HobbyKing MX2 EPP 955mm 38" RC Plane First Look

Ғылым және технология

This is the rcvideoreviews.com first look at the HobbyKing MX2 3D EPP RC plane. My game plan is to use this plane to transition 3D sim skills to real RC planes.

Great approach to learning 3D without sacrificing your primary investment. Thanks for posting!

Hopefully this plane can get me over the hump of trying more advanced maneuvers on the nice planes.

Can't wait to see the maiden video. I've been looking at this plane off and on for a while. As usual, great video and I'll keep an eye out for an update.

I've been looking at this one for a few years but always just thought 'meh'. Now that I've got some built up planes I actually want to fly in 3D the whole concept of profile / epp bashers makes perfect sense to me. Honestly, I never got it before Robert said, "hey..uhm...they have these profile planes that will help you learn 3D" Then it hit me like a stack of bricks.

You will love this plane. It reminds me of my HK Yak 55 profile. It is my go-to model, even though I also have a PA XR52 and a Twisted Hobbys Veloxity. I tend to prefer foam... I fly much more relaxed, so will you. Your logic is perfect.

I'm a terror when I fly my Crash Test Hobby EPP wings. So I know EXACTLY what you're saying.

I've watched a lot of flight videos of this one and it seems to fly well. It should do what I need it to do.

You can use a plane like this to improve skills. It's a tough little buggar.

Oh Wow on the Airfoil I am getting one Alot more foil on this then twisted hobby some guys think landing gear wire is to thin bends easy great looking plane Oh yeah take measurements of front parts so you can 3d print some after your and your Fiend have some rough landings lol Take Care John

Thanks Robert--I'll try and do it justice. Appreciate your suggestion to consider a 3D trainer. You are the reason I got this plane. I'm pretty sure this one would hand launch easy and that gear would be super easy to replicate. In fact, it would be a bad idea to just trace the gear pattern out on paper right now :)

I really like this idea! Poor plane was called names straight out of the box, poor “Basher”. Oh and I have 2 Shirts!

AWESOME! Hope you like them. I like this idea too. You remember the Seinfeld episode when he was renting a car and told the agent, "you better give me the insurance cause I'm going to beat the $&*# out of this car"? That's how I feel about this poor little plane. This plane is going to get me over the hump.

This is great! I have a 3s set up from a brewster buffalo, specs are close. 2200 wouldn't fit would it?. To have something you don't care to crash and just fly! Hope to see tips, tricks, and glues used on the build. I didn't think I'd like this as much as I do. As long as you don't nose it in, airhammer, you can replace most parts. Great John. AirHammer out!!

I've read portions of the RCG thread and using a 2200 is generally frowned upon as too heavy. It'll fly, but the plane loses some of its 'floatiness' with a 2200 apparently. Hopefully I can keep the nose out of the dirt!

@@RCVideoReviews I thought as much, just wishful thinking. The 3s system, 2217/1200kv 40A esc. 10×5 too much?? 1200kv I mean. The buffalo was fast. I don't wanna rip the motor out. MG servos a must??

  • @RCVideoReviews

I don't think MG servos are a must. Maybe a 10x4.5sf on that 1200Kv would be ok. They recommend between 900-1000Kv so I don't think you'd blow it out with a 1200.

I had the same idea earlier this year. I wanted a cheap but tough plane to learn some “advanced” (for me) manoeuvres with. I didn’t like the MX2, I assumed that the plywood internals would be challenging to repair, & I read about a lack of ventilation causing problems with the ESC. Hopefully you solve this issue. I opted for the Hobby King Hummer. It’s a profile plane, EPP with only carbon rods for stiffening. The electronics have lots of ventilation being mounted on the outside. Oh! Yes, it also has airfoil wings of a similar shape to the MX2 & many balsa 3D aircraft. It has become my favourite plane to fly, partly because I worry less about crashing. PS. It’s cost less than the MX2.

Ventilation issues can be solved with a soldering iron on EPP foam and I won't have any problems using a scalpel on this plane to open up areas for repair (ply). I've never heard of the hummer. I'll check it out. Do they still sell it?

Yes, the Hummer is still on Hobby King’s website, although it’s on “backorder” again. I am so happy with this plane that I purchased 2nd kit. That was about a month ago when I saw it was “in stock” after going into “backorder” sometime after I received the 1st Hummer.

Yeah, That happens on this channel quite a bit. I have a knack for either buying the last one or finding low stock, or creating a run.
