In the closing days of the Tokugawa shogunate (end of Edo era), the Hokushin Itto Ryu was considered to be the newest one amongst the hundreds of different Kobudo schools, founded around 1820.
The main characteristics of this school is to focus on very direct and fast techniques, cutting the opponents centerline and determine the duel with tsuki-waza. Although there exists a curriculum of techniques without weapons, emphasized are the teachings with the katana (sword) and wakizashi (short sword).
