Rising from below the galactic plane, Hive Fleet Leviathan has left thousands of once verdant worlds as nothing more than lifeless husks drifting in the void. But as the Imperium prepares for the 4th Tyrannic War, the true nature of Leviathan has become increasingly clear.

You are all mislead! The tyranids are the flesh of angels. They cannot be corrupted by chaos. Nor tempted by money, goods, power or lust of the body. They don't strife for individual might or glory. They are selfless. They are couragous, vigourous, willing to endure. Traits we would call noble. They even give hope to everyone. They purge the unholy. By consuming their sinful flesh. And from their flesh they are reborn. They are the angels, saints and sword of God in Warhammer 40k and they have come for the final days! 😁

If every single bullet, artillery shell and laser in the galaxy was fired and all hit a Tyranid, it will still not be enough.
The angle I always wish people would explore is the that the Tyranids are not a "race" at all, and should not be referred to in the plural: The Tyranid is an organism. One single organism on an incomprehensible scale, which is composed of complex motile organisms in much the same way that a human is composed of cells. Even bioforms as huge, complex and tactically significant as a hierophant biotitan are, from the Tyranid's perspective, just corpuscles. It is one single beast. An intergalactic amoeboid. To try and refer to it as a "species" is to make the fatal mistake of trying to compare it to humans. It is nothing so wholesome, nor so identifiable. It is the Predator of Galaxies, the biological Von Neumann Machine that will devour all the universe before starving to death. And it is either already far too vast to defeat, or it is now on the very edge of failure and extinction: there can be no middle ground.

There has been hundreds of books set in the universe, but events that actually change the galaxy at large are extremely rare. They like to establish the sense that the Empire could be destroyed at any moment but they cannot let the empire or any of the factions threatening the empire be completely defeated; doing so would mean the end of the war. With any story, you either end it or you don't. The third option is to change things but eventually it would become a very different story and you might lose your established audience.

To be fair to nids, their end game is actually fairly stable if you just tweak it a bit. Biomass is a catch all term for 'easy to digest'. Canonically they can devourer the rock of planets and gas of stars too. They don't pause for that stuff, and now actively avoid it, because that's where they are weakest. They don't want the biomass only, they're after the matter, and that's actually something almost any faction short of Chaos and the Orks will eventually be after, the bugs just went first. Lots of options are possible once they have time to pick the Galaxy clean, but most obvious would be their own version of a swarm of red dwarf dyson swarms, which I think is called a Kepler Swarm? I forget though. Eventually, this collective masses into a black hole, but between their massive psychic powers to tap the warp for even more power to top off their galaxy+ of material to work with, hunger is the least of their worries as they have an effectively infinite energy supply. Combined with their canonical gravity control ships in the Nautilus vessels, even without warp travel they effectively turn the Milky Way into a mobile swarm galaxy hub, protected inside a galaxy mass black hole that only they can ever leave, and simultaneously will always have energy sources for them to consume. Hell, take it on long term, and so long as they keep tapping the warp for extra power, it's a plan that can survive the heat death of the universe, and continue to rescue the bits of the universe even in the end, dragging it atom by atom into the swarm ball and reversing entropy by applying warp power. Viewed this way, the Tyranids are just a biological super AI trying to escape the death and save as much of the universe as it can with it.

Each time I come across a lore segment on Leviathan specifically, it’s somehow more terrifying than the last.
My headcanon is that the Tyranids were created by the last of the Old Ones as a last middle finger to the Necrons and an unhinged method of defeating Chaos. If they consume all life the Necrons are stuck in their shells forever, unable to die, but only able to fight one another over nothing. Chaos dies because neither Necrons or Tyranids nourish the ruinous powers.
This is why I play nids. Great video! Just one error: @ 12:31 should be saying Leviathan, not Behemoth.
You know it's a bad sign when Chaos suddenly intervenes on behalf of the Space Marines just because they want the honor of destroying them first. And with the Fourth Tyrannic War erupting, I can only imagine if Necrons, Eldar, Tau, and even the Leagues of Votann will suddenly get involved. With every defeat, the Tyranids learn. With every victory, they grow. Either way, it seems like the rest of the galaxy's forces are hard-pressed to stop them.

I would love to see which is better/faster at destroying a world, destroyer infected Necons or Tyranids? Also would love to see Flayed Ones wearing nid skin!
Chaos is probably the best answer to the nids, Kabanda was able to temporarily kill the entire hive mind with a psykic assualt, (it recovered but it was the worst it had ever been hurt) imagine if all 4 chaos gods get concerned their favorite galaxy is gonna get nommed, their combined psykic tomfoolery would shatter the shadow in the warp like glass
@thomassaxon8254

Not Kabanda. It was the Great Rift opening that did that. If that's what it takes to temporarily hurt the Hive Mind then the galaxy cannot afford to actually kill it through psychic means.

