dude this is one of the best Wildwood history videos out there because you actually incorporate stock footage along with the info. I love that museums. Castle Dracula was the best thing ever in Wildwood and I'm still hopeful it comes back!!

Angelo Nickels, former owner of Nickels' Midway Pier along with his brothers B. J. (Big John) Nickels, and Steve Nickels supports a rebuilding of the castle somewhere. Fun Pier had a Castle Frankenstein, it was Seascape in the 60's then Castle of Frankenstein to the mid-70's, it was a ride through, then it was moved toward the back of the pier and turned into a walk-through and reopened 1978. It closed July 1982 for some reason and burned Aug 13, 1984. It was an electrical fire. It was two floors. Castle Dracula burned down Jan 16, 2002 because two male teens skipped school and broke into the exit of the castle and inside lit lighters or torches to see in the dark, then something caught fire and they ran out and down to the street and were arrested by a nearby cop. They didn't get jail time because they were minors but they had to write an apology letter. The remains that were standing were finally razed by May 2002. For a few years there was a trampoline ride on the sand where the Dungeon boat ride was under the castle. More recently a Flow Rider wave machine and now a seating area. You have to go across to Mariner's Landing to Ghost Ship to get scared now. Ghost Ship opened 2010 and was closed 2020, 2021, 2022 and the first floor reopened July 2023. Morey's Pier had a really creepy 3 floor haunted house from 1972-1984 and in 1984 the third floor caves were closed and people rerouted back down to the first floor from the second floor because the Six Flags Great Adventure Haunted Castle fire on May 11, 1984 caused the state to get strict with indoor attractions and some wound up closing for good including Brigantine Castle after 1984 which then burned Sept. 1987. Morey's had a second haunted house that was one floor from 1989-1991. Hunt's Pier might have had one as well at the time. The new owners who bought the pier in Feb 1986 from Bud Hunt razed a bunch of rides on the left side of the pier in Feb 1989 including the Flyer coaster and brought in carnival type rides and kiddie rides.

Hunt's Theaters Inc. was a company that owned Hunt's Pier and various movie theaters in Wildwood and Cape May County. Many of the amusement rides mentioned around 10:12 of the video were located on Hunt's Pier. The Castle Dracula was the second attraction in Wildwood to use real people as gimmicks (monsters, ghosts, goblins, vampires, etc). The first attraction to use real people was the Haunted House on Morey's Surfside Pier. 17:20 That sign stood at the parking lot entrance to Zaberer's Restaurant. One of the fancier restaurants in the Wildwood - Cape May area. 23:05 I had the pleasure of working on the Golden Nugget Mine Ride from 1979-1982. It was undoubtedly the most popular ride on Hunt's Pier. 28:00 I remember Egdon Heath, not only from the Playpen, but I believe they played all over the Philly-South Jersey area. All of those clubs were really popular with rockers back in the late 70's and 80's. In addition to the Penalty Box and Playpen, there was The Hurricane East (Dead End Kids), The Rainbow, Phil and Eddies Surf Club, The Shamrock and the Bolero.

I love the video. I was always more of a Stone Harbor kid. But we always went to Wilwood for fun at night. In the seventies and eighties. Now, in the late 80s set early 90s. I was down there a lot with dancing u s a. I don't know if any you remember on the USA Network. They had a dance show and once a while with their at wildwood. But the penalty box looks like a club that I used to go to in the early 90s. What comedy? i'm not sure it's the same place for the shore. It looks familiar. Who remembers the old wooden bridge when you left Stone Harbor to go into North Wildwood? I'm Morgantown Berks County Pennsylvania great times at the shore.

I wonder how younger generations perceive the lost amusements including long gone haunted attractions they never were aware existed before? But they have Dante's Dungeon, Pirate's of Wildwood, and the Ignus Fatuus Ghost Ship now for scary/dark rides and attractions. I was at the museum in Aug 1995, June 1996, June 1998, and July 6-8, 2011. They added more stuff by the time I went back in July 2011 and even more in your video. I did go through Castle Dracula in the mid-late 90's as well as the Dungeon boat ride in 1996 and 1998. I went through Ghost Ship and a few other haunted attractions that are no longer there. I rode Golden Nugget in Aug 1982, Aug 1983 when it was Hunt's Pier owned by Bud Hunt, June 1996 and June 1998 when it was Dinosaur Beach owned by the Catanoso brothers of Steel Pier in AC. The Crazy Mouse and Skooter bumper cars from Dino Beach are at Steel Pier now. That Toccata and Fugue in D minor recording in your video was by me from June 1998 I think from a video I took outside the castle for several minutes. I sent Dark in the Park brothers Bill and Seph Cherkasky audio and video recordings of the castle, the audio tape recordings are from Aug 1995 and June 1996 of the inside, and Dungeon boat ride 1996. They only put a few clips on their site of the audio recordings of Castle Dracula but I have the full tapes somewhere.
