In addition, the Galen leather slowly stretches as you use it, bit by bit, so wonderfully. My Weeks is FAT w stickers, and so is my Cousin Avec, which is filled with a ton of ephemera, stickers, etc, and Galen leather accommodates them so amazingly.

Thanks for your review. Booth covers look gorgeous. The weeks cover is designed for a weeks without a clear cover. Regarding the pattern alignment (from their homepage) “Pattern alignment varies by product! The patterned fabric has not been aligned to a specific layout, so the placement of each design will vary by product”. It’s not Hobonichi who didn’t make a proper quality control. They are very good at giving you information about the products to help you make a decision that matches your expectations (in my opinion).

I am not talking about where the items are on the product, but the fact that the fabric veers off diagonally. It isn’t “straight”. I’ve seen lots of these around and no one else has one where it looks like someone didn’t make sure the fabric was straight before they sewed it together.

Oh I see. That’s unfortunate! The “unstraight” fabric on zip covers occurs quite frequently and it looks a bit weird. As you said; I never saw a forbidden fruit cover with unstraight fabric. I got a Tweed cover (zip) for 2022 and that one is a bit crooked, but even the product picture was a bit like that so I was prepared. I’m sure Hobonichi will send you a replacement.

When I first got my Galen I felt it was too tall but now I don’t even notice. I love it and use it as my EDC.

Thanks for doing this Sam! I haven’t yet purchased a Galen weeks and this helped. The height is what’s stopping me. I do feel the tightness of my b6 undyed zip with my Aura Estelle daily planner, which I haven’t even started. It’s for 2022. I feel like their zippered covers would be better for a half year size stalogy or hobo avec, etc.

Thanks for the review! I am so glad you showed the forbidden fruit. I had been watching it on Amazon but I hesitated due to the price. After seeing yours I am glad I waited. The print is beautiful but I would not be able to get past the way the print alignment is. It would bother me too, everytime I would use it. Knowing how snug the fit is is helpful also. I prefer to leave the plastic cover on mine. My moterm allows for that just fine so I will stay put for now. I also agree about the height of the Galen leather cover. That would bug me too. I’m obsessed with my zippered cover for the weeks as I use as a wallet. My other weeks are fine in my chic sparrow and Moterm weeks covers. I will never go back to a normal cover for my weeks wallet! I have the crazy horse weeks cover that is not a zipper cover and it is waaay bigger than the weeks which bugged me and why I never used it. I have the forbidden fruit cover and it is sooooo lovely and easy to keep clean.

I always put my Weeks in the back pocket and used the flap as a secretarial pocket. And I never used the cover on cover with a leather case too. It was just too much.

I just like to protect the fabric on the Weeks!

I have the Galen Mega Weeks Cover (with no zipper) and appreciate the bit of extra height. The leather has formed nicely around the notebook and I don’t worry about my pages getting damaged. I’d be nervous especially if it had a tighter fit and a zipper that my notebook corners and fragile page edges would be caught up in the teeth and ruined. Sorry you didn’t find the Cinderella slipper for your weeks that you were looking for!

Galen Leather makes beautiful products but that height has been why I’ve passed on that particular cover. I love the idea of a zip cover but neither seem to be made for “stuffers”. Maybe for pen-only people? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I do love how my Weeks looks in my Gillio when it gets fat!❤️

I paid about $150 for mine shipped which is the lowest I’ve seen. Unfortunately even with the new one with better alignment, I’m just not a fan with the Mega. If you’d like pictures of mine, I’m going to be listing it for what I paid.

I had so much expectations from the Galen Leather one and the leather is indeed beautiful. I don’t have problem with the height either but the tightness drives me crazy! I was thinking of using it as wallet, but I just can’t manage it with my weeks and my cards and cash! I guess I’ll have to get another cover eventually.

The pocket you tried to fit your Weeks Mega in on the Forbidden Fruit was the smaller of the two pockets on that side. It will (with some maneuvering) fit in the larger back pocket with a CoC on it, but it's still a tight fit. I got Forbidden Fruit for the same reason; I was traveling and had some concerns about things slipping out of my Appunto Slim, and I'd coveted FF since last year when I wasn't in a Weeks. I'm sorry your fabric was wonky! I don't think I noticed on mine; I was too excited to have it. I passed on Galen Leather for the same reasons you don't like it: it's just too tall!

