We eat mostly the same foods, we speak the same language, we watch the same TV shows and movies, read the same books, our high streets have the exact same shops, we celebrate the same holidays (except maybe saints days), we enjoy the same sports like rugby and football. And to be brutally honest if you walked through an English scheme or a Scottish scheme, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference 🇬🇧

It's not that bad, he just has trouble with some of the vowel and 'r' sounds (it isn't always rolled, but when it is it's only done as a half roll rather than a large exaggerated one). Trust me, my partner tries to do a Scottish accent around me all the time and, let me tell you, it fucking blows.

My Review: As a Scottish person, this is an all round decent look at Scottish History. Some mistakes with a few flags, could have been clearer on the Act of Crowns and the act of union as well as glaring over the 2014 referendum but apart from those points, this is pretty decent. One of the best videos I've seen on Scottish history not made by Scots especially on KZread. P.s. Edinburgh is pronounced as Edin-burah like bra, not Edin-burow like the the borough of the Bronx. I used to have to teach it to tourists at my old job so it's not a biggie.

@@jossephrhue8886 Depends where you're from, some parts say of scotland say "Edin-Brah" others "Edin-Bruh" and then some say "Edin Burah"

Fun fact: When Robert the Bruce died he wanted to go to heaven so the story goes the he took about 100 of his knights and they put his heart in a box (after he was dead) and took it to the holy land but before they could get there they got attacked by an army on the way and his favourite knight, (of clan Douglas) took his heart out of the box and threw it into the air and the heart grew wings and flew to heaven. So Clan Douglas’ symbol is a heart with wings.

Hate to shoot you down mate, but Robert the Bruce's heart is buried at Melrose Abbey with the inscription, "A noble hart may have no ease, gif freedom failye" on the gravestone. It is true that James Douglas was taking the heart on a tour of the holy land, and it is true that they never made it there, but there are no records of flying hearts, either his or any other. There is a legend that, before Douglas was killed in a surprise attack during this voyage, he threw the urn with the heart ahead of him and cried "Lead on, brave heart, I'll follow thee," but regardless of whether or not this is accurately, the heart was brought back to Scotland with Douglas' body. Both of which they buried near Melrose. Many years later (I think 700, but don't quote me on that), the urn was exhumed and interred within Melrose Abbey, as Robert the Bruce had originally desired.

Even slaves of Romans benefited by being conquered compared to what they lived in before. And thanks to capitalism you no longer need to store food, your store of food, supplies and so on can be kept in your pocket wherever you go. Look and Venezuela to see when the blood of a nation’s currency is infested by parasites. ‘The oil price drop did it’ they say, none of the other even more oil dependent nations were so affected, however the workers lowered and dropped as the price rises- they didn’t believe the price would ever stop rising or prepare for it. I mean, I lived in Newcastle when I was a kid, so I picked up a sort of mix between American-Mexican-Geordie amalgamation of accents that sounds like a bad impression, but it's completely involuntary,

The Jacobite rebellions weren't trying to gain Scottish independence, they were trying to re-establish the Stuart dynasty to power. Also there were actually five uprisings starting in 1688 led by Bonnie Dundee and the final one led by Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745. P.s some Jacobotes did fight for Scottish independence but that wasn't the goal in the eyes of most of the army.

The pictures ~6:00 is where I live. The place is called Glen Coe, or 'The weepy mountains' due to the amount of rain they get and the green color. The Gaelic names for the mountain summits usually comes by describing the conditions, features or shapes of the mountain.

As a Glaswegian, who has many american friends, I've never heard anyone with a North American accent pronounce the world Glasgow as well as you just did. I physically recoiled because it was so unexpected.

@@AnimeSunglasses Would you believe an absolute idiot, while on stage providing background characters and chatter, during the middle of the damn show, asked why you can't say the Scottish play in a theater. By name. On stage. During a show. And not a production of said play, but of god damn Footloose. Thank god there was a break right after and we made him do the full ritual (at least the variation of curse cleaning that we had) before he was allowed back in the building at all, and everyone was SUPER on edge the entire time. A couple minor injuries did happen, but mostly nipped it in the bud.

Fun fact, the Scottish princess who became an English queen was the great grandniece of Edward the Confessor. So in a way, the House of Wessex regained control of England.

His accent was not sarcastic, it was exaggerated, and he included himself doing that accent because he thought it would make people laugh, guess what, it worked. My comment is not complaining, it is stating a funny fact, Blue tried (or didn't I don't know) and it didn't work. He made an entire video about Scotland, he must have know that his accent doesn't sound Scottish, and as he's well aware of that he must have consciously included himself attempting to recreate it badly to make people laugh. The investigation involved Labour MSPs with their friends / family / mistresses traveling all around the world to hot sunny countries (Staying in luxury accommodation of course) for years. Before it was eventually determined that the blue currently used by flag makers was the correct one....

The OP posted that he thinks the first words were 'classy'. @M Mouse states the first thing the parliment did was vote for a pay raise and I added to the effect of Labour using the colour of the flag as as an excuse for a junket.

I would like you to do a video on how Scotland went from the clans taking care of the clan peoples to the Clan Chiefs taking the land as their private holdings and the Clearances. I would like you to include the Jacobites and the Covenenters in that. I am trying to learn that history.

Nice way of looking at the One O'clock Gun, but the actual function is for ships in the Firth of Forth to adjust their clocks. Not by timing them to the gun - the gun prompts a ball-drop visual signal at a more visible tower on the nearby Calton Hill, which helps compensate for sonic lag. I grew up a couple miles from Loudoun Hill. Used to go there a tonne, they put some kind of Wallace monument there which I always thought was weird since it was The Bruce who battled there.

Tbf that's also true. They're currently dragging us kicking and screaming out the EU for example. It's kind of a running thing for the British parliament to choose to do the exact opposite thing from what Scotland wants and then just force us to put up with it. Privatising the NHS, investing in nuclear weapons (and having the cheek to make us be the ones who have to store them). The UK kinda goes out of its way to make shit difficult for Scotland then acts surprised when we tried to become independent in 2014.

Great but should have gone deeper into the erasure of celtic language and culture that went on, they used to beat kids for speaking Gaelic in Scotland and Ireland even in the 40s and 50s. My father included. They used to have a rope necklace that was put on anyone who spoke Gaelic and the last one wearing it at end of class got the belt.

Quick note: Most who fire off saluting shots or time-marking shots from cannons often don’t use the ball. If the Scotts did, fair enough.

I fair enjoyed that! I think it worthwhile to say that Scotland's journey is the journey every one of world's societies need to appreciate. Scotland has in many ways tested every avenue, every theory and every philosophy... and spilled the rivers of blood that they generated. I don't think there is another society on earth that can claim the political maturity of the Scots. A study of Scots law is a study into human failures and humanity's triumphs.

the one o'clock gun is a holdover from shipping days where it was used to tell the dock and ships therein what time it was.

Sweden and Denmark is another stab happy pair of siblings worth looking into if you like these parts of history.
