    I have a sticker shop, and yet I 100% agree to everything you said!!! I think it is important to have people from the planning community putting it out there. While I have not entered a no buy/low buy per se, I have been abandoning an absolute multitude of carts without checking out. I started monitoring my feelings whenever I have the impulse to shop AND (after the madness of 2023) I am forbidding myself from planner hopping, unless I am playing with stuff I already have out of boredom. When I feel unsatisfied with my planners/journals, I remind myself that I know this works for me, buying different items won't solve it. I tell myself: Do you want to feel organized? Do you want to save those memories? You already have your favourite tools, the "peace" aspect is down to you!

    I've added a step to your "delayed checkout". I removed all my payment info from accounts (Amazon, etc.) so I can't just click order/pay: I have to get up, find my card, and enter all the info. Also, number five: absolutely! I think this is the video we all needed as the countdown to planner release dates begins; thanks!

    That’s a really good idea, and one I’ve considered! I leave most of my cards at home, so I’ve been a little hesitant to do this one, as I have always seemed to “need” a number with no way to get to my card. 😅

    Starting a low buy has taught a very difficult lesson. I do not have to have happy mail weekly. I couldn't believe how difficult it was for me to get used to not having mail. I realized then that it was an addiction to things. Same feeling I had years ago when I started Keto/24hr fasting, it was hard in the beginning but then there was this freedom of not needing to eat all day. I love this quote that Steve Jobs stated (Not sure of the original quote) "Eat your food as your medicine otherwise you have to eat medicine as your food." This has proved to be true in my life when I started Keto. I was able to get off a certain med and I praise God for leading me in this direction. Thank you for sharing Sam and you look fantastic!

  • @samplans

    @samplans

    Yes, it was a little high every time the mail came, and it was totally unnecessary. I totally agree with the quote about our food, just changing my diet from SAD has fixed so many issues I was dealing with. Oh, and thank you, my friend. That means a lot!

    Thank you for this video. I am in a planner buying frenzy. I bought already three ring planners and still I keep buying more , when I already have everything I need. Thank you for making this video you are right about everything. I keep saying thank you God for all the blessings of being able to buy planners and everything else that comes along but I have to stop doing this. You are so right about over spending. I think we all at some point are looking for things to make us happy when in reality all what we need is to look within ourselves and see what are we lacking and are trying to fill that empty space of our lives with. Thank you for sharing.

    I think being more mindful of God’s place in our life is also important. If I worry more about Him I’ll worry less about planners. Worry probably isn’t the right word, but I think you get it.

    I’ve done a no-buy last year with an exception of the Halloween releases. This year I’ve used a lot of my stash, but I want to still use what I already have. So I’m doing a low-buy-slowly replacing what I’ve used in a 3:1 ratio. 3 used to 1 new buy. It’s been working very great for me!

    Sam, I attempted the no buy also......notice the word "attempted"........I also learned that just because it's neat or pretty or I haven't seen one like it before doesn't have to mean that I buy it. I would not consider your no buy a fail. You have learned a BUNCH of great things about yourself. Once you have that awareness you can continue to work on it. You might have never found these 5 things you learned had you not given it a go. I still say great job!! Look at how far you have come. I'm proud of you for sharing this journey. You have connected with so many people who struggle just like you. That means that we are not "alone" in our struggles. :) Thanks again.

    Agree 100% on all of this. I need to just put it into practice :) I'm in the midst of cleaning out my hoard and have sold a lot over the past couple of weeks but it's a struggle getting rid of stuff. Lately what has been helping me is when I go to buy something I think to myself am I willing to go through the pains to sell this down the road when I get bored with it? Sometimes that helps me not click the add to cart button and if all else fails I will watch an episode of hoarders lol

    Great helpful video Sam! I struggle with emotional buying and I have a basement full of things that are brand new I never even opened. I agree that putting items in your cart online and waiting a day or two is a great strategy because I find that I end up not buying them after I sit on it awhile and your right about the just because its pretty doesn't mean I have to have it. I always thought having a new planner system would some how motivate me to do the cleaning, to help me to lose the weight but time and time again it never did and now i have a room full of different planners or covers that I thought would somehow change my life and they didn't. I don't know the answer but I do know the problems buying all the things has caused for me. Thank you for sharing i feel this video will be helpful to others.

    I relate to this so much, and I’ve made similar comments on some of your other videos. For me it’s the planner stuff. I have tried so many sizes and styles and I just keep going back to an A5 Stalogy or similar size book (Sterling ink, wonderland 222, etc.). I want rings to work because I like the idea of sections that I see other people use, but honestly I never use those sections in the planner because I may already be doing something similar electronically (finances for example, I use spreadsheets so that I don’t have to re-write things each month). I think I look at other peoples systems and want it to work for me until I realize that I am not living their life so why would their system work for me? I am an empty nester so someone with younger kids has a different life than I do. Now I sit here with planner covers that I should list to sell, but I don’t even want the hassle of taking all the pics and posting 😂. I wish there was a planner garage sale…kind of like a craft show where you set up a table with all of your goods and you sell what you can in a day, and then I’d donate the rest 😂

    Yes, I totally agree. We don’t have a busy life (and I prefer it that way) so I need to have a planner to keep track of appointments and keep a memory snippet. I fill my rings with sections and trackers and etc, but many of them seem to be less used. I thought the other day about just having rings with monthly, weekly and daily with some notes. Not exciting, but it would work I bet.

    Hi Sam! I am glad you have come to good terms with yourself about your "failed" no buy, and planner hopping, etc. It does happen to all of us. I know people like us with anxiety tend to over think everything, and be harsh on ourselves. lol You are so right about Facebook, KZread, IG, and all of social media kind of being a front. Most people don't post the "real". They post what is the prettiest, or the best of what they can. Which, I am not faulting that. That is normal behavior to some extent. What I am saying, and agreeing with you on, is that all of us need to remember that what see on on social media is not the whole story. Everyone has issues and problems going on in their lives. We are never the only one. lol It took me until about age 40 to really get all that sunk in good to my head, and to stop treating myself to badly. Comparison is so bad for our mental health. Or thinking we can't measure up to even our own goals. Of course I still get caught up in that sometimes. I am not saying I don't struggle. lol I am just glad when you do finish sorting through your feelings, and get ok with yourself. 😊 I am doing better this year about not buying as many stickers, or things I see just because they are cute. Your stories and reminders in your videos do help me. They stick in my mind. And, letting things sit in your cart really help me. Usually the next day I am so glad I didn't order. haha Your weight and health journey has been amazing over the past year! You are amazing, and I am sure have inspired a lot of people! I love the cover you have your Weeks in! I enjoy watching your seasons of life, and planners, and purses, and whatever else you bring to the table! Take care! 💗
