Thanks, former Philly guy. Wildwood Crest was our family summer vacation spot. Since you asked: A hotel is usually a large, enclosed building with hundreds of rooms across multiple floors, while a motel has one or two floors with outdoor room entrances

It's reverse in wild wood. Hotels are big houses average 8 rooms. Usually run down and funky. The motels were the nice places with pools and air conditioner and cable tv
Bobby Rydell passed last year. And he was a Philly native may he rest in power.❤️❤️❤️

thanks for the video. I haven’t been to wildwood in years. loved it as a teenager. I remember Draculas castle. That was the best!!
Dracula's Castle was the best thing ever. Really miss it. This is a great and fun video!
A Hotel is a building with multiple rooms, corridors to access them and it is typically multiple levels. A Motel has 1-2 floors with rooms that are accessible through outdoor walkways near the parking lot.

Actually in the Wildwoods, their working definition is a motel like the Crusader has outside entrance to rooms. Hotels like the Adventurer has inside entrance to rooms.
5:20 love the Mustang protecting his car by taking two spots when the place is deserted lol
We always stayed at the Ranch House motel in Wildwood every summer. Next-door on one side was a miniature golf course and on the other side was a restaurant I believe that was called the Blue Dolphin.
Only guy I know that can make a great video when everything is closed! 😂 #allthewayclub
@15:30 I've partied many times in the Royal Canadian and Premier motels during the car show and Irish weekends. That intersection takes me back. It's weird seeing all the old 50's Doowoop motels gone and condos up in their place.
Loved walking down Ocean Av and seeing all the classic motels. 1st time in 1987, I remember walking from the Boardwalk to the Viking Motel and marveling at all the neon signs!!
Summer jobs at the Shore, once filled by locals. now they have to import the workers. so confusing.
Bobby Rydell. A few years before he died the Wildwood VFW gave him a award. They had a small concert at Fox Park. I was lucky to attend. His family had a house on Montgomery Blvd.
We always stayed in the satellite motel in the 70's which is long gone now. It was on the opposite side of the parklane motel which just closed itself a few years ago. Great memories! The ocean front pan American use to have a restaurant in the front for breakfast and lunch which is no longer there but the motel is.

Maybe they were closed for the season? I stay at the Waikiki ago just a short distance away from it and it was open last year and just a month when I was on vacation. By the way it has an average Google rating of 4.6.@@davidhibbs6989
Wildwood is my favorite place to go!!!!
Love this. I grew up down the street from The Yankee Clipper and the Crusader on Cardinal road.💚🙏✌️🤟🎶🎶🎶
Motel is a contraction of motor hotel. Became popular when cars became popular. People could drive to the motel, park their car relatively close to their room, and not have to walk through the lobby to get to their room. It was more convenient for families.

I know when my parents did their vacation journey from Cape Cod to Atlantic City and Wildwoods they said that you could go to a motel and ask for a room and they give it to you.
I also want to tell you i loved the wildwood vids! Brought back a whole bunch of great memories. Went there every year for vacay! Thx
Captain my captain I liked it. Old school fun 👍🏽
Thanks for sharing, good video. I first went to Wildwood NJ back in 1985. I use to work at couple places down there back in the day. I lived down there too during the same year. I later use go vaca down there every year from 1990 thru 2001. I am hoping to make it back down there again soon, even if it's just for a night.
That was a really interesting and fun video. Thanks.
Love the Fleur de Lis! ❤
Lol. El Ray means The Ray 😂 That tour was enjoyable. You’re right about those EZ passes abt to track and ticket us. I spent my childhood summers in N. Wildwood. We still have our condo. It’s actually up for sale. I think my sis just put it on the market.
Learned some interesting stuff. They said development of the area as a resort town really picked up when the parkway was completed in 1955.

