I run the same setup.. Only I put a float with a hole through it on one end of the hula hoop. Before I added the float, the hula hoop would sink and if the wind was blowing, there would be too much tension on the underwater hoop. This way it stays at the surface for easy retrieval.

Looks like a lot of fun brother. Enjoyed the tip and video. We like fishing Ray Hubbard under Hwy 66 or I30. Hwy 66 has a free boat ramp. Great place to put in. See ya out there. 👍

I saw that setup on Lake Fork years ago. When I started really getting into crappie fishing, I found hula hoop at Dollar general. Mine is built the same, but on the caribiner end, I put a float like people use on wind socks. That way, I can toss it around the column, and if I can't reach it, I push it around now that it floats. easy.

Hula hoop is cheap, it’s better with irrigation piping. That black irrigation pipe will hold its shape and never Crease.

That’s a good idea! I use to use a retractable laundry clothes line and replaced it with 550 paracord then added a carabiner on the end with ~6” pool noodle too. I use to wrap myself on the big bridge columns like at Hickory Creek near I-35 by letting the pool noodle end float and I would paddle around the other side of the bridge to grab the carabiner/pool noodle end. Your idea looks a lot easier though.

great gadget.... with my kayak I had been using a long line with a clip, run thru a short piece of pool noodle...throw it out past the piling ...slack line it out and then pedal around the piling to the "float" and clip on to a form a loop this method looks easier..... with a kayak you have to be careful not to ANCHOR down too tight to a piling, one big power boat jerk with a tidal wave wake and you're in big trouble... always be able to disconnect quick just in case DITCH PICKLE......heard guys as far away as Houston use the term.....

If there’s a bolt or something like that sticking out try a pair of Vice-grips. Exchange the adjustment screw for an eyebolt, then clamp the vice-grips on whatever is available on the pile and attach a rope to the eyebolt. The vice-grips don’t take much room and may be useful in other situations even if they can’t be used on a specific pile.

Do the same but with pvc pipe. Less flex and use as a hook if the wind is up. Just heat the pvc up and i have a big tree i bent it around.
