinced is completely level.

    Great vid Al, just bought my first Scotty with plenty of time to try and get used to it. Went for a 2010 California Monterey because I love the place and chucked a pistolini grip on him. Just out of interest what weights are in your/biffs putter? Do you prefer a lighter of heavier putter?

  • @alexevansgolf9348

    @alexevansgolf9348

    I look at under 30 average as being decent but nearer to 29. A lot of it depends on how many greens you hit though and average proximity to the hole. If you hot 15 greens per round but are 30ft away, then 32 putts is good!

    Alright? - I've never been much of a fan of Scotty putters, I mean, they're OK, but nothing special ... BUT .. I did borrow a Newport Teryllium when it 1st came out from by local Pro and holed literally everything with it .. sadly I had to give it back and couldn't afford one of my own at the time ... I might just seek out a second hand one or one of the re-issue jobbies and get it re-furbed :) Also .. masking tape is great to used instead of blu-tac.
