Contracts was the first Hitman game I ever played. So when I played through this mission of a creepy asylum with a million dead Agent 47s lying around...I had not a single fucking clue what was going on. And I was honestly pretty creeped out. This game's narrative was very dream like, and I think it's the darkest game in the series.

47 is one clone of 40th series of engineered eugenic superior clones. So fictionally there was so many cloned, but not unique enough as 47

This game is really dark. This level got me instantly hooked. It was creepy and intense. I remember my heart racing when I was watching the swat team come after me.

+Old PC Gaming I believe that's because the levels are actually formulated from 47's memories. The fact that it's dark and stormy could mean that 47 actually holds some form of regret for his chosen profession.

Yeah, they're recollections of former contracts. I presume the actual contracts weren't as sick and depraved as 47 imagines, and is only portrayed as such because 47 himself is clearly mentally disturbed and delirious after having been shot.

@Cure Optimism Yep they definitely weren't as sick and depraved as 47 imagined because if you play Codename 47 and compare the levels on that game to the ones on Contracts that they redid they are very different and the ones on Contracts are way darker and more disturbing... I think the only levels that I can think of that are pretty dark on both games are the Rotterdam levels...

Contracts is so fucking good. Best game in the series. Everything feels so surreal - like you're playing through some kind of fever dream. Even after completing each mission you're not even sure if what you did actually happened. Such great atmosphere and some of the most disturbing visuals I've encountered in a game.

You feel like your playing in a fever dream because you are. All of Contracts, aside from the final level, is a series of hallucinations 47 is having as he lies unconscious and being operated on in a hotel room.

The thing I always liked about the Hitman games is that they always come up with something new. For example, they are not like the Assassin's Creed series, when sometimes they just copy the previous game and add something not really that interesting (like AC Brotherhood - AC Revelations or AC 4 Black Flag - AC Rogue). They always come with new animations and new playstiles, different atmospheres and a different gameplay than the previous game (In Codename 47 you had to play the game a little faster, in Sillent Assassin you had to wait and be very discret, it was the hardest Hitman game ever released in my opinion; even on easy or normal it gave you a feeling like you accidentaly pressed on hard or expert), then Contracts in which you had new animation, the stealth walk is faster and the gameplay smoother, then comes Blood Money which was a freaking revolution in the series. More weapons at your disposal, the weapon customization and hand to hand combat, throwable knifes and an even more smoother gameplay than any Hitman game before, then camed Absolution with the "instinct bullshit" which some cry about. In my opinion, though sometimes it really is a pain in the arse, it gives a challenge to the game. The fact that you could equip and unequip silencers in game made the gameplay feel even better, the contracts mode was a very interesting thing too and the stealth crouch in which you could run and the cover over solid objects felt so smooth and it was such an improvement over Blood Money in my opinion, after all camed Hitman 2016 which is the ultimatum, it has the gameplay I always wanted from the Hitman series, it has the smooth gameplay, the diverse weapon arsenal, the realistic AI reactions and all the good stuff and they even removed the instict-hide-in-plain-sight-by-scratching-the-back-of-your-neck-and-keeping-your-head-low thing that made people hate Absolution. The Hitman series is certainly a success, and they are the kind of game in which you can come back and replay without getting bored that easily, and can sometimes surprise you with how many solutions there are to complete a level with the silent assassin rank.

The only thing I really don't like about Absolution & Hitman 2016 is that Jesper Kyd no longer composed the music for them anymore for some strange reason... don't get me wrong they are still great games but he made the games so much better with his atmospherically music that really matched every Hitman game he did...

The darkest hitman in the series, I played this game when it came out and back then I was a teenager, I was literally feeling scared when playing it,everything is just surreal, the atmosphere, the colors, the cutscenes at the start and the end of each mission, but what made it stand out from other hitmans is the music, the genius of Jesper Kyd took this game to another level. This one really deserves a remaster with some current gen graphics and physics. Would definitely buy it.

This game was my childhood, and for some reason this level always scared the fuck out of me lmao

hitman contracts is a sick fucking game the replay value is THERE.

Wait in the lab as a patient too long and one will pull out a gun and fire randomly. Then the guards fire at you.

It was 47. What happened was that a mission went bad and he was recognized by a police officer who shot him. 47 escaped and got to his hotel, but his started to have flashbacks. He wasn't shot in the head; he imagined it. This is set between the 2nd and 3rd missions of Blood Money.

I remember watching my dad play the first 3 hitman games when I was little and learning to play too. I was always creeped out by Contracts but it was still my favorite, along with Silent assassin.

Hitman Contracts was one of my favorite PC games i have ever played ! :) This game rocks ! :) My best friend and i used to play the Hitmangames so much :)

77MrCrazyGames77 Yeah.. it's an upgraded, re-structured version of the original. It has changed visually, but the spirit of it was still there. The fact that he just left it standing is a miracle at all.. I would've headed over to the gas-line, burn the fucking place down.

Logic is not Hitman's strong suit but IIRC the final boss of Blood Money (wheelchair guy) says he raided the lab and took the files. Wheelchair guy, wanting to be the sole producer of such quality work, burned the files (I think) and tried to cremate 47 so his DNA would not be used. I * think * when W.G. died it shut the book on the clones... But then Mr. 17 is still alive in Hitman 2, so who knows. Maybe more out there...

+77MrCrazyGames77 As far as I know, the one explanation for why it would be totally different is due to it being a memory. Although after just finishing Codename 47 for the first time and starting Contracts for the first time ever just now, I love the design of the asylum a LOT more in contracts.

The foggy state of mind Agent 47 was experiencing during his flashbacks was said to have increased the sinister and dark tone throughout the levels...hence the reason why it was either raining, snowing etc.

Can't wait for the hd collection :D

i first played hitman 2 then contacts and now i am playing codename 47 these days but which game iI love in these series is contracts because of its graphic sin 2004 it is a oustanding game those days and i play it again and again these days also

remember the mission the SETUP how there were SWAT members. and you had to first go under the secret underground base. now this time in this mission you have to escape the asylum that was surrounded with SWAT looking for you.

Just got the collection for free on PS Plus! Very happy, I knew the game was hard but damn, I can't find a way out of this Asylum without swat finding me! Staff disguise doesn't work on them either! Love it though.