I love your galen leather cover. But I can't find anywhere in Singapore to buy it.

The Galen will stretch some. But it should sit a little better in It slid in the slip pocket vs in the secretarial pocket since that lays it closer to the spine. That balances the height as well and allows access to the secretarial pocket. The hobo cover is designed for without the CoC since for them it’s kind of a one or the other cover situation. But I’m sure with little wiggle it’ll fit and stretch a bit. Sorry it wasn’t love.

On the hunt for the hobonichi forbidden fruit but it seems impossible to find these days! It’s so stunning!

It really is. I found it too tight and parted with mine not long after getting it.

Oh man. Postage to Australia… If we order anything from the US it’s about 2-3 weeks just getting out of the country, then the same again getting here and then it goes through quarantine… I just got my order from JetPens about 4-ish weeks after ordering and they had it shipped basically same day. Ordering Hobonichi direct from them in Japan takes about 3 weeks. Global postage right now is insane! I think DHL(?) has also stopped delivering to our little corner of the world completely right now 😭

I have this but not the zippered and it’s amazing still after 2 years

I’m sad to hear about your Hobonichi cover having the defect. I learned the same lesson with Amazon Japan shipping this year. They now have 2 options for shipping to the US. The lightly more expensive one is DHL. The orders default to the cheaper/slower so I have to be careful to pay attention when ordering. Love your honest reviews.

Love the Galen cover but the contrast stitching on the outside is something I don't like 😯 I ordered an old cover of the Hobonichi line from 2019 with a colourful pattern that will be great for spring and summer 😍 Hope it will be in perfect condition 🙈🙏🏻

I'm so sad for you!!! Wish you had a zipper for your trip you loved... The Length of the Gallen doesn't put me off. I like it for protecting my Weeks from getting zipped up and torn. My EDC backpack is huge and holds any of my planner/ journals.I will be looking into the mega weeks Gallen and that color is gorgeous!!! Are you sure that the hobonichi one is not a counterfeit?

I can‘t work with zip covers… they always seem to be too tight on my planners. I would probably just have to break them in somehow but on the way there I just get so annoyed and end up using something else… :)

I just love your Fozzy Bear cover, he is my favorite muppet. I should have ordered the Galen Leather before July this year, now we have to pay too much to get things from Turkey in the EU. I think some of the member states are happy that Turkey and Norway are now being taxed and getting customs clearance charges. There used to be trade agreements but now they just went and cancelled them all. Ukraine is suffering from this also, but there was no trade agreement because the dragging of the feet that the EU member states are doing in recognizing their applications (Turkey and Ukraine), and Norway had a Scandinavian agreement. With Brexit, now the UK is an issue. So now all the sticker shops and beading shops now get an extra customs tax. I love my hobonichi weeks wallet. I want the Clementine one but I keep delaying ordering it. The Forbidden Fruit is my favorite one, but I only have two of them. With the liberty fabrics they are always a bit wonky. I do not use a cover on cover in the wallets, but I have gotten it to fix. I usually just lay my weeks inside of it because of the bend of the back cover. I like my weeks to still look like books. Also where can they cut the fabric, if they made the flower full, then you cut the pheasants tail feathers. The patterns are just usually too busy, and each cut is unique. It is also real leather inside the cover. Only the Mina Peron are fake leather. Others may be fabric, but you can read it in the specifications. Also remember only God is perfect, and the uniqueness of your wallet is something special. Just a little mindshift. In Native American spirituality we make sure there is something imperfect about our work, that way we keep out the evil spirits.

Trust me, it veers off crooked, it doesn’t align on the spine at all. I even showed it to my husband without saying anything to make sure I wasn’t crazy.

@@samplans you are not crazy at all. I guess I just don’t care about the fabric being offset and it is perfectly fine that you do. These products are very expensive and hard to get sometimes and you should expect them to be well-made for what you have paid. I guess it’s just harder for me to make distinctions in patterns and maybe that’s something off with my spatial awareness or something. I hope you can find a way to be happy with it, but if not you will have NO trouble selling it;)

Definitely designed to NOT have the cover on cover on it. I love mine and very much enjoy it.

Both are tight, plus heaven forbid you actually use the card pockets too😡. Frustrating. Geeze just ad 1/4 in so it can be user friendly.
