I read somewhere that it is possible that in the past, the Bloodmoon Ursaluna may have followed the Basculin for a reliable source of food, similar to how bears catch salmon and other fish during their migration. Add to it the fact that it is capable of attacking Ghost types which the Basculin happen to evolve into.

That does make a lot of sense! Feel like that was in my head when I was brainstorming this vid at work, but didn’t make it into the script 🤔 Either way, they’re definitely connected, both being in the Timeless Woods. Kind of makes the Bloodmoon Ursaluna even cooler!

This is a REALLY good theory and is now my headcanon. As for why Zoroark and Zorua were in Hisui I remember in Black and White theirs a post game area, a cave tunnel, that in game is stated to connect to Sinnoh so my theory is that many Zoroark and Zorua entered Hisui from Unova’s cave network and the scared locals chased them to to the frigid mountains where many died

My personal theory is that part of the reason Arceus sent the player back in time and told them to “seek out all Pokémon” was because it would somehow help the Hisuian forms survive into modern day, maybe by promoting their preservation by helping the survey research and Pokédex development.

@MikeTheEnforcer It's possible that the descendants of the 2 clans and the galaxy survey team have a secret plot of land or an island that they could have hid the hisuian forms on, like a animal reserve. As Perrin stated she is from Sinnoh. More than likely the Pokémon league of Sinnoh is very protective of these Pokémon like the clans of old Hisui and probably has the descendants of the clans aid in the protection process. As to explain why Perrin has 2 Hisuian Growlithe. Or Hisuian Growlithe is just the natural form of Growlithe.

What if i told you that Hisuian Growlithe didn't even originate in Hisui/Sinnoh, but rather in Kitakami. You see, Hisuian Growlithe is basically just the domesticated version of regular Growlithe, just as dogs are considered to be the domesticated version of wolves in real life, and Growlithe were domesticated in Kitakami, and over the years and decades, the domesticated Growlithe became the recognizable Hisuian Growlithe that we all know and love, however, an apocalypse happened sometime between the events of Scarlet & Violet and those of Legends Arceus, and as a result, the Hisuian Growlithe went feral and had traveled to other regions, and in one region in particular, namely Sinnoh, which had been renamed into Hisui by now, the feralized Hisuian Growlithe, upon arriving in the region, had established themselves an important population, compared to other regions, including even its original home region, Kitakami, so important, in fact, that it's from here, and not there, in its original homeland of Kitakami, that we got the regional variant of Growlithe, which explains why Hisuian Growlithe is called *Hisuian* Growlithe and not *Kitakamian* Growlithe, despite having its origins in Kitakami.

As for Perrin’s Growlithes, I’d have to imagine that they’re some of the few remaining purebred descendants of the original line whilst more modern Growlithe are from human crossbreeding with less rocky Pokemon, like we did with real dogs. Heck, maybe they’re descendants from the original Noble! They’ve got to have some good genes!

Perrin does say that Ursaluna still exist in her home region just not as common as they once were in the time of Hisui. So it would make sense if the others were like that. Plus they never officially said they went extinct, it was just a fan head cannon that people took as actual canon. Plus many of the regional forms of Hisui came after the form we already knew which was confirmed on the official websites and by professor Laventon in game. So it makes sense they are just not as common in modern day and that’s all too it. In lore it does seem weird you can’t evolve them in SV but it does make sense if you look at it that Legends Arceus only came not even a full year from Scarlet and Violet so it makes sense they want to keep them exclusive for that game . In gen 10 they will probably fully integrate them and put all the Pokémon in the evolution line together like they should.

My idea for why Perrin has a Hisuian Growlithe is that her family (the descendants of Adaman of course) have had Hisuian Growlithes and Arcanines for generations and have just privately bred them. We've seen that regional forms can continue to exist even when bred with other regional forms so they could just keep their variant around in the family.