A great invention the Garden State Parkway but nothing like New Jersey Turnpike
Great time Captain - thanks for sharing!!!
El Rey means The King
Sometimes the ones you think are a miss are some of your best … nice job Jon! ✌️
Great scoot. You captured the Jersey shore perfectly
Stardust first bar I got into under age in 80s was awesome who let the dogs out was rocking
A hotel is when you enter the room from inside of the building, a motel is when you enter the room from outside the building.
Family owned a bungalow in West Wildwood during 50s and 60s. Best time ever for us. Later I got married and would bring my wife and 2 boys to Wildwood Crest for vacations during the 80s. Stayed at the Lotus... nice rooms/suites and very friendly owners. Now reside year round in central Florida (bwtn Orlando and Tampa). Tampa is a fabulous city by the bay with a river walk, major sports teams and loads of fun things to do on land and water. Never returning north (been here over 10 years). Formerly from Hershey, Lancaster and originally "filthydelphia"
I have stayed at the Starlight, the Qubec and the Quarterdeck
Hello Cappy , Great long video of the "wildwoods " yeah in the 50's Bobby Rydell had a chart stopper for sure! Bigwigs loved wildwood and still come down there to this day!! Even Disney loved it but wanted better I think he had taken things to Disney world and land for that matter from the wildwoods! Keep going there and maybe the other beach that is voted the best beach in NJ for 2024.(Cape May) My buddy past in 08 from ALS (Eric) his family spread his ashes on the jeddys at Carneys bar..( across from the beach)❤. Only the Good die young !! As Billy Joel song it..😊 you captured not only a place to video that speaks mounds but to all that can't get there anymore. 😢 weather by not having the funds or just old age or that only can see by a computer, tablet or phone 😊 you will get alot more subscribers And views for sure. Take care and thank you for making it possible for the many people that can't go but enjoy this and many other places you visit. God bless !!
Always, ALWAYS vacationed this spot with the family back then, and especially was there more times for the Firemen's Convention (tons of family members in the fire department then), but anyway, hadn't been there in like 20 years now. Would really hate to see what's become of the area, but wouldn't mind trying to re-hatch the nostalgic past and still enjoy it.
Thanks for the cool video! I enjoyed your ride 😊
Yes I stayed at the Crusader. Drank a lot don’t remember a lot. Lol😂
Always enjoy staying in the Crest
Used to spend Memorial Day weekends down in Wildwood Crest and drive down to Wildwood for the clubs. I remember the flyers at gas stations of the women that used to disappear down there. Not a place to walk around drunk at night, too many weirdos from Philly. The Stardust was one of the few clubs that had underage nights. Wildwood and the Crest are cemeteries in the off-season.
Motel = Motor + Hotel
Went to wildwood almost every summer from 86 to 2005. The best part was the quirky motels. I'm from Baltimore but we always preferred wildwood over ocean city Maryland. The boardwalk is way better and more rides
Kept me entertained while working. Thanks.
lOVED THE VIDEO! Next time bring Cheryl. AL& P's is open for great steaks hoagies and fries On New Jersey Ave
I love this video! You doing amazing videos. So many memories from Wildwood. Greetings from Slovakia 🇸🇰

