I was told that the referee sided with germany and cheated in this game. Pakistanis were very angry and misbehaved during the ceremony. After this game the Germans could not beat Pakistan for another 10 years. Such was the awesomeness of pakistan hocket in the late 70s and early 80s

I was just 8years old and saw match on tv and remember one name as bomgard, pakistan missing chances as one penalty strock and umpiring was so poor and favoring in the west Germany. some of Pakistanis players show off their unhppines and angers which cause of ban them from international matches 2years. pakistan had beaten india in semifinal well.

Well done Pakistan team. The level of self respect went missing from our nation for past few decades.

biased umpires did cost Pakistan the gold but that should have been handled in a professional manner. as a result of this insult, Pakistan was first banned for life from Olympics but later on after a written apology from our side, the ban was reduced to just two years.

Asad Malik was a splendid,dreaded forward in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics along with the magnificent left in Harpal Kaushik of India. I have only read about Malik. I was fortunate to witness the prowess of Islauddin,Shanaz Shikh and Samiullah when the Asian 11 toured India in 1974.

@zia khan The Pakistani team were able to finish this match with 11 players with the help of the referees, I’d say. Today, they would have 2 players sent off.

As a 18 year UK based spectator was there to watch the final and yes poor umpiring bordering on biased umpiring cost Pakistan but having written that it was very unsporting and not dignified act by the Pakistani players during the medal ceremony .

Hey dude dont talk this crap to me looks like your country of Origin is India if that so then what about your country before the start of the Rio Olympics couple of your players were failed on doop test and send back home thats true that Pakistan has not taken any Olympics medals in other sports after 1988 is becasue there is no support for any other game accept cricket becasue of politics and funds but what about your country which is 3 times bigger than ours didn't won any Medal in Olympic Hockey since 1972 I don't count 1980 Moscow Olympic becasue all major teams like Pakistan, Germany, Australia and Netherlands were missing and other countries were not strong that could stop India to secure a Gold so if you don't know the history then don't talk and its better for you to keep quite.

Shahrukh Faheem One can clearly see you are one of the crybabies mentioned by pacma66. It’s disastrous misjudgment to say the referee cheated on you - the opposite is true. Referee often failed to punish Pakistani foul play. Shortly before time he even sent off a German player who was actually beaten on his hand by a Pakistani hockey stick. So much for ‘bad refereeing’ - had the referee been impartial, Pakistan wouldn’t have finished the game with the full number of players. So be content with Pakistan having been banned for just 18 months then for misbehaviour.

Mmmmmm I still don't understand why the Pakistani goal was disallowed. ...What was the German keeper saying to the umpire .something not right in my view .Was it because the Europeans were fed up with Asian domination in previous Olympics. I'm English and have been playing for 48 years .But I would have been pissed off with the result in this game .Umpires were totally incompetent.

When I was young late 70,s playing hocky, then if refree or opposit team played unfairlly so we call trems "german game, due to that olymic hocky final in munchin germny