@@bradwhite5884 That was for Mystery Dungeon, because Legends Arceus actually takes place in the post-apocalyptic future, and i know this because of a few small but very important plot details : When you black out, you don't lose any money, implying that all your money is stored in your credit/debit card, because if it was instead stored in hard cash like it was in any other Pokémon game, you would've lose some of your money when you black out, however, credit/debit cards were only invented in 1950, and that was just the beginning. In the photography studio, you can take pictures of your Pokémon as well as yourself, however, the pictures taken at the photography studio are not only in color, but also in HD, and color HD cameras were only invented in 1979. You can return lost satchels back to their original owners from anywhere at any time, however, this privilege wouldn't have been possible without the help of modern-day technology, as commercial drones, which are required for transporting the satchels, weren't invented until 2006, and even then, it requires GPS tracking, which wasn't invented until 1978, to have the drones even know where to go in the first place, and even then, it requires the internet, which wasn't invented until 1991, to have the drones even know that you have a lost satchel to return in the first place through the use of either a website or an app, and even then, it requires said website or app to be accessible from your Arcphone, which is basically a smartphone, which itself wasn't invented until 2007, and without any of these inventions, you would've only been able to return lost satchels at a specific point in Jubilife Village. For comparison, the Poké Ball was invented in 1925. All in all, with all this unexpected story details, we can safely say that Legends Arceus does indeed take place in the post-apocalyptic future and not the distant past like it was for Mystery Dungeon.

My personal theory for Hisuian Growlithe is that Perrin's family probably runs a preserve of sorts for that version of Growlithe. Adaman was always obsessed with traditions and keeping the past in mind as they move forward, so it would make sense for him or his descendants to realize how Kantonian Growlithe was probably overtaking the new population (or Hisuian Growlithe were becoming fewer in the wild) and set up an area inaccessible to the general public where this species of Growlithe and Arcanine could survive and not become extinct. As for white striped Basculin, The most likely theory is that there are just fewer of them in the wild and the pods that are still around are spread out. They tend to work together and are gentle while the Basculin we know from Unova are a lot more aggressive and territorial, so it stands to reason that they could have been pushed out from where they used to migrate to be it blue/red striped Basculin moving into the territories where they would migrate or somewhere where they would pass through, thus stopping them from reaching their destination. They also end up in an area called "timeless woods" and are only found in a small pond blocked by a waterfall, a possible safe space where it's so cut off from humans that they're able to rest and thrive there.

One thing I always felt a little sad about in Legends Arceus is a common thing felt with things from the past: All those things are gone now, and it would never be the same. I felt that hard with all my Pokémon, like they wouldn't live on into the future as a species or something. So seeing them in Timeless Woods honestly made me happy. Was like my Basculegion I have would live on, and not be a forgotten footnote in history. If any of this makes sense anyways.

The thing with White Stripe Basculin is that it follows none of the usual rules for regional variants and is exactly the same in every way except colour and that it can evolve so we could view white stripe as just being the "pure breed" and rather than go extinct it's just incredibly rare to find the right conditions in the wild now. Kitakami is VERY rural especially in terms of areas in a pokemon game with the only human hub having very little in the way of technology or industry so if anywhere that we've actually seen still has similar conditions to old Hisui, it's this sleepy mountain town.

It is possible that modern Sinnoh have some new Pokemon that didn't show up in Platinum, and maybe they retconed regular Growlithe to now be Hisuian (or better, Sinnonian) Growlithe.

I actually had a theory for why W-Stripe Basculin appear in Kitakami. Basically, being rather mellow, other red and blue striped Basculin out competed their mellower brothers and sisters, forcing them to find less competitive waters. Basculiegon evolved as a way to carry on those that were lost, either through starvation or predation as a way to protect what was left of the school. And these fish mons found their way to Hisui and Kitakami.

The main justification for pokemon first discovered in Hisui being extinct was Cynthia out right saying that all of those pokemon had gone extinct long ago, in the Arceus Chronicles special. I reckon Hisuian Growlithe was probably preserved by Adaman and his descendents. As for Ursaluna and White Stripe Basculegion, which is recognised as a Hisuian form when filtering by Hisuian form in pokemon Home, have a bit of a different thing happening. I doubt a single Ursaluna would be able to survive as long as it did, but both White Stripe Basculin and Ursaluna can be found in the Timeless Woods. My guess is that through some strange magic, time quite literally doesn't progress in the Timeless Woods and nothing changes, allowing these pokemon to survive there, even long after they should have gone exticnt.

