My favorite soul singer is Bobby Womack & he is perpetually overlooked. At least Damon Albarn was a fan & featured him on The Gorliiaz hit Stylo & Produced his final album The Bravest Man In The Universe. Nice to see the love for Sly & The Family Stone & Minnie Ripperton both of whom get forgotten sometimes Minnie because of her tragic death & Sly because of his drug induced burnout. Interesting stuff here 🤔.

Neither Bobby Womack or Donny Hathaway was mentioned on the list of "best soul singers". I was a little surprised but I guess there has to be a cut off point for Chat GPT's answers. It was good that AI did often mention other notable artists and groups for some of the questions though. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts on this.

You hit some great ones with Otis and Wilson, while Aretha is at the top of any list. STAX and MOTOWN are some of America's finest treasures, along with Nashville, Bakersfield, CHESS, and Criteria Studio in Miami when Tom Dowd was pushing the knobs......but I digress.... I won't post the link but search TY for: "The Four Tops - Baby I Need Your Loving (1966) 4K" Watch the 4-Tops all dressed so cool, and the kids dancing away... These are my memories of America... I've been listening to a lot of Donny Hathaway lately.....love his voice so much! Let's do a Blue-Eyed-Soul sometime.....Delaney & Bonnie, Dusty, Joe Cocker, etc... Great video, thank you!

I was surprised Donny Hathaway didn't get a mention. And the Temptations' "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" or "My Girl" didn't make the best soul songs list along with "Baby I Need Your Loving" with Levi Stubbs killing it on the vocals. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts on this.

hello rm, this was a great video, so many good soul funk lps through the years! each decade had classic releases for sure, from the supremes and all those awesome motown releases to bobby womack. there is just to many fine albums and artists tp pick just a few, there was something for everyone who enjoyed this type of music and still do, like myself. like the old lays potatoe chip commercial, ''nobody can eat just one'' i feel the same way about music! thanks for sharing this video, another very well done and informative vc vinyl tag. hope you are doing well, take care.

Glad you found the video interesting. I love the old Lays crisps ads and well said...there's just to much amazing music, musicians and artists out there. Where do you begin and where do you end? I only recently discovered that "Ever Lasting Love" by the British group Love Affair was actually a cover of a Motown classic by soul singer Robert Knight. Still can't believe Love Affair's lead singer was only 17 years old when he sang it with a full orchestra for the studio recording. As ever, many thanks for stopping by and watching.

It does make you wonder. No mention of Johnny Hathaway as a possible "best soul singer" on the list either. Many thanks for watching.

A very interesting video . The Meters also played backup on some of Robert Palmer’s early albums ( as did Little Feat ) . A name that I would put forward as an underrated female soul singer is Ann Peebles . She’s terrific . Thank you for an entertaining video !

This is a fun experiment for sure, but I would be extremely careful and critical (in the sense of critical thinking) when comes to such AIs as sources of information. The fact that it gave you two different answers when you accidentally fed it the same promp twice. Very enjoyable video :)

I do wonder if future generations will depend on AI to know about music rather than discovering it organically. I think there's a risk of so many wonderful artists falling through the net. I would use AI (or Wikipedia) for any academic research that's for sure. As you say, who or what are the sources? Many thanks for watching.

Shoehorning What’s Going On into the 60’s sounds like AL was being lazy :), I would have thrown in Rock N Soul by Solomon Burke at least. No James Brown, Live at the Apollo, Payback etc. AI mainly sounds like things Rolling Stone mag would say :). Pleasure would be my most underrated band, I think your brother had one their lp’s that you picked up a while back. Check them out if you haven’t. All the best

Couldn't agree more. I think it was mainly the usual artists but there were a few surprising results for me. I was expecting Donny Hathaway to be mentioned, and at least the Temptation's "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" in the list of best soul songs. It was not to be according to AI. I am still trying to organise that huge collection from my brother and will look out for Pleasure. ( There are 800 lps to go through.) Many thanks for sharing your views on AI and for watching.

I don't know Bettye LaVette or Maxine Brown, can't wait to find out what I've been missing out on. Seems like a bit of a red flag when you ask the same question twice and it came up with 2 different answers. It's surprising Isaac Hayes' "Shaft" movie soundtrack didn't get listed and "Superfly" was on there a couple of times. Chat GPT gave some generally good answers and a few surprising ones too.