It wasn’t kabanda, it was the rift opening across the galaxy that temporarily shut it off. Also tyranids are a hard counter to chaos, just look at the fall of shadowbrink where the combined efforts of the chaos gods got bodied TWICE. Tyranids don’t have souls, no substance for chaos just like how no biological substance from chaos.

@@thomassaxon8254 the destruction of just one planet and it's warp canceling pylons (why cadia stood for so long) was enough to cause irreparable damage to the hive mind Remember pretty much the entire galaxy should be one giant eye of terror after so much warp nonsense, if chaos gets serious and knows where more pylons are... Also there is a scene in the Short Story "shadow of leviathan" where the God Emperor's light overpowers the hive mind. We don't know how much power the hive mind was putting in, but we know it is less hamstrung than the emperor fighting all 4 chaos gods and committing countless other miracles on a daily basis, and also felt actual hate towards Tigerius and wanted to assassinate him, so we may assume reasonablely it was trying real hard
@thomassaxon8254

@phil3751 not irreparable. It was damaged but did heal back. Everyone was hurt by the Great Rift including Chaos. And the Great Rift opening was due to more than just Cadia. It was also due to the other events like Magnus doing his thing and the bloodbath causing a psychic backlash from the Tyranid invasions. At the end of the day it's Warhammer the story is always going to be fluid on relative power levels. But that said the Hive Mind is always going be more powerful purely due to the number of minds it has.

I don't *think* there's any difference in psykers from species to species. It just comes down to their personal understanding of their psychic ability. Orcs aren't really aware of their weirdboyz being psychic, they're just y'know, weird. Humans on the other hand understand that psykers have some sort of connection to the warp, even if most don't fully understand the extent of the link. But at the end of the day, there's no difference between an ork psyker, an eldar psyker or a human psyker. They're all drawing their power from the same source.

Depends on the Hive Fleet, if it's Cronos then yeah the Tyranids have the advantage.
@randominternetguy8735
11 ай бұрын
They would perform excellently. Death Guard daemon engines are resilient and not consumable to Nids, as well as highly resistant to acid-based weaponry. It's likely their rot would affect the Nids pretty bad. Fliers like Heldrakes would be lethal to any airborne specimens, due to their flame-based weaponry. Same goes for Forgefiends, Maulerfiends, Defilers, etc.

Is there a chance if a hive fleet will reach terra that the legions to chaos will deploy to defend it? OR would they think they are safe in the warp and largely don't care.
@randominternetguy8735

The legions of Chaos will do one of two things: 1. Take advantage of the disarray and attempt to take over Terra 2. Stay well away, because it's not a good idea to put yourself in the path of a Hive Fleet I would go with 2. and so would all rational Chaos and traitor legions, but you may get the odd few like World Eaters who would love the bloodshed and Alpha Legion up to their usual fuckery.

@randominternetguy8735 I think you've set up a false dichotomy. The main reason I think this is because neither option takes into account that chaos *needs* humanity, and abandoning the imperium to the tyranids means the chaos gods lose the strongest influence on their power within the warp. I think option 3 is that the chaos gods would throw all they have at the tyranids, every daemon, every cultists, every warband, everything. They may not come directly to the defense of Terra, but they will begin to keep the Tyranids from overwhelming it, and allow for the imperium to scrape out a victory, barely, because Chaos' goal isn't to be victorious, it's to feed the war that keeps it in power.
@randominternetguy8735

@@Thoron_of_Neto That's true, but you must remember that some traitor Space Marine legions aren't even dedicated Chaos worshippers at all, like the Iron Warriors or Night Lords - caring more about the destruction of the Imperium than sustaining the Dark Gods. Perhaps they could hold some sway.

Ok, but have they tried a huge space-sized can of bugspray with a constant stream of oxygen, promethium and hellfire?
12:31 "Behemoth", I think that was a mistake...you mean "Leviathan" as Behemoth and Kraken were already talked about earlier in the video.
its not that humans cant think in 3d that made the invasion from the bottom so jarring its that every fight so far has been from inside the galaxy, so on the galactic plane warp travel itself, even if it doesnt follow dimensions at all, is still on the galactic plane combine that with intergalactic invasions coming from a diffrent side would mean they would need a very diffrent starting point its not peoples inability to imagine it its that it is unimaginable

For all we know the Tyranids we see could be the last of their race. It's only implied albeit heavily that the Galaxy is surrounded. @@scinary7052 Yeah, I was just thinking there that a few tonnes of antimatter would probably settle the Tyranids down for a while. 1 kg of antimatter annihilates 1 kg of regular matter, releasing the euivalent of a little under 43 megatons of TNT. For comparison, the largest nuclear bomb ever detonated (the Tsar Bomba) was in the 50 megaton range. With the proper technology, gathering a few tonnes of antimatter would easily be within the reach of a galactic superpower like the Imperium of Man. The problem is though they don't have that kind of technology, and nobody can research it without the Mechanicus using their internal organs as spare servitor parts.