My family owns a vacation house in wildwood and I during the off season I go down there on weekends.
The Moreys also own some of the hotels you’ve shown. Port Royal Pan America Starlux Blue Palms and a few others.
I loved your trip around town!! Have a great day
I go to the nassau every year and walk that same wood bridge. unreal seeing it online. since i was 12, im 31 now i bring my wife haha
Shoulda packed a baloney hoagie for your ride ! Enjoyed your video very much, as child in 60s wildwood was heaven. Stayed at Kelley's on 16th street, great times. Stayed at Doo Wop in 90s in crest. Much has changed and new generations making memories.
Bobby Darin sang splash splash and died in 1973 Rydell was a Philly boy and died in 2022
Matador was my favorite back in the 80s. Ever summer for a week in August. Then found it cheaper to rent a house in sea isle city for 2 weeks. Lol good old days!!
I remember carrying my sister piggyback around the beach in our swimsuits. It was fun!
The difference is that the entrance to each motel room is on the outside of the building. In a hotel the entrance to the room is inside the building!
I like the visit.❤
We used to stay at the Sea Rose motel in North Wildwood and a place called the Suitcase. Lol. The Wildwoods must have widest beaches anywhere. Watch the tram car please!!!
Hey PHILLY CAPTAIN, I enjoyed your Part 2 Wildwood, NJ video and all the great sites along the way...Very exciting and great weather for you that day..OK later on & TOODLES..
I heard the PA accent and mediately. When you think about Martin Luther King and the motel, remember something. These places were not always the Havens for junkies and hookers they have become. This is where families stayed originally, traveling salesman and other businessman, when the car became popular, people stayed at motels and motor inns. We didn’t have 20 story Sheratons and 40 story Marriotts. All we had were motels and everyone stayed there. It’s weird middle-class America state. You did have some bigger hotels, but they were confined usually two resorts are big cities. Those dives up and down the route one Corredor with normal stopping points on people traveling cross-country or cross state.
You will not be able to park anywhere in a couple of months. The lack of parking "Down the Shore" is stunning in the summertime. Unless you own a house with a driveway, it is rough parking in the summer.
Yo Cuz ! My 3 favorite weekends in Wildwood... Irish weekend Polish weekend 50's weekend.. The dunk machine clown was the best ! These candy asses today could never handle him.
Great video Cap!
You just passed the Starlux. Classic place
Loved this video!
Hotels rooms face in , Motels rooms face out
The difference between Motels and Hotels, so I have been told, is that a Motel's room doors face outward and Hotels face inward. Also Hotels typically provided more services. Motels were focused on motorists and other transient guests whle Hotels were intended for longer staying travellers.
Enjoyed video. Maybe you could include the DooWap Motels of Wildwood in a future video. Thanks
There used to be one called the fountain
great video, truly wow lots of motels!i like it a lot!
Thanks CAPTAIN! Haven't been there in years they tore down Luray my favorite hotel and built condos.
The difference between a hotel and a motel is a motel is the combined version of motor hotels back in the late 40’s and early 50’s
fantasic
Atleast they're saving some of the classic Motells in Wildwood instead of demolishing them like in Myrtle Beach.
Great job cap
love the music clip that's a real jem
Hey i really like ur channel i lived at the oxford circle, & went to St Martins Catholic School. You are so knowledgeable of the philly history! Kerp up.the awesome channel. I cant afford a subscribe but i do follow!🙂
I use to Go there a lot when I was in my 30s
They already track your speed with EZ Pass lol like 6 months ago I got on at Bensalem and got off at KOP at like 11pm and was doing 90 the entire way. 10 days later I got a ticket in the mail. They can still do the same with the tickets you take, they have a time stamp on them for a reason and cameras in the tolls
Great video
Stardust was closed since 2018. It was demolished a week or so ago.

Today you’re taking a life chance sleeping in one of those bed bug havens. Nice clip, very amusing.
The castle also had lazer tag
I always stay at crusaders I’m staying there next Friday
Its Bobby Rydel ..we stayed at the Nassau inn.i highly recommend it. Clean and they have good packages spring and fall weekends.During the summer kinda expensive.
the ladies room at the Stardust was the place to be. if you couldn't get lucky there just give up on life.
I like Wildwood but spent my summers growing up in Cape May we go over to Wildwood for the rides on the boardwalk?
1608 ocean ave...849k
They just demolished the Stardust last week
Motel usually have 2-3 floors Hotels have several floors
The manure smell was coming from the Day's Inn hotel! We checked it out once and it was awful.
When did you do this video of Wildwood
You didn't see the Ocean Sands Motel?🤔🤔🤔

Hello captain the difference from motel and hotel is this :Location: Motels are generally located along major highways. While some are relatively isolated, others are located close to other businesses that cater to travelers, including restaurants, service stations, and convenience stores. Hotels, on the other hand, are usually located in city centers or near airports.
