HMCS Calgary Sets Sail For Persian Gulf | Warships | Spark

Ғылым және технология

HMCS Calgary is a helicopter carrying, guided-missile patrol frigate. She’s equipped with anti-submarine, anti-surface and anti-air warfare weapons, sensors and defences. Combined with state of the art damage control and machinery control systems, this frigate is one of the most advanced warship designs in the world.
A powerful naval task group has sailed east from ports in Canada to one of the most lawless maritime regions in the world: the Persian Gulf. As a part of a six-part HD documentary series, we follow the daily events and real-life stories of the brave men and women living and working to keep these warships running at a 100%.

    if they have a radio, and I think they are required to have one, English would be the very minimum on international waters. but they don't respond in their language, either. Because "F* da west", I guess. And because "What have the Romans ever done for us?" A shame, really.

  • @cgi2002

    @cgi2002

    2 жыл бұрын

    There is no legal requirement for you have a radio, or to respond to any vessel in international waters. Also no country has a legal right to board any other vessel (without the permission of the crew/owners) in international waters, it is an act of piracy. No ship in international waters can be boarded with the aim of preventing smuggling either without a specific UN embargo in place, as at that point they have not commited a crime. Their actions here were highly borderline, they can request contact, they can approach and request to board, they can't force a boarding (even if they other vessel is armed). They can't risk setting this prescient as the Iranians would respond by boarding and searching any and every ship in the area saying "you did it first". Basically it's a big show of force, but really has no legal power outside of a countries territorial waters, which every time there are arrests, that's were they are made. You can gather the evidence, but you can't actually legally arrest anyone until they cross into a countries borders and only then with that countries permission.

    So if I'm sailing in International waters, some organization decided that I can be boarded by Nations that they deem worthy, under the guise of preventing terrorism or some other excuse... Frankly, it's BS. I'm a US Marine veteran and the second someone decided they are going to stop me in international waters, I"ll treat them no differently than Somali pirates trying to board my vessel. Because in truth, it's not any different. They want to exert authority of someone else through force. It's sad that freedom can't even exist outside of national boundaries.

    As someone who’s from Canada, I can confidently say our military is shit.. our army is pretty decent, though few in numbers, but our navy is an absolute joke compared to what they were in ww2.. we kicked ass in ww2, but once the Cold War kicked off with Russia and the US lobbing nukes over our head, our government stopped building their own warships, and got really cozy with the Americans, relying on them to protect our borders .. the politicians of the time put their entire faith on the US and its ability to protect us .. our warships don’t even use AEGIS radar systems, even though we’re practically butt buddies when it comes to politics and the military tech, because they have the ability to track and lock on to ballistic missile threats.. the government doesn’t think it’s needed and won’t invest the money to equip our ships with these systems because we already have big brother US watching our skies, and the US doesn’t want Canada in that theatre of war
