Chorus:
Jimmy Lee, this one's for me
And I'll always remember
Hey, Lord, history, biology
And that magical December, ah hah
Jimmy Lee, where can you be
If this song ever finds you
Won't you please explain to me
Why you left me behind you
Oh, yeah
Jimmy, Jimmy

Right in the heart of the 1980s when Aretha caught a new headwind and let us all know she wasn't going anywhere but up to the top. Miss her so much. Rest well, Queen.

Yep. Folk had counted her out but she doubled down on her demands bcuz she knew her worth and value. During this time Aretha Franklin, one who always lamented flying, decided that anybody who wanted to do anything with her needed to come to her to have it done. This and a lot of subsequent works were published and produced almost solely in The Motor City, Detroit, MI. Including the international number she did with George Michael, Knew You'd Be Waiting. Even the video was filmed transcontinental.

I don't care anything about any skeletons in your closet or anything else negative anybody may have to say about your life. What you gave to the world in music is uncompromised. Thank you Aretha. I will always love you!!

Nothing but Love & Respect to the 1 and only Queen of Soul... I just paid my respects today at her visitation. She looked so peaceful.... massive line of thousands of fans to pay honor with her music showering down upon us... a beautiful vintage pink Cadillac parked outside the museum. What a beautiful celebration of her life. Anyone else here in Detroit? I always loved this jam about 1st love ❤️ and heartbreak and the music video is so sweet!

As a teenager in the 80s, a few things brought the great Aretha Franklin to my attention (sadly, it was not the UK radio stations playing her anthology); namely, the 'Blues Brothers' film (Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, et. al.), 'I knew you were waiting' (collaboration with George Michael), and this gem, 'Jimmy Lee'. Again, not played much on the airwaves UK-side, so thank you for this download, and thank you KZread 🎼👏🏾🌟❤

Song Of The Day #2 No one can tell a story like Aretha. Who can these days? The lyrics are so poetic that having a video is just extra. If you're like me, you can see every moment she sings about quite clearly through your own imagination or...your own truth. For me, it would have been "Kenny Lee." She may as well have been singing about me. It nearly happened the same way she sings about it; even the other woman he married. This whole song was just a page from my own life. I feel sorry for the young ones growing up now and do not have the benefit of music teaching or being empathetic to life's tough lessons. Wish I had listened to Aretha.

The only positive aspects of her passing away is that she is in a better place, free from physical pain and the trials, tribulations, racism, violence and all the troubles of this world. It is also a comfort that so many others have loved her and will miss her as much as I do. It hasn't hit me HARD. I didn't know her personally, but I think more highly of her than 90% of everyone I have ever known, including family, friends and "significant others." Why? because she has never failed or disappointed me in her performances or in how she lived her life. I have been a HUGE fan for 51 years and will reverse her until my last breath. "God Save the Queen"!! D.Sims

Why does this music video is a replica of how me and my first ever boyfriend met and dated in highschool. He then disappeared into the service...and left me without giving me a reason. He used to cheat and munipulate me. It was hard because he was my first time. So you know attachments and the heartbreak was hella heavy.

In 1987, I worked at Imperial Sports at Northland Mall in Southflield, MI (suburban Detroit) and he worked right across the hall at The Gap. All this time I couldn’t shake your memory And I never knew the sweetest love was the first So what am I supposed to do about this curse Oh, baby, I’ve got you to blame And I’m calling, calling out your name Oh, he was so fine, Jimmy Lee Oh, he was so fine, Jimmy, Jimmy Lee (Jimmy Lee) Jimmy, Jimmy Lee (Jimmy Lee) Find me rushing off to school every morning Never had a care Acting crazy, always laughing when I’m running Cause I knew you’d meet me when I got there Stealing kisses in the hall before the first bell You smelled so fine Though we’d just met I guess you knew me so well You had the number to my heartline (Maybe he knew his stuff) Well, just between you and me (Maybe you weren’t enough) He was the first one (Maybe he’d seen enough) He stole my heart And he ran like a bandit, I don’t understand it Jimmy Lee, this one’s for me, and I’ll always remember History, biology, and that magical December, ooh, boy Jimmy Lee, where can you be, if this song ever finds you Won’t you please explain to me why you left me behind you, yeah (Jimmy Lee) Jimmy On the average twice a week I think I see you On some avenue Someone laughs or shakes his head they way you used to I guess I, I got myself a loose screw I grew up and had my share of adventure Well, I’ve had some fun But you never need to question my intentions Cause each guy is just another rerun (Maybe he knew his stuff) Well, just between you and me (Maybe you weren’t enough) He was the first one (Maybe he’d seen enough) He stole my heart And he ran like a bandit, I don’t understand it Jimmy Lee, this one’s for me, and I’ll always remember, hey, Lord History, biology, and that magical December, ah, hah Jimmy Lee, where can you be, if this song ever finds you Won’t you please explain to me why you left me behind you, oh, yeah (Jimmy Lee) Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy Lee (Jimmy Lee, Jimmy Lee) (Maybe he knew his stuff) Well, just between you and me (Maybe you weren’t enough) He was the first one (Maybe he’d seen enough) He stole my heart And he ran like a bandit, I don’t understand it, yeah Jimmy Lee, this one’s for me, and I’ll always, always remember History, biology and that magical, oh, December Jimmy Lee, where can you be, if this song ever finds you, yeah, yeah, yeah Won’t you please explain to me why you left me, oh, behind you Jimmy Lee, this one’s for me, ooh, hey Jimmy, hey Jimmy
