Hobbyking MX2 EPP 955mm - Overview and Maiden

Ойын-сауық

In this video I do a basic overview of the build, as well as cover all the electronics, the battery, prop and cog, then take it out for the maiden flight.
It flew well...didn't have to make any trim adjustments, nailed it with the setup, but it takes a little getting use too...Its all about throttle control with this plane...Hope you enjoy it.

    You don't need to use those heat shrink tubes for this set up, I also did not cut the back to mount the stabilizer by putting the trailing edge in first then the fixt edge

    Thanks W...Its been a long while trying to get over my shoulder injury, but its over now..IM BACK bitches!!! lol!! got a couple of nanotec 3s 35-70c lipos for my 450 pro power upgrade..cant wait to test it! setting up a plane (Bixler) for aerial video and eventually fpv....and am dying to convert my 500 heli to flybarless...along with trying to get familiar with this 3D plane...I kill it in the sim, but real world is soooo much more different.

    Why not use a 1500mAh pack to bring the CofG forward. Or even run 4S and and a lower kV motor?

    The Skywing manual - which this model is ... says to insert elevators BEFORE stabiliser ... that way you do not have to cut the rear rudder post to get all in. SF prop ? Personally I only use SF props on stuff that cruises around such as my RC Eagle ... for 3D - I prefer a proper E prop that is stiffer and gives better punch out / bite than a flexi SF. Given the model here suits 11x4.5SF ... I would suggest fitting the 11x5.5E prop instead.

    solentlifeuk. Thank you! After snapping 2 slow flier props on my EPP profile plane, I decided to temporarily use an E prop. The plane flies so well with this prop that I never replaced it, but I always wondered if I had reduced the ability of my plane doing this. I gather from your comment that an E prop is acceptable for a 3D plane. I only need more practice to increase my skill level.

    Very nice video. Did you had low rates on that dive where the elevator didn't respond well?

    Hi 3D Dad, its been a very long time since I flew the plane, but if memory serves me correctly, the lack of response was due to weak servos that couldn't handle the force, fortunately it all worked out.

    Hi Good review actually I got your tip for the CG because with my e propulsion 3s 1300 mah 45C battery I was still tail heavy . The nuts solved the issue. I installed an A2212 KV: 2200 Dimensions: 27.5 x 30mm Max Efficiency: 80% Max Efficiency Current: 4-10A (>75%) Current Capacity: 12A/60s No. Of Cells: 2-3 Li-Poly Weight: 47g And a Surpass 30A BEC V2 ESC. At the moment I do not have a 10 or 11 in inch prop I ordered them. In the mean time to test I put on an 8 x 6 E prop. But after just a few throttle ups on bench the ESC became very hot. Is due to the smaller prop? I did not use the rod system supplied I do not like it. I used push rod clamps. I also slice the back end for inserting the elevator and then glued it back in. Had some problems gluing the vertical stabilizer. The slot seemed to wide and ca was not getting the job done. UHU pour then did the job. One other thing that annoyed me is the wire feed from motor . If u leave them passing from top of the wood u cannot close the canopy good. I cut one side of the frame support. Removed some foam from under it , lifted it and pass the 3 motor wires then glued it back now the canopy can slot in correctly . I did not maiden it yet I’m concerned about the heat of the ESC. I’m waiting for recommended props see if this issue is settled before maiden . The plane even if a foamie looks good and also looks bigger then anticipated. I painted the canopy glass area black that just a cosmetic I like . Hopefully it flys good as seen in other videos.

    I also want to point out I replaced the servos since the video...the 12g $2 servos just couldn't handle the forces on the control surfaces when pushing the plane a bit...the nose dive is a perfect example of that. It also increased the weight in the rear of the plane (by a tiny bit), so I had to adjust the cg a little more forward with the lipo.

    Hi there, Thanks for making this video. It did help a little while building it since the manual has THE WORST set of blurry photos I’ve ever seen. You mention several things you did to place components and dead weights to achieve a desired CG but never mention what CG you were shooting for.. were you trying to achieve a CG that’s 85 to 90 mm back from the LE at the root as is called for in this crappy manual? Or is something else now believed to be a better CG target for this 3D / Acro plane?

  • @ivanb386

    @ivanb386

    Hi Jim.....Its been a very long time since I played with this plane ....If I recall the CG is a little front of the center of the wing...what ever it is, I did need to add weight to get it correct, this might have had to do with the weight of the motor I used, sorry I cant be more specific, as the plane has been in storage for quite some time. EDIT: I just downloaded the manual, and it states that the COG is 85-90 mm from the LE......this is where I would have have balanced it from, with it being slightly tail heavy.