I never saw it as them having gone extinct, really. There’s a few regular Pokémon in Hisui that don’t appear in modern day Sinnoh, they likely migrated or just... exist elsewhere already. Especially the ones that evolve from regular Pokémon, I mean there is no possible way that EVERY source of Black Augurite is gone, and I’m sure you could make artificial Peat Blocks with some experimenting. I think the only one that’s really ‘confirmed’ to have gone extinct is Wyrdeer, since Stantler can’t learn Psyshield Bash, and even then I’m sure there’s some exclusive tutor that could figure out how to teach it to them or someone that manages to make a TM of the move someday

How some of them ends up in our time? That's easy! Space time rifts. Although we only see the rifts take pokémon to Hisui, it's a high likelihood that they are brought back to their time afterwards, unless they are caught. I suspected though that some of them ended up stuck in Hisui instead of returning to their time, witch wouldn't be shown in game because of how the rift mechanic works. So, since some Pokémon most likely ended up stuck on the Hisui'en side of the rift, it's safe to say that some of the mon's from the Hisui side ended up on the other side of the rift. This could also apply to resources, as we do get certain items that aren't available otherwise (as far as I know) through the rifts. All of this to say that the space time rifts probably functions like a door.

i could look at all the hisuian pokemon shown in the dlc to still be around as reasonable pokemon to have survived by artificial means or just having a large natural biome to thrive in, like people could still breed hisuian growlithes similar to how we breed dogs, so they're probably just deemed one of the super expensive and ancient breeds of growlithe, meanwhile basculegion/white stripe basculin is just able to probably migrate wherever it wants since its not technically a hisuian form its just a form of basculin first found in hisui, it could just probably be anywhere, just rarer in other places. and while it wasnt in the dlc hisuian electrode and voltorb could also probably still be around since its just implied with the creation of pokeballs it was just more advantagous for them to start using those for camouflage instead, and they're just able to be founnd in the wild in pokemon go, so thats pretty close. as for the rest of them who knows since bloodmoon ursaluna is seemingly a one off, but maybe its just a people forgot the required methods to evolve these pokemon

After Teal Mask, the most educated guess I can make for extinct Hisuian Pokémon would be Typhlosion, Quilfish, Overquil, and Braviary. The Quilfish line because we haven't seen Hisuian Quilfish outside of PLA yet and the evolution method being lost to time, and the other two because Mt. Coronet seems to have lost whatever spiritual power that allowed them to evolve. All of the others are likely living in other unseen lands, endangered, highly endangered, or extinct by proxy due to lost evolution methods or their base form simply not existing in Sinnoh anymore and can't evolve into their Hisuian form as a result. I imagine many of the Pokémon that evolved into Hisuian forms because of Hisui's environment may still be able to evolve if taken to Mt. Coronet. EDIT: I forgot Voltorb. That one probably just adapted and became modern Voltorb at some point.

We know that Kitakami is divided from Sinnoh / "new Hisui" by an ocean, but these two locations cant be too far away from each other, Bloodmoon is described in the dex as an Ursaluna that crossed the ocean, its a single encounter and no Teddiursas or Ursarings in Kitakami, so Ursaluna overall is still extinct with the exeption of this single specimen, which also had to adapt to its new environment to survive and doesnt share the same characteristics as a "Hisuian" Ursaluna. Kitakami is probably set on a smaller island, the town folks arent familiar with bigger cities and Blueberry Academy is set somewhere in the ocean, so not connected to Kitakami by landmass, and an isolated ecosystem creates more beneficial conditions for certain species to survive who already go extinct in other places. Being close to Hisui and connected by water, white striped Basculins could easily have arrived there and survived due to that isolation. No red or blue Basculins to be seen in Kitakami, so they are not outcompeted by their more aggressive varients here. We dont know how old exactly those Hisuian Growlith statues are. May easily have been created around the time Legends: Arceus plays. No wild Hisuian Growlith in Kitakami either. The only two we know about are domesticated, so those forms were kept alive by targeted breeding, for all we know wild forms of Hisuian Growlith are still extinct.

There was nothing specifically stating that Hisui itself created these forms, rather the circumstances of the new terrain they found themselves living in. I mean, all you really need for wyrdeer is a more hostile environment, or a colder climate for hisuian liligant.
