HMCS Protecteur Boards Suspicious Somali Fishing Vessel | Warships | Spark

Ғылым және технология

HMCS Protecteur is an auxiliary oil replenisher. Her role in this mission is to provide food fuel and supplies to the warships in the international fleets. At 24,700 tonnes she was built to be a warehouse at sea, sailing through the theatre of operations with her ship’s crew performing two or three replenishments at sea daily.
A powerful naval task group has sailed east from ports in Canada to one of the most lawless maritime regions in the world: the Persian Gulf. As a part of a six-part HD documentary series, we follow the daily events and real-life stories of the brave men and women living and working to keep these warships running at a 100%.

I think SPARK bought the right to air the original program w/c was already recorded earlier years. That's why the music is very much similar to WestWood Studio's music theme for Command & Conquer series from 90's to early 2000s.

Fantastic vessel and I am sure the Asterix is even better. It seemed a bit slow on the anti-missile drill though ( maybe it was just the way it was presented. ) 100kph is about 600 mph = one mile per second so 40 miles distant is only 40 seconds away and the drill took long minutes. And did they really have to load the CWIS first or was that a simple weapons check?

As a retired USAF Small Arms Instructor I found the entire segment of their small arms training hard to watch. They just put the guns in their hands and tell them what to do and if, by some miracle of GOD they manage to hit the ocean and not bleed at the end they're good. Even in the Air Force we had 4 hours of classroom training before we set foot on the range and that is per gun. There is a 4 hour class for the rifle and a 4 hour class for the pistol. In the class they learn how to handle the gun, Loading, clearing, shooting, reloading, tactical reloading and immediate action for clearing jams. That girl never once had a good grip on the pistol and she covered herself and the camera man multiple times just trying to lock the slide to the rear. Worse yet, their "instructors" or RSO's on the range did NOTHING to help her or any of them for that matter. That program of training is in my opinion Criminally Negligent to say the least.

This is an auxiliary vessel. Just like in the RN, Fleet Auxiliary ships have civilian crews that are supplemented by naval personnel for defence and warfighting roles. The merchant sailors are usually naval officers that are approaching retirement or have other civilian jobs. The captain and most of the crew are probably non-military personnel and are not held to the same standard.
