Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

I remember seeing the video on NY Hot Tacks like 3-4 weeks in a row backnin 86 and I finally called the local radio station in DC to play it so I could record it because it was only on Wax in my local record store and I had my 1st Sony Walkman...I was maybe in 3rd grade at the time but already had The Krush Groove Soundtrack, LL's Radio, U.TF.O.'s Skeezer Pleezer and Run DMC's King of Rock and Raising Hell all on cassette.
Howie Tee was grossy underrated

Flatbush Legend
Best producer ever. My opinion. Yo How! A few points: 1. Everything he said was absolutely fact. 2. UTFO (known as UFO back then) did choose not to battle us (The Sure Shot 4 mc's) and Howie Tee (Count Disco) 3. Full Force did not discover Howie, just like Christopher Columbus....you know what Im sayin'. He was already THERE! 4. Howie was being very kind and a professional because he left out a few shady situations he had to endure in the music biz. 5. The rap for Get Tough by the CD 3 was written by Tyrone (Ringmaster Little Tee) Johnson. 6. Dash (the 3rd rapper on Get Tough) was from a rival crew - DJ Professor Paul (Pinnock) and the Sinister 6 (from Vanderveer). 7. Carlos Prince Unique was also the Sure Shot 4's manager and went on to join DJ Todd Terry's House Music group Royal House (Can you feel it?) 8. East Flatbush = Mad talent 9. Nuff Said. 10. Grand Gusto Domino (leader of the Sure Shot 4 mcs) out!

Great interview. Been listening to Hitman Howie T since 83 with CD111. Howie said “If you keep fronting imma show you why”. Classic line from Bang Zoom Real Roxanne.
homie beats were dope.... especially Special Eds Joint.
Brooklyn's own...Howie Tee 👊 East Flatbush
One of the top producers of the golden era of hip hop. Thank you Soren for this interview, as well as giving our legends their flowers. Appreciate your channel and all of your content. Peace
Man, I had NO idea Hitman Howie Tee was so integral to mid-80s hip hop. This is why I keep coming back here.
Omg, you pulled it off, salute Soren I was waiting for this!!! You the king man lol. This man revolutionized sampling especially on and the winner is with Chubb rock.
I remember about 2 years ago I posted Howie’s picture on FB and asked who is he, no one responded, only with wrong names. This man is Top 10 most definitely in my book. Chubb, Ed and Shawn just to name a few.
Whistle was one of the Greatest groups of the 80s from the mind of Kangol Kid. I didn't even know that was his group until he said it on Sway a few years ago. Transformation is probably one of the best cassette tapes I held in my hands because Whistle was making their transition from Hip Hop to R&B. So on side A, was all raps , and on side B was all singing. Once again, the genius of Kangol Kid (R.I.P.)

Great interview, how is a cool dude and extraordinary DJ, I ran with the crew back then, was there for the creation and formation of the sure shot 4, Great times, thanks Howie for letting me be down by law. Howie tee, count disco, east Flatbush, sure shot 4 forever.
Howie mentioning about the battling for equipment was how we used to do it.
Dope. He answered a lot. There should be a part 2 just for his production. He was extremely innovative & unique on several cuts. Just look at "sampling" Big Beat for Roxanne Roxanne in 84. No one was really doing that. There was tape loop before this and the sampling onslaught of 86. Although just his idea and his equipment, that was a groundbreaking thing attached to a monumental song.
The Voice in the Mirror, Little Shawn is a classic, no fillers. Special Ed, Youngest in Charge was second to none also. Howie Tee deserve way more shine than he gets, a lot more!!
When I was a kid with my first boom box (Emerson dual cassette), one of the first hip hop joints I fell in love with was "Success" by CD III. It wasn't until I was in my 40s that I found out that when they said "H. T." in the song, they were talking about Howie Tee!!! If you haven't heard that song, check it out. One of the first rap songs with a positive message that actually sounded GREAT!

