Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

Special Ed went to Erasmus high with my brother. He was so dope with the lyrics. I used to study Howie Tee Productions. Hate to act like a groupie lol but the Hitman was the man!!!! The one is Chubbs biggest album, u know select was bullshit.

I find it inconceivable that those records never went gold. Something really stinks about that. Industry Rule number four thousand and eighty is in full effect.

No gold albums for chubb or ed? ...when Howie mentioned the sales stopped around 430 000...I have a feeling incentives were tied to a gold album that they didn't want to pay the artist..so on paper they not gold but in reality they gold or even platinum..grimey !!!

10:40. What's up? i AM that "DOMINO DUDE" that used to be down with Chubbs. Thank you for remembering/bringing me up. I wisH I saw this interview earlier so I could have told you the REAL reason we were no longer a group. Howie was being kind, but he knows what really happened...because it ended up happening to him. I'll leave that right there. Love your interviews, btw. Howie is one of the most innovative and dopest produced and djs ever. Peace. - DominO !

If you can't hear Slick Rick in your head saying "I'm your idol, the highest title, Numero Uno!" I don't know what to tell you. Makes perfect sense that Russell would want him to ghost write.

If you don't know Slick Rick had the creativity to write his own songs, I don't know what to tell you.

@@HypnoticHollywood Biz Markie had the creativity to write his own songs, but he still had Big Daddy Kane write a few songs for him. What's your point?

Artist writing for writing been going on. RUN and DMC don’t ever have to worry about life as they have writing credits on the beastie boys debut album that went DIAMOND. But I think Rick wanted Ed to write for Rick not just for storytelling. But the other similarities like West Indian heritage. And probably Ed can tap more into a slick Rick song as they were good friends behind the scenes

I'll bet Russell wanted to keep Special Ed on the shelf. He wanted to buy Ed's album b4 it came out. Rush ain't want no competition for Rick who was taking a long time to come out.
