Hitchhiking from Tijuana to the North Pole: Thumbs Up Season 2 (Part 3/4)

David and Harry continue their second great trek, starting from Tijuana and plotting a course up the West Coast, through Canada, and to the North Pole.
In the third part of their northward trek, the guys get a ride to Bakersfield from a friendly non-English-speaker. After a casual little run-in with a cop forces them off the highway, the boys catch a train and continue on through California's weird, semi-rural middle.

Udder Mayhem Actually, on David Choe's podcast called DVDASA, he admitted that this series was somewhat staged. I'm sure that besides the cameraman following the two hitchhikers, there was a van following them throughout their adventure that was used for storage, change of clothing, safety, food and water.

With 4 dudes you would be able to carry about MAYBE half a fuel tank without going over max take off weight. He would HAVE to make like 2-3 stops in Canada on the way and back of the envelope calculation puts the gas price at $550 for the direct route one way and about a 8 hour flight assuming you could take the direct route (which is not possible).

p3vvp3vv while I agree that Quebec is cool as heck, I disagree with your assessment of Anglo Canadian culture. You see the diference between America and even between Quebec and Anglo Canada is that there is no general culture. Canada is far more complex than that, even the "Anglo" Canadians have a very diverse background, truthfully many of their ancestors are not English. There have been several waves of white Europeam immigration to Canada: French, English, Scottish, Irish, German, Dutch, Ukrainian, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Czech, Polish, Portuguese, Flemmish, the list goes on. Some have melted into the ideal of the "Anglo Canadian" losing their ancestral cultural identity while others have not. Some 3rd generation English speaking Canadians are unaware that their great grandparents came here from another country and spoke another language. While others are aware of their European roots and carry that cultural history with them and identify as a hyphenated Canadian, such as a Scottish-Canadian. Personally I'm none of the above. Born here but not white enough to be considered an Anglo or a Quebecois, but Canadian all the same. I do know that America eats up Canadian cultural exports: many of the biggest Comedians in Hollywood of the past 50 years are Anglo Canadian, popular musicians, Bachman Turner, RUSH, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Nickel Back (not proud of that one), Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morisette, Arcade Fire (partially french), Cory Hart, Fiest, Anvil, Sarah Mclaughlin, and the kicker - - Bieber (unfortunately). We've also got a lot of cool black and brown english speaking cultural exports but that doesn't fit the common definition of Anglo. Peace man!

Y'all is more of a southern thing if not ghetto, and even then they pretty much just sound like any other American/Canadian. It's rumored in the US though that apparently Canadians say Aboot instead of about, I don't know if they actually do or not though, other then that, I can't really tell the difference between them and the US, but Canadians swear there is a difference.