Hitman howie t and jazzy Jeff are the best two dj’s from back in the days. They didn’t just play records they would use the turntables as musical instruments and create all sorts of exciting music.

Howie Tee and Jeff had a smiliar sound, very clean and precise and rhythmic swing and very musical transformer scratches. I wish HT did a bit more scratching on record, he did a great set at UK Fresh 86 though.
21 gun salute for bringin da hitman out. one of da most undermentioned...
East Flatbush legend big up your self rude boy 💥💯💯💯💯

Another great interview Soren! Howie Tee rarely makes interviews, or at all. Glad you are getting these legends to share their experiences.
GREAT INTERVIEW MR SOREN BAKER WITH THE LEGENDARY HITMAN HOWIE TEE!!!!
Howie Tee has a Major part of early Hip Hop, His production was always good. Get Tuff has to be one of my top 10 favorite rap songs
Howie was so underrated!! Yo Soren, you gotta get DJ Doc (Ivan Rodriguez) man he was the man in the 1980s!! You doin a good job love these videos and these legends getting their shine they deserve it!! I love them all
This is much better. High quality guest & longer length interviews. 😎👌
Great Interview OG HITMAN HOWIE TEE ..I'm Still Watching & Hitting the LIKE Button @Unique Access... I'm Coaching Football again so I Listen in the Car now b4 practice. You guys should do an interview with all the MC's/Hip Hop OGs that coach in the Snoop Youth Football League
Hitman Howie Tee Good Lookin' B
Diggin this content str8 from my era....
Are any of y'all old enough to remember unique access DVDs which came out the same time around smack DVDs
Let's be clear. This is the first dj to perform the "skip/church scratch on wax.....it was years after that that Jazzy Jeff did the same techniques (no pun) on the Magnificent Jazzy Jeff. Trust me, it had not been heard before by the masses....He came back with it on the Whistle group tracks...same scratch. Unmatchable when it hit. Everyone was trying to replicate it.
Yoo Howie had Madd crates of records back in the day
I bought all Howie Tee 12' inch records in junior high school...
"Howie's Teed oooffff!"
👍Another great interview with no unnecessary interruptions by the interviewer; ....like that other guy.
Wow more cool stories by the legends i still all those 12in singles he was talking about

Always wondered why whistle sounded like UTFO
Howie Tee produced some GREAT beats!!! Gotta Be in the top 10 producers
The man the myth the legend
This is the reason why Howie Tee never mentions with the other big producers in Hip-Hop! Got to give his flowers where it shall be due. You know? He can't be left out from the other people's favorite Hip-Hop producers list. Never at all!!!
Classic Times!!!
THE HITMAN HOWIE….✌🏿✌🏿🤴🏾!!!!

Like ma boy Doc would say..
sorry for the double comment but look at the names back then, Kangol Kid..fashionable, Educated Rapper, smart, intelligent characteristics, Doctor Ice Gainfully employed, good occupation aspirations. Compared to today's rappers names, several hundred "Lil's" and "Youngs", grown 30-year-old men afraid of maturing, XYZ (insert gang organization initials here) SELF SNITCH ( insert your favorite crime here) ie YNW KILLING SPREE, NBA SHOOT HIM FIRST, I know I'm in my old man bag tonight.
certain scratches that he did first that everyone uses till this day never mentioned ever !!
Dude could scratch! Quick cuts!

That High Powered Rap single he speaks of with the black label and yellow writing.......yeah my brother home on leave from the Navy dipped with my shit....I was 13-14, he was 23. still upset about that shit.....Lol
Yo one question real quick, why Marley and them other dj's never really gave Hit Man his props Remember he was putting out joints the same time Marley was making history. Put him in the record books. What is it a Brooklyn thing that they choose to keep his name out of Conversations. Jamaican Brooklynite. One love . I enjoyed listening to You. Another of the Artists have direct line from Jamaica. Check it
